Postgame Thoughts... Virginia (ACC T)

hall of fame coach Jim Boeheim thought he was better option. Sorry.
Ohhh you mean that same coach that after each game you all are calling for his head and his job?!?! Gotcha

If you watch the replay of Beekman's shot it was Guerrier who was ball watching instead of knowing Beekman was behind him wide open. I doubt Quincy could have closed the space between he and Beekman - too far away to challange to make Beekman flinch. Great game, proud of this team. They were very, very good today deserving a berth in the NCAA tournament.
Agree and what’s easy to forget UVA didn’t need a 3 pointer to beat us- a foul shot, a layup or a tip in would have done it. Quincy being our best rebounder was probably fixated on preventing Huff etc from getting the ball, a rebound underneath the basket. UVA taking a 3 was an extremely poor percentage shot when the game is tied, Beekman taking it even lowered the chances. If UVA had lost there would have been lots of talk about their strategy even attempting a 3 instead of driving or taking a short pull up.

Everyone plays zone baseline inbounds. Not sideline. It wouldn’t happen only because we don’t do it. Huge difference between inbound plays under the basket and sideline. Watching man and ball is a completely different challengs under the basket. My point is not that it would happen, but it would have been effective.

Everyone plays zone baseline ?

Defending a baseline inbounds under their own basket. Clear enough. The comment was that everyone plays zone on an inbounds play. Silly.

Ok. We each misread. It is very common to play zone an an inbounds pass under the basket. I thought you were making a general statement about inbounds plays. What you were talking about is Boeheim. I never said it was like that he would do it. I said it would have likely worked much better. Obviously there are probabilities involved in everything. It was probably a 30% chance the kid hits that 3. I am just saying young people don’t adapt in the floor and they would have been totally flummoxed.

That’s not fair, Q was in charge with checking Huff that possession, he goes out towards Beekman then Huff has an easy ally oop.

The defense was fine, Virginia is a great team and made a great play and we had them until literally the very last second.

We simply missed too many good shots. Also if Edwards had played more i believe we win going away. Their center dominated Gumby and must have tipped back half a dozen or more offensive rebounds for them. Wish we would have gone with Jesse Marek Q Bras more.

He killed us today. He played weak and timid IMO outside of one stretch where he drove on Hauser. And that back door pass to Bras’s defender will give me nightmares
14 and 10 while clearly not 100%. Leading rebounder. Second leading scorer.

Kid is a warrior.

Edwards missed 3 lay ups. If he makes 2 of those he would have stayed in the game. They lost on a buzzer beater to the no.1 seed and you criticize the lineup? Give your armchair coaching a break.

Im actually standing up. As to the armchair coaching its fun i think ill keep at it.

It's your prerogative to keep tearing down Boeheim. Seems rather silly in this instance.

This Virginia team does not handle pressure well. I wish JB would have gone to the press a little earlier. Might have been able to get a lead which changes everything the last couple minutes. But we played well. It's one of those games where 1 or 2 more plays work out and we win. You think about every missed layup, free throw, etc.

Just reporting what I saw. Quincy did not know Beekman was behind him and when the pass was thrown and Q turned around and realized what was about to happen it was too late, that's why bees and all of those watching Q walk off the court saw him crying - that must have been emotionally very tough on him.

He spoke on why he was crying, that wasn’t it. Did you see him guarding Huff?

I just looked at the play again for maybe the 10th time. Richmond screwed up. Hauser passes the ball to Clark and Kadary takes an ill-fated 2 steps out and lets Clark drive by him, forcing Dolezaj to come out from guarding Huff and forcing Quincy to come inside to guard Huff, leaving Beekman wide open. Game over.

Quincy was on Beekman until he saw Marek leaving Huff to pick up a driving Clark.

Q was exactly where he was supposed to be on that rotation. Merek was sprinting up to ball side high post once Clarke slipped Kadary. Griffin was the ball side and had a shooter on his wing. The weak side is responsible for rotating to the rim. Q's play was textbook, as was his position on Huff.

Yeah it was 100% on Richmond. Maybe partially on Buddy too because you simply can't let a guard drive into the middle of the zone. With it being a tie game, Quincy had to drop down and take away Huff once Dolezaj stepped up. If he didn't, it was game over in a much easier fashion.

Sorry man, you were posting as I was typing. Agree 100%

You need to watch it again because you didn’t see what you’re describing because it didn’t happen. You want Q on the shooter, but who guards Huff in position?

His rotation was perfect and did exactly what he was supposed to do. Speculating he was distraught that his mistake made him emotional when he gave the reasons why he was emotional is reckless at best.

Look at this picture, maybe it can help.
