Prepare ourselves we must

This was a great OMD song in the 80s.

I won’t cry. I won’t waste one single tear.

Obviously Millhouse in the Dark

Or

Orchestral Movements in the Dark

I can never remember

I think we should give Greg a second chance.

This board is mandated by law to go through a "who's the next Head Coach gonna be?" every 3-4 years, even if we love the coach we have. Just make fun of the people who take it seriously and throw out dumb names, it'll be fun.

This is the Scott Shafer playbook. No thank you. IF he leaves, you go find the next hot shot coach. Pitt has done it 4-5x over past 20 years and have never fell off the earth. They haven't been knocking down the door for championships but haven't been us either.

I don't think you just go get any hot shot coach. I think it has to be a coach who runs a similar system so that you can plug and play the guys you already have in place.

One coach I watch and will watch with interest this off season is Charlie Strong. His offensive coordinator is Sterlin Gilbert who is a Babers disciple and a very good OC/QB coach. I've been intrigued by this combo of smashmouth D-Head Coach paired with a Babers offense.

Gilbert came from the Texas HS ranks and OC'd for Babers at Eastern Illinois and BG. Then ran Tulsa with Montgomery before hooking up with Strong at Texas and now USF.

His ppg game after leaving HCDB
2015 - Tulsa - 34
2016 - Texas - 32
2017 - USF - 38
2018 - USF - 36

I wouldn't want this guy as a HC but Strong is certainly a very good Head Coach and I find it interesting to see a Defensive HC paired with a Babers offense.

The hires of Doug Marrone and Dino should be a wake up call to this athletic department. Don't ever hire a defensive-minded coach to work in the dome ever again.

We only need one thing from our next head coach:

An offensive mind who has gotten the job done elsewhere, and if at all possible, has a lot of experience working offensive lineman.

That's it. Always do this

Babers keeps many of his thoughts close to the vest. What he and his wife want to do is unknown to most if not all of us. My feeling is if SU/Wildhack/BOT are doing all they can and have shown Babers what improvements they are making now and soon and Dino likes that direction, SU is in very good shape.

That said, If Dino and his bride feel like one more move is their final move and he gets set financially for life because of it, then there isn't much SU can do because the heart wants what the heart wants.

I'm hoping along the lines of what CuseLegecy said and that is that Babers wants to build a legecy on the Hill and that he and his wife truly enjoy living in upstate NY.

First of all im going on record that JW will retain Dino with one exception.
If USC offers he is gone. So assuming Dino takes his show to the city of Angels who does JW turn to. One coach that i like for our program would be Matt Canada from Maryland. I think that he is an offensive genius who could convince Tommy and our key offensive talent to stay. I have watched a few of his interviews since the Maryland mess unfolded and he has handled himself extremely well. He is 46 in his prime would bring Beatty a great recruiter with him. I really like him. As to other candidates there are many. The bottom line is that in the event Dino heads to LA we need to hire an offensive minded coach that can take our current roster and roll. My money is on Dino being here for a very long time. Either way i trust that JW will get it right.
Canada has burned bridges at every stop. Not well liked in the industry.

Somebody please explain why USC is so special in the eyes of HCDB.
Bigger name and tradition, national recruiting base, more resources, more esteem, and perhaps most importantly more money. Oh just a few things off the top of my head.

We’re talking about USC, man.

Syracuse gets ranked for the first time in 17 years and immediately everyone thinks Babers is going to leave. You guys need to relax and enjoy the ride.
We are a psychologically sensitive, and pretty shell shocked, fan base. If you had to live daily through what we’ve had to the last 17 years, you’d understand better. You’re spoiled, in the best of ways.

This. If SU coming off a horrible stretch of seasons can attract and hire Babers over Missouri at this point with the Stadium news, The ACC Network, and a 19 ranking we are going to be in excellent shape. This board is awesome and i love post that create thought and debate. It cracks me up when posters have an issue with a pst like this. Almost like by posting that Dino might leave or that he is at the top of Marylands list is going to cause him to leave which of course is ridiculous.
Syracuse in spite of what many have posted does have the financial resources to retain Dino. Paying him 4 million and raising the staffs budget by 1.5 to 2 is a drop in the bucket for SU.
The question is do they want to go there, not can they. My gut says that 4 million will be offered. My gut also says that Dino and his family love the West Coast so if USC offers he will take it. Central NY is wonderful but it is a world away from his roots. If Dino leaves that will be the reason. Not money, or facilities, or fannies in the stands but home. My gut tells me he stays as i think that USC either retains Helton or goes in a different direction than Dino. I dont see any other program that he would leave for. Certainly not Maryland.

All the reasons the previous poster mentioned, and he/she left out the most important reason it's special...he grew up in SoCal. Has family ties there. He was born in Hawaii, and played his CFB there, but he's a Southern California guy.

I hate to speak well of Coyle, after the way he treated SU, but. . .

He hired Babers.
He gave him a 6-year deal.
He back-loaded the contract--a provision that Babers himself has mentioned publicly.

Which is not to say that there won't be suitors, nor that Dino might not be interested in the right offer. But his leaving is far from a slam dunk.
I don't get the Coyle venom. He did a lot of good stuff in a short window here and left for what is undoubtedly a better job.

It's how he left. And the fact that he had one foot out the door almost from his first day on the job at SU.

Better job?! We are way better than Minny in basketball. They couldn’t hold our jock. We even have a better football projectory as long as Babers stays.

If he’s not set for life from a financial perspective right now, he has a moron for a financial advisor.
