*Preseason Coaches Poll released - SU #5

Yikes...BE led by Uconn at 4; 'Cuse at 5 have six (6) teams in top 25...ACC has NC at 1 and Duke at 6...and......Cuse at 5 and Pitt at 11.

Now we know why we are on way to ACC...strengthen their bball conference...whew, and I thought they had a tough bball conference...

Initial thoughts…I think Vandy and Kansas are a little overranked where they are. Sooner or later, Michigan has to actually show something on the court and not lose 15 games a year. I like Baylor this year, I see them as a top 5-10 team all season. Not to beat a dead horse, but how does St. John’s get 11 votes? Again, their roster will be comprised of 6 walk-ons and the rest will be true freshmen and they play a murderous schedule. Does anyone think that’s a top 25ish team? Overall though, this poll is probably about what everyone expected.

I agree they have lots of talent, and Kansas and Texas look like they will not be their normal selves

Quincy Miller is going to be a beast

Kansas really is not impressing anyone so far and rightfully so

I've said this before, I'm not buying the OSU hype. They have the best big man, but lost a LOT... to replace with two freshmen... Will run through the B10 but we'll see how they play against real teams

Louisville should be higher than Vandy, and Pitt higher than Florida

Sorry I'm going through this list and commenting haha, but Kansas might not win 25 games this season for the first time in a while

Lastly, looks like 6 contenders (top 6) then a bunch of teams chasing

Syracuse - #5
Syracuse 2nd string - #11
HAHA, I agree, maybe not #11, but that unit would at least get votes, maybe sneak into a 20-something spot

If St. Johns is getting votes, our second unit would surely get votes. That team has no one left, and 3 of their top recruits are ineligible. Our second unit could beat a lot of those teams listed as getting votes.

Fearless prediction: Baylor will be out of the top-25 come February 1

Baylor's front line will be intimidating. Their 3-5 guys will have a wingspan of over 22 feet collectively, and will be able to jump out of the gym respectively. But who's going to score for them? The only guard of consequence they have coming back is A.J. Walton and he's an inconsistent shooter who is highly prone to turnovers.

I love the frontcourt. Jones-Jones-Miller-Acy... it's an impressive group. But I just don't know who's going to provide the backcourt punch for them. I think they'll be an NCAA Tournament team, health and suspensions considering, but I'm having a hard time envisioning them as a top-10 team.

This poll clearly shows that the BE is currently stronger then the ACC. There are 6 BE teams in the Top 25 and only 2 from the ACC. However, when Pitt and SU move, the two conferences will be equal - 4 and 4 based on today's ranking. Further, the ACC four will be stronger the BE four.

This poll demonstrates that the move of Pitt and SU to the ACC changes the balance of power in college basketball in America

Apropos of nothing, this would be an awesome stat - how far down a 94 foot court could your scholarship players reach using their wingspan fingertips to fingertips?

That would be very interesting. I kind of wish these kinds of measurements were taken with the roster of each team. I think length has become a noteworthy vital.

Kinda like Baylor last year... Do I remember seeing them reach a #10 ranking or #8 somewhere in there before they fell off the face of the earth?

That sounds about right. I think they peaked in the top-10 early in the year if they didn't start out there. But after a soft early season schedule, they started losing virtually every game of consequence they had until it was too late.

I think they were ranked #10 then lost to a team like Gonzaga? Perry Jones was supposed to be LeBron James but didn't put them on his back. Now they have another elite scorer in Miller... some good athletes on that team.

I disagree with you on this one. In college basketball, one truly elite college player can make you one of the best teams. Sullinger was fantastic last year and will likely be even better now. He really opens things up for the pieces at OSU, which get great looks from the outside. Every year a team makes a run and has an awesome year on the back of one player. Thus, they deserve the hype because they will have a dominant player.

Plus, the pieces around him are pretty solid.
