Let the record show that Syracuse is getting a jump on this 2014 class prospect but it will likely NOT translate into a committment from him before May of 2013.
I realize that it is said in jest (and in response to the recent questioning of claims made last year that SU was getting an "early jump" on 2013 recruits, as evidenced by the fact that so many in our 2012 class had verballed by the end of summer that year), but it's also not crazy to think that SU could have a QB prospect in the 2014 class give a verbal commitment by May of 2013.
In fact, if you look at ESPN's list of top QBs for 2013, 14 of the 39 "pro-style" QBs have already given verbal commitments, including to schools like:
Penn State #1 ranked pro-style QB,
Louisville #20 ranked pro-style QB,
Virginia #29 ranked pro-style QB, and
Cinci #37 ranked pro-style QB.
And of the list of top "dual-threat" QBs for 2013, 11 of the 26 have already given verbal commitments, including:
Northwestern #3 ranked dual-threat QB,
Vandy #15 ranked dual-threat QB,
Colorado #16 ranked dual-threat QB, and
Maryland #22 ranked dual-threat QB.
So, in all, 38% of ESPN's top ranked 2013 QBs have already given verbal commitments. Not exactly a rare occurance, IMO.
