QB Justin Lamson transferring to Stanford

The writing on these si blogs makes my head hurt. They need some major proof reading
Yup, I didn’t pay attention in Week 0 and after reading that I needed to double check ESPN to find out who really won the Hawaii-Vandy game. Yeesh.

Profreeding is a lst arrt.

I think Lamson is going to end up being a stud but I wouldn't have done anything differently. Really sucks that he got hurt last year. Never know what happens if he stepped in for Shrader.

If you read Sam's article closely, it is revealed that the SU staff told Lamson he was number 3 after spring.

"Lamson jousted with Del Rio-Wilson for backup consideration in spring practice, but the incumbent kept the favor of Syracuse’s coaching staff."

We must be in good shape with CDRW.
Don’t think that meant he was 3 at Cuse. Pretty sure that statement meant Shrader was the incumbent that kept favor. As later in the article they stated he had an opportunity to compete for the starting spot at Stanford.

Hopefully he wins the job, if he is the starter Friday night I’ll be watching that game start to finish. Very interested to see him play, was always high on him.

Exactly. Incumbent is referring to Shrader. What the pecking order was behind Shrader was never identified anywhere public.

Nah the sentence is pretty clear and referring to Wilson as the incumbent backup. He was the #2 in 2022 and heading into spring. Lamson was competing for the backup spot and lost to the incumbent.

Reading it the way you did is the way I initially read it as well but after I read it again and within the context of the following statement I don’t think that was what was meant. Who knows.

Yeah it’s definitely not clear but maybe he did mean CDRW as incumbent. Who knows. It would be the first time that was identified publically if so.

Also Incumbent is a very unusual term to use referring to a backup.

Based on what i was told he wanted a shot to start. Maybe he wasn't aware that he was actually in 3rd position but i dont think so.

Plus backup positions are not set in stone in the Spring.

Lamson returned as a full-practice participant after almost a year of rehabilitation, but starter Garrett Shrader had led the Orange to their first bowl game in four seasons. Lamson jousted with Del Rio-Wilson for backup consideration in spring practice, but the incumbent kept the favor of Syracuse’s coaching staff.

As a result, Lamson faced a tough decision. Sit another year on the sidelines or find a place where he could compete for a starting job? After some deliberation, he chose the transfer portal.

If the writer meant Shrader (the incumbent starter) then he poorly worded the sentence. Either way though, the article says Lamson transferred because he didn't want to sit again. But if you're the #2 QB as a redshirt soph that's an incredibly dumb move because chances are you're going to play; and you're not even transferring to a situation where you're the #1. Conclusion, he transferred because he was the #3.

The option to go Stanford might be part of his reason.

Wonder why there was all the secrecy about who was going to be the starting QB. Did Troy Taylor think that the surprise was going to tip the outcome to a Stanford victory?

Regardless, I'm about 50/50 with 'wish him well' and 'don't genuinely care'.

Lamson is the back up to a class of 2022 kid from Georgia. I guess you never know and you usually need more than one QB. Kid played well in the opener versus Hawaii.
