Class of 2021 QB Kaidon Salter (TX) Portal to Colorado

Anyone else gradually talking themselves into Salter as the answer? I am and it’s addictive.
Not yet. Holding out hope that there is still a QB that has yet to enter portal that is being referred to in this thread. Salter IMO is too much of a shift from the type of QB that McCord is. Worry that that type of shift is being underestimated by this staff.

At his best, he was similar to McCord. Feel like his ability to run was exacerbated by a lesser Liberty team, but he really wants to spread it around from the pocket

We do not have the luxury of holding out and hoping the next Kyle McCord enters the portal. It’s not going to happen. We have some very nice options. I prefer Saltar because he has proven he can be extremely productive at this level and he has the tools to be even better.

That’s not at all what I am saying. I’m not that naive.

If you watch Salter’s game it is very different than McCords. It’s going to require a shift offensively if he replaces McCord. Maybe that’s ok but when you have as much success as this offense did this season, that’s a tough decision imo.

In CFB you constantly need to shift your offense and even more so now with the portal.

It seemed like Fran wanted Kyle to run more. Maybe Fran prefers a dual threat just as long as he’s actually a threat passing. This kid can sling it. He wasn’t a top 50 out of HS because he didn’t have an arm or the physical attributes similar to Kyle. If we were recruiting him based off his 2023 stats i think people would be drooling all over him. Collins would be a luxury if we could take 2 but something about these unproven portal QB’s that i don’t like.

Yet both Brown and Nixon want this guy to run the offense. It doesn't seem like a tough decision for those making the decision in this situation. I mean Nixon knows offense. He knows what he wants to run. Nixon I guarantee has watched his film. Really people are letting "perfection " get in the way of "really good and can be even better ".

It really doesn’t have to shift that much. The kid can throw, he has 5,700 yards passing in his career. The only thing you’d be adding (not changing) is a QB who can also run. So you’re adding to the offense.

We need to land a QB first before we start hand wringing about everything else though.

Fran absolutely wanted McCord to run more.

I don't care if he can run or not. I wouldn't take him because he just isn't accurate with the football. He had under 60% completion percentage for his career and even in his productive year, he was 61%. That isn't good I need my QB to be better than that (if we are shopping). His 3rd season looks more like his 1st season leading me to believe the 2nd season was a one-off, not the norm. I would pass based on those factors and I assume Fran can do better. I wouldn't mind if he went to Colorado.

Bingo. The group above disagreeing with my point about the difference between McCord and Salter has less to do with running ability and more to do with touch, finesse and ACCURACY.

What was McCord 64% ?

I admit that’s a little less than idea and i’m not sure if college stats go that deep but i’d be interested to see what his avg yards per pass was? I have a feeling it wasn’t like Kyle where we used the pass game as an extension of our offense. Was he asked to do that at Liberty or did they push the ball down the field? I know Chadwell ran a somewhat funky offense so i really don’t know? It seems Fran and Nixon are confident.

People forget Nixon ran a Baylor offense to 11-1, with a mobile QB.
I think Nixon can run lot of different offensive sets depending on personal and situations.
