QB

A couple thoughts:

1. Del Rio certainly can throw a decent ball and definitely some drops didnt help. His long ball to Hatcher was really nice.
2. Lets not put the Clemson loss on Garrett. Thats a bad look. The play calling second half Clemson boarded mind boggling against the fastest and most athletic defense we will see all year. Garrett also was beat up by games end and it would not surprise me if he carried that into today.
3. Garret definitely with the bad throw to start today but then marched us down for a score. Garrett did not run the entire first half but for one scramble. He tried playing hurt today and Dino made the right call at halftime.
4. Let Garret heal. Play Del Rio next week.
5. For those feeling their oats Garret has statistically been one of the best QBs in the country this year and when fully healthy is very effective. He helped get us to 6 and 0 and people are over reacting because we lost at Clemson and against the Irish? We all knew ND was going to give us a healthy dose of running today and their big ass linemen helped their Rbs get to second level. When Garrett is fully healthy he starts again. Also Garrett has run the ball extremely effectively. Not sure why suddenly Del Rio is better there.
6. DelRio certainly has some good elements and brings a similar pass/run pairing to the offense we like. Definitely has some quick twitch. WE all need to see more than a half of football to assess him.

Totally disagree, I saw no great improvement with CDW, he does look talented but GS knows the offense better and is just as athletic. If Shrader has been hurt the past game or so that could be a reason for his downtrend in productivity. Of course it does depend on the injury. Either way SU has a good back up to go with.
I thought CDR threw a better deep ball and may look to spread the ball around better. If Shrader is 100% I think he starts. If not, I'm good with CDR. This isn't a Tucker to Allen drop off. The difference between the two looks much closer. I think the coaches think so too. Anytime CDR has come in this year they haven't hesitated to cut him loose. Even when he was only coming in for one play, a typical hand off scenario, they called pass plays for him.

This really is 2018 all over again

Carlos played better than Devito did against ND.

@ Pitt isn't an easy game.

Last year we lost a lot of heartbreakers with Garrett Shrader and then let him play badly hurt and we got blown out every game rest of the way. We simply can't do that again playing him injured cost us Clemson and ND.

Yup.

He has to be healthy and a running threat to be effective. That’s his whole game! He’s one of the best running QBs in the country.

He’s gotten better but still a very shaky passer….but his running combined with Tucker’s running can lead to some good opportunities in the passing game.

Count me on Wilson’s train.

Say what you will. I do not care if im dragged for this. I knew it was going to be “that game” after play 1’s pick 6. That can never ever happen. Ever.

Should be an open battle for QB starting tomorrow. I will NOT forget that we have not been to a bowl in years. Nothing has been earned.

I'm not sure he has gotten better. I thought Wake and FSU last year was better than anything we've seen this season from him since the Uconn/Louisville games.

The D honestly handed us the Clemson game and Shrader blew it. Then he throws a pick 6 first play today. I have seen enough if he plays late in the season because CDRW falters that is fine.

Yeah I like having a linebacker at QB look at the Bills and Eagles and their QBs but CRDW is a big kid that is fast and immediately looked way smarter he didn't take any delay of games when he switched the plays he switched to a handoff to Sean perfect pulls on the read option just a guy clearly processing the game quicker even though he has way less experience. Good kid and hes tough but I am sure Jacobian Morgan is a nice kid too and I never want to see him starting for us we need to do better.

Yeah. Some are taking it like it’s crapping on Shrader but it’s more…..what’s not to like about CRDW based on all we’ve seen so far?

He’s throwing lasers that are pretty much all on the money. He’s quick and mobile with decent size, like you said a great pull on the read option, changing the play on the TD.

The only real negative play was a batted ball that unluckily popped 30 yards up into the air.

I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t be Sky high on his prospects? What’s not to like?

This is nonsensical. The guy is a huge part of why we were 6-0. If he’s not healthy, fine. But if he is it’s 100% his job. That’s it.
Your failsafe play is nonsensical.

There are things CDRW can do that GS can’t. That might be the difference between winning and losing some of these games down the stretch. I still prefer GS as a runner, which is why I wouldn’t be opposed to playing both QBs.

The best QB should play. Period.

Yup. Not beyond the realm that CDRW, as a transfer, has improved greatly over the last few months too as he’s gained experience in the program and in the offense?

Maybe he wasn’t the best option to start two months ago, but maybe he is now? It’s certainly gotta be a possibility?

I sure as heck don’t want a repeat of last year with a hobbled Shrader leading to a punchless offense down the stretch of the season.

i’ll put it simply. We’re not just aiming for a bowl game anymore.

The goals of this season changed significantly after the UVA win.

Less than 9 wins is disappointing

Our wideouts are underwhelming and need a game managing QB.

Shrader’s banged up and forcing throws that are costing us. How much are they costing us is up for debate.

Wilson’s play is not a drop off right now. You play for the better bowl. Go with the hot hand until Shrader cant be kept on the sideline anymore

Exactly.

Dungey ran and improvised better than Tommy.

So far, not sure about here.

And I love Shrader.
Shrader is elite at running when he’s got a head of steam, and extremely difficult to bring down. He can save plays and wreak havoc when he’s healthy obviously.

But yeah, Wilson had some nice runs too. And he’s not small like Tommy and seems to have good awareness on when to get out of the pocket.

I’m highly encouraged on what I’ve seen.

Shrader should not be playing if he’s running ability is compromised. End of story. He’s not a pocket passer who can win a game with his arm and accuracy.

CDRW will make some inexperience mistakes. And he might leave the pocket too early sometimes… but that’s still better than a completely neutered offense.

He has an arm. He has wheels. Our wide outs don’t look like Helen Keller with him. Im with you

Nothing like a good ole’ QB controversy. Every week we don’t win, the maxim, “the most popular guy on the team is the back up QB” will be a discussion topic
