Quincy Guerrier transferring to Oregon

I think QG will be interesting to follow at Oregon. I think as a prospect in terms of where he sits - he is similar to where Tyus was his sophomore year in both he had good numbers but also was missing key pieces to his game that would showcase how he adds value in the NBA. Tyus was a ways away at the end of his soph year and then while being productive his Jr year he didn't showcase how he could be a true 2G at the next level more of a very poor man's Marcus Smart (and no offense to Tyus at all with that). I think if your QG you are hoping that a promise at Oregon helps you showcase it. When you look around- it's the GLeague and NBA roster development not extra years in college making these kids better. All the best to Q but I think it will take more than a change.

Nothing against Q who by all accounts is a great kid, player and teamate but i like Benny and Cole better as our starting forwards than Benny and Q.
Benny is an amazing talent. Cole is as good if not better shooter than Buddy. If Joe can regain his half court range i just dont see teams stopping us.
Cole Buddy Joe Benny. All elite shooters. This will most likely be the best pure shooting team JB has ever had. Should be fun.

Hopefully he gets a shot to showcase a little at the Jordan game vs the joke that was the Iverson game.

We were top 30 in 2019.

That team wasn’t ranked from January till the tournament and with one more win they would have been a 7 seed.
2019 was such a mediocre team and we were one win from a 7 seed.
No way I am giving you 7.5.
Final offer I it’s 7 is a draw and 6 or better you win or 8 or worse and I win.

Either way I got the bet with SUskibum

I tend to agree with you. If JB is still the coach and we’re still the program so many fans and posters on this board believe we are then being a 7 seed in the tournament really isn’t much of a bar to clear. That’s the disconnect for me when I read some posts.

Personally, I hope next years team is good and all the roster turnover works out but as excited as everyone is about the shooting I don’t see many creators or guys that can put pressure on a defense with the bounce. And there aren’t many teams with so few guys that can beat their man off the dribble who are all that good.

Dasher I will say is totally fair in that he isn’t a coach before program poster.

My offer is basically I don’t believe we will be a top 25 team next year going into the tournament.
I won’t give him 3 extra spots as the poll isn’t top 28.

Then you should take Alsacs bet. The issue isn't whether 7 is a high bar. The issue is what is the top of our range? I am not willing to bet that we will do the best we can do. We haven't been a 7 seed in a long time.

Alsacs and I would be on the same side. I think for a program of our stature, and if JB is still the coach deep in his 70’s that he was when he was younger, a 7 seed at minimum should be a given most years.

And I agree with Alsacs that you’re a fair poster. Which is why the bigger takeaway for me is that a fair poster says he’s optimistic about our group next year but isn’t confident we can be a 7 seed. Is that who we are now? Because that feels like quite a fall. It wasn’t long ago that offseason excitement about our guys meant a lot higher than a 7 seed.

He’s on my side. Basically he saying if you think we’re top 25 which is what I have been saying I don’t see next year then you shouldn’t need 7 seed protection.
I get trying to negotiate as great as you can but as I told you I won’t go 7.5 because I don’t consider seven seed a great season unless we are the top 7 seed then we’d be the 25th best team.

that’s just another narrative. You could count on less than one hand the number of posters who put JB ahead of the program. Someone defending something about JB doesn’t say who cares if we lose. It’s possible to be/do both.

I love our team next year. I fear our schedule. 6 rough OOC games, And 10 road ACC games. Plus, we haven't been a 7 seed in quite a while. 7 1/2 is more than fair.

Nothing bad about losing games to top teams. The committee usually rewards teams that schedules tough in the OOC. The conference schedule is also very favorable for us next year. So I expect better than an 8 seed. Anything less than that would be disappointing. This is the team JB wanted so he better win with them.

And the 2019 team was not good. Amongst the worst offensive teams we ever had. That seasons offense made my eyes bleed.

Honest question is my line 6.5 unfair?
I even said I will consider a 7 seed a draw.
I won’t give him 7 seed.
I would give top 25 on the S-Curve and include the top 7 seed.

Yes it was because if he doesn’t take the bet then he really doesn’t have an opinion much different than yours and he’s trying to sell to fans that we should be happy if we are an 8 seed next year. Fluck that.

I see it where he is smart and is trying to negotiate as good as he can.
I don’t consider a 7 seed next year a good season as it will basically just be like 2019 with one more win.

I see us as a 19-12 team which is what I have been saying. That would get us into the tournament but not as a high seed.

They reward you with getting in to the tournament. They don't reward you with higher seeds.

Excuse me. I'm not trying to sell anyone anything. I don't really care what you are anyone else thinks. I think we are going to be good and exciting. But that doesn't mean I'm willing to make a dumb bet. Our disagreement is over 6 1/2 vs 7 1/2. All I hear is how bad we are going to be. Well, top 30 isn't all that good. 7 1/2 is very fair.

We lost 9 games in 2009 and 2013 and were a 3/4 seed because we played tough schedules both seasons and got good seeds because we won our fair share of tough games. We could go 8-3/13-7 and get a good seed if we beat good teams.

UNC had 10 losses in 2018 and got a 2 seed in the tournament.
Virginia had 7 losses in 2017 and were a 1 seed.

Losses don’t really affect you in getting a good seed if you actually beat good teams.
Playing a hard schedule actually gives you the benefit of the doubt in seeding if you actually win some.

We could go 7-4 in the nonconference and that wouldn’t harm us getting a good seed.
