RB Jawhar Jordan in the transfer portal

I wonder if he really wanted to play RB and the staff wanted him to move to WR? If he is going to stay at RB, I hope he really hits the weight room hard or he is going to spend a lot of time rehabilitating injuries.

ODE TO JAWHAR

I covered and posted about Jawhar from the moment he committed to us. From his games in Chandler, AZ at Hamilton to his grade problems that he had to take time to correct to get him in here. The 4.37 speed was what caught my eye on his junior and senior year tape.

I have not seen a more elusive back, albeit small - a detriment at this level, juke and fake and run at straight line speed away from anyone. I couldn't wait to see him play for us.

Always in the back of my mind was our OL. I thought if he was put in the slot he would be successful and he was to a certain extent. It was the speed factor that had me glued to him – there are not many backs coming to SU lately with his ability to run away from and elude any defender.

But I think I was, to a certain extent, kidding myself to think that a 5' 9” 170 lb. back was going to last long even with his speed. A Joe Morris at 5'7” but carrying 190 lbs. with speed he was not going to be and he did get injured. It hurts to see this happen but perhaps it is in his best interests to play for someone else and one with a very effective offensive line.

Good luck to the staff finding a back like him but with more physical prowess. You don't see many 4.3 backs a bit more muscled with his moves signing with anyone at this level – they just don't come along that often and I think Jawhar arrived at a bad time for him. He, as all great backs do, need a good OL to give them "some room", as someone earlier posted "some space". He didn't have that which is unfortunate otherwise we would have seen many more yards and TD's from him. To achieve more he would have had to spend a good deal of time in the weight room adding muscle and at least 15 - 20 lbs.

In any case it was very exciting for me to watch him and dream about the back with all the right moves that almost was at SU. If we do not see you all the best, Jawhar.

I have no knowledge on this and I might not understand it correctly

is there any chance that he would be transferring because his grades and not being eligible at Syracuse?

I had forget he originally had eligibility issues at the beginning

Bill and JR. Jawhar did not have a problem with grades. Two of his courses did not pass the NCAA clearance, and he took them at a Jr. college online, and came here in January, not a year later. His grades are not a problem. He was doing just fine. Smart kid from a smart family that takes education very seriously. I am pretty sure he was above a 3.0 gpa. His sister is a freshman pre med student at U. of Arizona. I am not going to say too much more but he has been contacted by programs that leave us in the dust. Schools that are consistently top 10 schools. We will see where he ends up, because he has to know he will be playing at those schools. But there is some serious interest out there for him.

The role he was put in this season was hideous. He needs to be placed with the ball in space. There was no space between our guard and tackle. Maybe his next OC will get that figured out.

He went into the season as the #3 RB on the depth chart, and #1 and #2 opted out.

Dino wanted to make him a slot receiver for next season so he can "get the ball in space", but Jordan wants to be an every down "pound the ball between the tackles" RB.

Yeah def wasn’t saying for sure. As stated o said I had no info on it

Sad to see him go really but understand why he would be heading out

It'll be interesting to see what role he plays at whatever school he goes to. If he ends up being the swiss army knife but not every down running back that I had hoped he would be here, I'll be pretty frustrated.

I’d guess USC. Just a guess

The staff was over the moon when they landed him. This is a huge loss.

He was already replaced as the feature rb. If he isn’t happy as a role player he’s free to leave under the current system, what do you want them to do, promise to sit Tucker in favor of him?

seriously, if you want Dino gone so bad, get out your check book.

I could see him being an every down back at some point if he bulked up to take the pounding. He just doesn’t have enough weight to hold up for in that role right now. If he wants to see the field more at this point it would be in the slot or a hybrid role. Any of the big boys will not play him as an everydown RB right now at his current weight no matter what they tell him. Gotta think all the other big boy coaches would tell him the same if he was on their team. I mean he has a pretty clear path to being a every down back at Syracuse IF he gets bigger. I’d imagine an easier path than most schools depth charts at RB anyway. I hope he considers that.

And I’ll add that if he has any aspirations of doing it at the NFL level, some time in the slot working on his receiving skills would be very beneficial for the roll that may be more likely suited for him at that level given his body type.

You have known so much about JJ and seems like a great kid. I hope he gets a great opportunity at a big time program. They don’t make him like that very often and as much as we love our orange, they aren’t very good at this time which is the most critical in his life. Big programs can be detrimental sometimes, but if he is getting the attention like you say, then they are going to use him correctly. Best of luck and wish he was staying

Good for Jawhar and not at all surprising. He has an elite trait. Top 20 teams load up on kids with traits and figure out a way to use them. I'm not saying he would have been the "featured" back here, but he could have played a meaningful role, IMO. We don't have enough speed on this roster.

unless you assume Dino was going to boeheim the kid, how is his leaving “good” for him?

He'll shred PAC defenses. Hate to see him go but wish him well and expect big things. Curious if being so far from home during the last year is as much of a factor as anything? Could see him at USC, Quackers, Udub, or either AZ school

Like most other transfers, I don't think we'll hear much about JJ after he transfers, but he'll go down as a board legend, much like Chance Amie. When we're not good people will say, "oh man, only if we had JJ. We would be so much better." Players who aren't grad transfers only transfer for a couple of reasons. One is grades which don't seem to be a problem here, and the second is they can see there are better players in front of them, and they won't get the chance for much PT. I wish this young man success, but some of you need to take the orange colored glasses off and let him go.

That's a bit of extrapolation from that comment. He shouldn't be the No. 1 RB, and the staff shouldn't be expected to make him No. 1 just to appease him, but that doesn't mean he isn't a huge loss. He has speed that can't be taught and big play potential. The idea of having him and Tucker on the field at the same time was exciting. Given the lack of playmakers we've had over the last 15-20 years, losing him hurts.

Yep.

The idea of Tucker/Jordan/Benson on the field at one time puts a whole lot more speed on the field than we're used to seeing.

never said it wasn’t better to have him on the roster, but what would you suggest they have done to entice him to stay?

kid Is free to leave, there’s zero evidence that they wouldn’t use him in the same way he is going to be used, and SU would probably use him more, than any other place he goes to

Who was that kid from Jersey. Jamere Knox?

You guys are too funny. I would be willing to bet that it we go back to your posts when Jawhar Jordan was being recruited and signed, that you guys where praising him as the next big thing. I think the term that applies to your posts is: Fickle Fans.

By good, I mean that he is getting the type of interest that the OP suggested (who I am not doubting). I have no ill will for Jawhar. Since he was obviously not happy here, it's "good for Jawhar" that he is getting high level attention. No other assumptions made at this end. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

Even if you assume Tucker passed him on the depth chart this is a HUGE loss.
You need guys with this type of speed and moves on your team.
He was lights out at the last spring game and sadly will never know how good he could have been with a real line.
Hope he finds a good home.
