RB Jawhar Jordan in the transfer portal

You guys are too funny. I would be willing to bet that it we go back to your posts when Jawhar Jordan was being recruited and signed, that you guys where praising him as the next big thing. I think the term that applies to your posts is: Fickle Fans.

no one is saying the roster wouldn’t be better without him, but if you are talking every down back Tucker is clearly better. SU is losing a potential role player and there are guys like lutz and pena that can fill that role

never said it wasn’t better to have him on the roster, but what would you suggest they have done to entice him to stay?

kid Is free to leave, there’s zero evidence that they wouldn’t use him in the same way he is going to be used, and SU would probably use him more, than any other place he goes to
I'm not suggesting the staff do anything. The comment was simply that his loss hurts. You're pulling way more from that one line comment than what was said.

You think he only had potential to be a role player? Why? Does a guy need to carry the ball 20+ times a game to be more than a role player?

I don't know exactly what the staff had planned for him, but if he ran the ball 5-10 times per game, caught 5 passes from the slot, on swing passes, or on screens, and returned kicks/punts, that's 15-20 touches per game where he could've had an impact. That's more than a role player.

Physically, he is similar to Tavon Austin, who's best numbers were his senior year. He didn't lead WVU in either recieving yards or rushing yards that year but was explosive doing both. Jordan didn't need to be the number 1 guy at any position to be our most dangerous threat and more than a "role player."

Yeah, let's say between rushes and receptions he averaged like 12 touches a game. Over the season that means the ball is in his hand 144 times.

That's significant. To put that in context, this past season we had one guy with more plays from scrimmage than that. It was Tucker with 145. Taj was a distant second with 59. Crazy enough, Lutz was third with 49.

Bill and JR. Jawhar did not have a problem with grades. Two of his courses did not pass the NCAA clearance, and he took them at a Jr. college online, and came here in January, not a year later. His grades are not a problem. He was doing just fine. Smart kid from a smart family that takes education very seriously. I am pretty sure he was above a 3.0 gpa. His sister is a freshman pre med student at U. of Arizona. I am not going to say too much more but he has been contacted by programs that leave us in the dust. Schools that are consistently top 10 schools. We will see where he ends up, because he has to know he will be playing at those schools. But there is some serious interest out there for him.

llandz: I never said he had a problem with grades while here. I was aware that if he didn't get his grades improved he wasn't going to be here and I spent many anxious moments waiting for some type of report from CuseLegacy about what was happening with him. I was aware that he was taking courses online to be able to improve and play. If he had grade problems here he would not have been able to stay as long as he did.

The problem, as I tried to point out in my ODE post, is about his size. Jawhar is never going to be an every down back running through holes hopefully made by the pulling Guard or Tackle. The pounding he would take as tomcat pointed out would keep him on a training table or in rehab. My only thought to avoid that scenario was that he is so fast he'd be through the line too quickly for anyone on the line to catch him BUT, then he would have to get by the LB's and they are on average 6'2-3" - 230, 240 or a corner after catching a pass hitting him just after he secured the ball and I could see JJ lying on the turf with cracked ribs.

No matter where he and if he goes, and I hope he doesn't, he'll have the same outlook. If in fact coaches are drooling as Dino and his assistants were they will have the same 5'9 170 lb. frame to deal with. And, playing him may take advantage of his speed but you have to cross your fingers and hope that hit from a LB or CB
doesn't take him out just after he has proven he's one of a kind.

I know this is P5 elite level college football and people get hurt - it's a given. I just hope he's going to have enough of that 4.37 to stay just out of the reach of an opportunistic, angry defensive back. We at SU never had the chance to see a backfield of Tucker & Jordan. Too bad I think it would have been very exciting and effective with an OL that was also.

And Devonta Smith had the ball in his hands 123 times.

What a dummy but unless Tucker gets injured Tuck is the #1 for the next 4 years and maybe Jordan’s hearing Hough footsteps as the #2?

maybe they asked him to move to the slot? I always saw him as a Tavon Austin clone running back and wide receiver.

most teams roll with 3/4 blue chip running backs so this is a crushing blow to the depth, the drop off after Tucker is immense. I really hope Hough doesn’t come in overweight. We need him to come in like Ron Dayne rather than Adonis Ameen Moore or Garrison Johnson (who is also in the portal.)

we’ve now had three running back‘s enter the portal, plus Howard and Adams. Seems a bit odd no?
Maybe pissed that we can recruit Olinemen?

He went into the season as the #3 RB on the depth chart, and #1 and #2 opted out.

Dino wanted to make him a slot receiver for next season so he can "get the ball in space", but Jordan wants to be an every down "pound the ball between the tackles" RB.
If true the kid is going to spend more time injured than playing, no matter where he goes.

The kid is going to light it up and be a star
Not as a full time RB, just too small. I agree if he will change positions. I wish him luck if he really insists on being a RB, he will need it, assuming he can not bulk up retaining his speed at the same time not an easy thing.

Kid played like 3 games, and people are blaming the coaches for not “getting him the ball in space”. Gotta be on the field for that.

What am I missing here?
Its like the old commercial about Glavine and Maddux jokingly saying how chicks love the long ball as the camera pans to McGuire smoking batting practice balls 500 ft. People are in love with his 4.3 40 speed (the longball). The problem is he weighs 165 pounds wet and seemingly only want to be a RB and is not open a position change or sharing carries. It also seems like some want to blame Dino and staff for it though I am not sure why. Sometimes teenagers believe in themselves and want to do it their way. More power to the young man and again good luck to him.

His first season, they got him in space, and he did cool things.

His second season, they ran him as an undersized guy straight up the back of a terrible offensive line, and he did not do cool things.

The hypothesis is that he could do more cool things if he was given the ball with just a little room, instead of surrounded by fat guys and directed to run directly into the tail pads of said fat guys.

Yeah, I guess I was focused more on the lack of games part this year though. Like...he got hurt awfully early. And there wasn’t much offseason preparation this year. I think things were pretty vanilla early on, and then he was done for the year.

He was already replaced as the feature rb. If he isn’t happy as a role player he’s free to leave under the current system, what do you want them to do, promise to sit Tucker in favor of him?
Figure out a way to use both him and Tucker. UNC managed 2 get 2 good backs on the field this year enough that they were both 1st team All-ACC (over Etienne).

do you have any evidence they wouldn’t have?

I have evidence he doesn't have confidence they would do a good job of it. Don't think the offensive side of the ball deserves the benefit of the doubt at this point.

you know why he’s leaving?

Lynch knew what he had, so he put him there. Gilbert had no idea, because he had no spring. I pray that's not the case of pounding a square block into a round hole.

Jordan has exceptional value. I expect there is a staff that will capitalize on it. Jordan was the FASTEST man west of the Mississippi in 2018.

I will not minimalize this loss.

Nobody here cares about speed

Except when it’s a 2 star HS recruit with no other D1 offers and then the staff has found a diamond in the rough that’s going to light things up.

But as far as Jordan, we couldn’t use him at all next year. You saw all the recruits coming in right. We won a game last year. Things are handled with our current group.
