Rocky Long

Long was in upstate New York to meet with Dino Babers of Syracuse University on Monday. The national writers believe it was to be considered for the Orange Defensive Coordinators job. I was told it was to become Assistant Head Coach or possible Coach in Waiting.

Wut?

he will be older than Boeheim if he waited to take over for Dino. DC/Asst HC sure seems like the likely gig, if we can get him

Whack job head coach at the secondary college program in a wet state, or a family guy at the primary college program in a state that also plays its games indoors and most road games below the Mason-Dixon line.

you are implying Dino. I like the cut of your jib, my boy

Yes most schools make a 70 year old a coach in waiting. Jesus dont people think this stuff through before reporting on it.

DC & AHC would be fine. "Coach in Waiting" never works out... and I'm not even going to mention his age.

That article also referenced a salary of 1.2 mil for SU. Seems kind of specific.

As for the "Coach in Waiting" maybe Long is also a basketball coach?

USC, Washington State, Syracuse and Ohio State are the Power 5 DC jobs currently open I believe. those schools can all outbid us if they choose, so let's hope they don't choose

Washington State? Why?

Agreed on AHC, count me in 100%. Head coach in waiting makes absolutely zero sense. The bball board is a clearer place right now then that statement.

Yeah, this doesn’t look like it’s trending our way. He’s leaving, but not to Syracuse.

Asked to name a coach he admires. Leach said defensively-speaking a coach he doesn’t know very well but really respects, who runs defense like he runs offense, is San Diego State’s Rocky Long.

I get the personal friendship/admiration. I was more wondering how Washington St would be outbidding us?

I could be wrong on that. Leach will make $4 million next year, which I assume is higher than Dino, so figured they might have more cash to pony up for assistants. if Rittenberg's source is correct, then it's probably a moot point..

This makes perfect sense with Dino going to Baylor

Coach in Waiting? Waiting for what, Godot?

That’s the problem. I’m not making that much so retirement $ is a big deal. I get it though, I’ve been going over that same thought for a long time now.

I held out for a bit just due to comfort and then made the jump to CA. Have never regretted it for a minute since. CA was aggressive because it costs a zillion dollars to live there. FL and TX however have pretty reasonable cost of living and 0 state income tax so it's been nice.
