Rumor mill

Keep the benches but renumber the seats.

You can't get 34 people across in a row anymore.

Maybe 30 years (and 20 pounds) ago. ;)

I resemble that remark (much more than I like to admit!).

Poetic license.

I've actually missed 3 games in almost 40 years. Va Tech in 1996, Rutgers in 1998, and Maryland last year.

All due to weddings or other family functions.

I do have perfect attendance in all the Meadowlands/Met Life games, so I figure I can give myself a pass. ;)

...and here I am just hoping to get to one home game and one away game next year... You are a true fan, sir, I salute you.

Enhances game experience for the die-hard fans who always go. Doesn't bring new fans in the building which is the issue. Nobody is going to a game because of a bigger concourse level and new concession stands. The product is why people go, not the building.

It's not just going once. It's about bringing fans back time after time because of the positive experience. That's actually more important than getting them one time and then having them decide it wasn't worth it, win or not.

I always see a lot of folks on here complaining about bench seats in the Dome. Just wanted to post a comparison to other stadiums with bench seating in the ACC based on images that I have seen of other stadiums.

ACC Bench seat stadiums:
Syracuse
FSU
Clemson
NC State - All bench except end zones
Boston College
Duke
North Carolina - All bench except for 1 end zone
Virginia
Virginia Tech
Georgia Tech

So, outside of Pitt and Miami which are pro stadiums...only Wake and Louisville have actual seating. Wonder if all of these teams' fan bases also complain about bench seating as much as we do.

EDIT: Also, most of them are silver bench seats too.
Wake has bench seating... at least in the SyracuseFan.com section last year. They also have grass seating.

I didn't put Wake on the list because it looks like between the 30's or so is not bench seating. But yes, they do have some.

That's the home side...

Take a look at the other side...

I have never seen a movie in the Dome:)
No idea, we don't have basketball fans complaining about uncomfortable bench seating as a reason to stay home.

Interesting observation uncovered, nice.
Why would they - they stand the whole game?

The only positive experience fans get is from watching a winning team. Why would a fan pay money for a ticket to party at the dome during before or after a game when they can go to a bar or restaurant and do the same and NOT have to buy a ticket?

Fans will be interested in a "new dome" or upgrades to the dome once or twice, then the novelty wears off if the team isn't winning. Or they will just save their "Dome trips" to check it out and party there for basketball season

Even winning won't keep 40k coming back if everything is a hassle. Winning, and an overall entertaining experience will keep it near capacity. Each on its own will not do it.

BTW, it's all of 85 more miles from the Dome to MetLife than it is to Ralph Wilson.

It'd make more sense to play at Cornell.
I would agree with Cornell but the issue may come down to what the ACC requires in the way of everything from electrical service, to the number of boxes needed to accommodate media, various radio announcers, tv people, etc. etc. Cornell may not have it. Cornell may not meet spec.

A retractable roof makes no sense. The Dome floor has no drainage. At the slightest drizzle, you'll have puddles.

They'd never finish construction in only 5 months. They can replace the Teflon in 4 months, but not a completely new roof. Which means the basketball team would have to be relocated for at least 1 season.

I can't see JB playing one of his last two seasons on the road, and I can't see Hop being forced to play one of his first two seasons without a home court advantage.

Maybe we'll get a permanent hardshell roof, but it would have to be YEARS away.

Just file this away with all the other rumors for now.

They could add drainage during the renovation. Would not be hard to do. Everything they do is going to be costly, however.

I can see a food court type thing where archbold is, even a restaurant. But I have to believe some of the existing concession stands will remain because it's a long haul from one end to the other just to grab a beer. Especially basketball which is at the other end.

What it appears to me is that what was rumored a year ago about knocking out the basketball end of the Dome and building out may have been flip flopped and instead of a new structure attached they might have decided to use the existing structure, that being Archbold.

Couldn't they flip which side of the Dome the basketball court is placed? Sure, they'd have to move scoreboards, but that's about it.

Then the movable bleachers would be on the wrong side

All the TV/Radio/Media hookups are on the West side. Not to mention all the locker rooms.

Aren't the locker rooms kind of on the "crap" side to begin with, and in need of renovation?

Ok, then what? Where do you move them to?

Disagree. Not with the costly part, that is definitely true, but it is FAR from easy, and it has a UGE ripple effect. Drainage = crowned field. Crowned field = challenges to seating/bleachers/court for basketball. Crowned field = different depth perception for football (taking some home field advantage). Crowned filed = practice facility that does not mimic gameday facility. Look earlier in the thread, I think this has been covered.

One of the EFTE examples in Europe cited a design element that could allow fresh air in from the perimeter when conditions allow. This would be the best of all worlds. Translucent material for natural light, fresh air on nice fall days, and no need for drainage. I just wish I had faith that the end result will be anything near cutting edge.

Out near Destiny
I work about a block away from Inner Harbor and they have been plowing and leveling almost all the huge lots around the Harbor. I keep dreaming they will move the new 44k seat stadium there. Start running the train again from campus to the mall, tailgating all in one location around the new stadium, walking distance from Armory Square etc.. The city is going through a massive upgrade in many areas right now and that would be the icing on the cake...or the salt on the potato if you prefer.

I run on the creekwalk every day. This is what they are building.

that apartment building is going up near Van Rensselaer, I think Macky might be talking about the land between Solar and N. Clinton where Harborview Liquors is. They're redoing that street and have leveled all of the land in between.
Yes! That is indeed the area im referring to. :)
