Saturday attendance vs Georgetown

I don’t understand why they sell tickets in 318 and 319 but the upper corners are empty. Reduce capacity and pack them in to make it look better. Perhaps its the pricing that causes the issue. For cheap walk ups, the only place to sell is 318 and 319.

Scary thing is it won’t make sense to keep playing in the dome if this is the best type of crowd they can draw. The same argument we make for the women’s team. If you can’t at least put 15-18k actual butts in seats on a regular basis it looks silly to be in such a cavernous arena. This is 1980 bad or worse.

Anyone got a pulse on season ticket trends? I’d imagine the total number is trending down over last ~7 years.

I feel like STH really save our announced crowd numbers, regardless if their butt is in the seat. I’m surprised announced was only 20k - that’s why I ask.

At least the timing of the individual seats will be palatable. More room for people to move around.

Eh I don’t worry about it. I made a positive post in the postgame thread, and I made a 100% factual post in this thread. Dcuse just doesn’t like me. And I’m quite likable. Its him.
I actually do like you. I just feel bad that you seem so down on things all the time. And I have turned grumpy. I need a break from board. I felt like that was a feel good win yesterday and to read how insignificant we are now after that sets me off.
My bad with apology.

Give him a break, it’s tough being a mascot for a minor league baseball team.

I was also there and that 12k number seemed about right... very small crowd at the game
Somehow I doubt 40% of sold tickets went in redeemed. Very good crowd yesterday. And any other program in the country would be thrilled to have it.

That’s part of it. The bigger part is that Georgetown ain’t much of a draw anymore. And sadly SU isn’t either.

The death to Georgetown crowd is getting it's wish.

That was the largest crowd of the season. I sit in 310 and I thought it seemed pretty full. Keep winning and the fans will show up.
But I didn’t see you on tv. So must have been a terrible crowd. No one cares any more. I only counted 613 people in the stands on tv.

All kidding aside we are starting to look like a Syracuse team. We didn't a couple of weeks ago.

It’s all good. I’m down on the overall trajectory of the program. For sure. Yesterday was great, as was the win at ND. All I want is to see the team win. The last week has been great.

The attendance thing is what it is. It’ll get better as we get better. It does sadden me that G’town ain’t the draw it once was.

Nice even comment. It was both fun and a little sad seeing all the clips from past games when both teams were great. In one they said one of us was ranked 3rd and the other 6th. I would love to see that again. In a perfect college basketball world both of us would get back to that and we would schedule home and away with them every year. I don't care that it would be OOC. It's harder to hate them when they suck and the game doesn't have as much impact as it used to.

I will give the team a break for yesterday if this game was played after Christmas there would have been another 5000- 8000 more in the stands. Any event of any type really struggles to draw these 2 weeks before Christmas. Play this game later at night after the 26th and it would be packed. Maybe the days or 30k plus are done but upper 20s are still possible.

Problem for SU is optics because we play in a cavernous dome. 15,000 for 90% of other schools would be a huge crowd. For us it “looks” empty. We led the COUNTRY in attendance last year and I’m sure we’ll be close this year. We got spoiled by the 30,000 crowds. We were also 12th in the country for attendance home, away and neutral showing we are still an attractive opponent. And it’s not just SU. Attendance in general is down. There’s many reasons but one is that attendance has not recovered from the pandemic.

There’s large sections of empty seats in each level of the Dome. Many in really good seats. Are they just not coming to games or did people not renew their seats?

Agreed.

And regardless of what he did on the court 40 years ago - I actually like Ewing as a coach in terms of his sideline demeanor and post game comments. He’s been respectful towards Boeheim and SU. I feel bad for him more than anything, because he’s not getting it done.

Having back to back football sellouts shows me that people will turn out when the hype is there.

Just gotta win and look like we have a chance to do something. IMO.

I don't think the optics of the dome matter much, at least on TV. They rarely show the whole thing unless it's one of our 30,000+ games. What was bad for optics were the empty seats on the lower level.

For SU fans, attendance is being compared to the past, which seems fair to me. I don't think anyone expects to average 29,900 like we did '89-90, but a downward trend is noticeable. The team has some pieces that are potentially exciting. The losses to Colgate and Bryant hurt along with the performance of the last few years. Beating some well thought of opponents is the key to getting it close to what we're used to.

What do you think the problem is with the other 99% of the schools?

I don't pay attention to the attendance of other schools or how it compares to their past attendance, so I don't know. Do you mind posting those stats?
