Scott Frost thread...

Don't think the NE recruiting thing is that important. If the program improves to winning between 7-9 every year more top NE players will consider SU.

Look at the top guys now on the roster. Thompson (MI), Ish and Estime (FL), Dungey (OR), Clark, Samuels from the South. Slayton from IL. Bennett from MI.

Clearly you find good players wherever they are. The top NE players go to Ohio State, PSU, Michigan, SEC schools etc. Will be tough to beat them for a kid unless SU is winning.

Agreed. If staff members are retained, it's because the next coach wants some continuity...which might be of significant value to a first time head coach not from the region. Just saying.

and this would mean a couple things potentially.

Coyle already knows who he wants to hire and the process is further along than believed or realized by many.

and the next HC is a current OC and wants the continuity on the side of the ball that he doesn't want to have to make decisions about.

acosta would be the most likely holdover. Dauost is a tough call unless he is willing to stay as DL coach

How do you know that they all haven't talked already?
I am sure their agents have been on the horn now, but if you are referring to talking to a HC in waiting that would be outrageous. I am sure Coyle is not that unprofessional as I am sure our staff is not either.

maybe he is but if it was my call i would let frost pick who he wants as oc and dc and not be set in stone for dauost as dc

Oh totally agree. I meant that maybe Frost chooses him. Would love to see that happen

Almost ANY HC job (other then the true powerhouse teams (ie..Bama and their like) is potentially a stepping stone position. No one can predict the future, what coach has NFL aspirations and who doesn't. Also if you look at the powerhouse teams they have a pretty good instate lock but also recruit nationally very well. If Syracuse does change coaches, what coach in their right mind doesn't make sure he gets the best Assistants the program can afford with recruiting ability in key states??? Some of the arguments on here about the Northeast ties make zero sense...

Look at Wisconsin. They lose one coach in a lateral move to Arkansas and another to a guy who took a big step down to Oregon State. I have no problem being a stepping stone. Better than the pile of **** three of our last four coaches to stepped out of.

if narduzzi talked to daoust last year about his DC job then Daoust is ready. A new coach could promote daoust if they see eye to eye.

I don't personally think a new coach is going to keep anymore than maybe 1 coach anyhow and none of this staff will choose to stick around unless it benefits them, they like their new boss and they like Syracuse.

Still think this should be and will be Coyles first call.

If we become a stepping stone, then at least that means the coach will have had success...I'll sign up for that.

Coyle/Frost would be Gross/Robinson II

So many similarities. I am begging him to use the same process we used to hire Marrone.BEGGING!!

Holy crap, it's been over a decade since Greg was hired. Can we stop making similarities between that regime and our current hypothetical changes. For . . . . Sake, every time we throw an incomplete pass its GERGIAN.

Nice to know an OC with a superb young track record and equally accomplished young AD have those expectations to live up to. We haven't even made a change and the comparisons have already begun. Do you people cry and yell at everything everyday of your life?

I swear that a strong contingent of our fan base would cry about the taxes they have to pay while winning the lottery.

Gross didn't know Robinson. He took Pete Carroll's word and didn't even really bother with the process.

This is so vastly different it's absurd. Coyle is fully familiar with Frost. He knows him, he's interviewed him. Coyle also isn't blinded by the same glitz that Gross was, when for Gross, all it took was "NFL pedigree" and "Pete Carroll's recommendation" to hire Robinson almost sight unseen.

didnt robinson come from the NFL too? Anyway, just knock this Grob crap off - its over.
