as long as the games are on turf i don't think where you play matters much @BC or @Pitt. It's different when a turf team plays on grass.
Yep. People might scoff at you including Lubbock, but those people have no idea how freaking cold it gets in the northern part of Texas in the middle of winter. Granted, it's only the tail end of November and into December when the temperatures really start dipping, but it gets really, really cold.Have you been to Lubbock, TX or Puyallup, WA in the Fall/early Winter?
The "binder" you mentioned was filled with High school coaches not only from NYC area but throughout NJ. Many of them brought their teams up for camps that the Jets ran for the kids. Point being,he did have many contacts in some fairly fertile recruiting grounds of our geography.

And let's not forget Eugene, Oregon.Or how about Bowling Green, IN or wherever the heck Western Michigan is. Apparently ist only gets cold in the northeast.
I get it.
I'm torn. I understand the relationship aspect of recruiting. At the same time, Millhouse does make a valid point. Board wisdom is that Shafer inherited a "bare cupboard" because of Marrone's recruiting shortcomings. Now maybe people will say that's because of facilities. But then that makes me wonder if facilities trump relationships, in which case then maybe it's not critical we have a guy with deep northeast ties.
I tend to think a good coach can make most anything work. If we hire a top-flight guy from the west coast I assume he's be smart enough to know he needs to find some staff with ties to the east.
The process where Skip Holtz was offered but his dad told him to turn it down, Randy Edsall turning it down because he said no way i ever work for that a-hole (Gross), a bunch of us sitting here with a a booster of Al Golden who thought it was his then Tim Green comes in and fixes it?
"Board Wisdom" is kind of like "Jumbo Shirmp"
Well, yeah.
But the point is people can't claim that it's imperative that we have a head coach with deep northeast recruiting ties and also claim that Marrone left the cupboard bare and we have poor talent today. Because if Marrone fulfilled on the former (as did Shafer and staff) than the latter can't be the case.
I really think this is the direction we need to go.

It's not in Ky.?Or Bowling Green, OH...where Bowling Green is.
Or Bowling Green, OH...where Bowling Green is.
Nassib ran the wing T in HSHave you watched HS football lately in NJ, PA, OH? The type of players you want are rare even in this area of the country. EVERYONE runs the spread now. Unless you're planning to recruit from Class C NY cow town schools that still run the Wing T.
You forgot Turner GillYes. We should do that again.
Because, ironically, Holtz is back at a mid major, Golden and Edsall are jobless, and Marrone is a position coach.
Get the band back together again!
Wow. Dan Wolken is not a Frost fan. Here he is on Axe's show yesterday:Still think this should be and will be Coyles first call.

But he went farther than "weird" He said a little more after that. But i agree, he's just a reporter who more than likely had some sort of run in.Yeah - I listened to that this morning. He thinks he's weird.
I think that's some reporter bias (i.e. I didn't get a good interview with him so he wouldn't be a good coach).
Besides, lots of coaches are weird.
