Class of 2017 SG/SF Jordan Tucker (NY / GA) Leaving Duke to Butler

If we're going to be average and there aren't any top shelf freshman available outside of tucker I'd rather fill the spot with a decent 5th year that leaves the scholarship available to better 2018 guys than a mediocre player who takes up a roster spot for 4 years or until he "decides" to transfer.

That's fair. Euro dude is really good though from what I saw. 4-5 star player IMO. I don't want to take just anyone. I wish we got involved with the Brian Bowen sweepstakes. Now people are saying he is going to go to Creighton.

Dont count out Oregon for Bowen either

Agree it's probably Creighton or Oregon now that Bridges is back for MSU.

As far as Tucker goes you can make an argument that Georgia Tech has a better roster than us.

Okogie/Lammers/Tadric Jackson might be a better returning core than Battle/TT/Howard.

Yeah colleges in "NBA cities" don't get an easier pipeline to the league. Ask DePaul.

DePaul is another beast that warrants it's own thread for a discussion.

So help me god if Jay Wright comes in outta left field

Lots of transplants living in Metro Atlanta including myself (now 15 years). College football is definitely king in the south. But Atlanta has a lot to offer in terms of entertainment. It may be landlocked, but it has every major sport (minus hockey-- bye Thrashers), concerts all the time, night life, colleges, filming movies, etc. That is appealing, especially to the younger crowd (Tucker). Definitely do not want to dismiss Tech from this equation. Although I still hope we pull this one out!

Side note... Atlanta United support has been great thus far! Awesome atmosphere! Right now their home stadium is Bobby Dodd (GA Tech's football stadium on GT's campus) and it has been sold out with 50k+ for every home match. They play there until July 30th when the new Falcons/United Stadium is ready. They are the only ATL team I root for.

Go Cuse! Get Tucker!

MLS easily has the best fan experience of the pro sports scene in the US. Glad that you're getting to enjoy ATL United's first season!

Could be right as far as the rosters. The question for Tucker would be - which school would I get more shots at? Also - which offense fits me better?

It means he's going on a visit there.
Yeah just cause his buddy is there doesn't mean he's playing ball there. Just wants to see him. Syracuse basketball is on the National map/ level. I just don't see getting the same exposure at GT not to mention our venue and fanbase

He has also said that although he likes Syracuse and would come here if the situation is right, he prefers a place that teaches man to man because that is what is primarily played at the higher levels. The all zone defense, as has been discussed, at least to a degree, has hurt recruiting here IMO.

That's depressing but can't be surprising these days. Just wish JTuck would realize that the NBA is stuck in the dark ages with this m2m sorcery. Eventually the rest of the world will realize that the earth is flat and zone is the only way to skin a cat.

Or BC, or any of the other Boston-Based colleges.
Or St John's, Rutgers, Seton Hall, etc - proximity to NYC doesn't do for those programs in terms of getting guys into the Association.

I had the privilege of attending SU @ GT this past season. Sadly, Cuse lost.

However, it was in all other aspects a quality experience. The facility (McCamish Pavilion) underwent an extensive $45 million renovation in 2012, and is quite nice, although not particularity large (8,600) for a metro arena... it's in downtown ATL.

The crowd was really jazzed from the opening tip, but since this was my one-and-only time there, I can't say how much of that was because they were playing Cuse. Lammers took us apart that game. It seemed to me there were a LOT of Orange fans in attendance, maybe as many as 500, although that's purely a guess.

All-in all, it's a great atmosphere, but nothing close to a game at the dome. Obviously, the proximity of Hotlanta is a plus. Anyway, that's my experience of what GT has to offer a guy like Tucker in terms of venue.

Is that the old Big Mac Arena?

I think 50 50 at best. I am worried about Ga Tech. The kid likes us. No doubt about that. But Ga Tech has a lot to offer him right now. They are selling him that it is a NBA city. And that all around him will be resources to get him to the NBA. Now, we put guys in the NBA every year. But Tucker is listening. And he does now live in Ga.

Just struggling to rationalize Georgia Tech as a landing spot when their leading scorer returns and plays the same position as Tucker. Okogie could potentially play some 2 but Tadric Jackson will eat most of the minutes there. Tucker would probably have to play most of his minutes as a PF. Would that not be concern?

You got it wrong. They'd put Jackson at PG and Okogie at the 2.

People are sleeping on how good Georgia Tech could be next year. Between Lammers/Jackson/Okogie they bring back 43 PPG. Jackson and Okogie both averaged 20 points per 40 last season.

Their were way more than 500 Syracuse fan's their. I would say close to 2,000!

Not arguing here, but at first I thought a high number like that. Then I thought, it couldn't be nearly one quarter of the whole crowd. Could it? Didn't seem like it.

I'll see your MLS and raise you NASCAR.

Granted, I have only been to 2 MLS games.
