Class of 2020 SG/SF Nate Kingz (OR) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/2/25)

Forget investing $1M on a center -- put that into finding an elite PG, and give whatever is left to a serviceable big.
I think we can afford both. The question is: Do the best ones want to come to Syracuse? The roster building has been better so far, and hopefully our targets see that.

Lots of guards in the portal, we should be able to snag a good one. Several of the bigs that SU is showing interest in on this thread were listed as forwards. I wonder if they are are potential Centers. They seem to be chasing long athletic players that can all shoot.

I’ve only seen Kingz in that highlight tape. Haven’t seen him otherwise. Those threes he hit were almost unguarded. Great ball movement got him open looks. Would have liked to have seen more challenged shots go down.

Almost more impressed by his ability to play through contact at the rim. Everything was left though (insert your ‘he has no right hand’ joke here).

Team Lefty Honorable mention, Jimmy Boeheim
How crafty, you ask? He seemed ambidextrous finishing in the lane.
How sneaky good? I could swear he sometimes took shots with his right hand.
How tricky? People often went up to him and asked, "are you righty...or are you lefty?"
How much of a puzzle was he? I'm still trying to figure out if he's on the all righty or all lefty team.

We just watched Richardson at MSU only go left and he was quite successful.

I, too, was a Delt. Much older than you. Back in my day I was fortunate enough to get housing in Lawrinson, which was almost brand new at the time, so I never lived in the house.

Nonetheless, I did board at the House for one or two semesters. Food was much better, but man it was a long walk from Lawrinson in the cold.
Rah delt!

Did some additional digging on Nate. He went by Nate Meithof prior to last year. Played at a prep school for one year then at Juco powerhouse College of Southern Idaho for a season. Looks like he was hurt for a year before transferring to Oregon State. Has definitely improved his outside shoot each year. Also has good rebounding stats. This might have been a diamond in the rough pickup. I think he definitely starts at SF. Might see a 3 man rotation between SG and SF with him, JJ and Kiyan with Womack getting some occasional time in mop up.

It would behoove us to bring on at least one player who knows how to set picks.

This is one of a few areas that we really need to improve on.
Freeman would benefit the most from setting good screens. Kyle is supposed to be able to set good screens

I completely agree with this. Being focused on filling up the full roster is a weird thing to be obsessed with right now.

We need better players not more players.
We need more better players

What are we selling? Development...bleh? Crowds...yeah if you are winning but without development and coaching???

is that confirmed?
He played 21-22 and 22-23 seasons at junior college. He was at Oregon for 23-24 but sat out entire season due to acl injury. 24-25 was his first year of D-1 hoops.

I don’t know exactly what that means for eligibility but two or three years seems like a possibility.

Does anyone else think this and the Kyle signing suggest Red will go with 3 tall guards and 2 tall forwards next year? Might he forego the traditional center role due to the inflated NIL prices? It wouldn't be the worst idea considering what Lampkin did to our NIL budget last year.

No, but aren’t all forwards tall anyway.. we need an experienced pg badly.

Happy to get a great 3 pt shooter but ... If Kingz plays SF that means only one of Freeman and White can play at a time. Seems strange?
He only averaged 2.5 rebs/game. Light for SF.

Nobody is going to play 40 minutes. How many different lineup combinations did we play last year in an average game?

All forwards are tall, but some are taller than others. Just this year we had 6'5" Jyare Davis (his official height is bogus) and 6'10" Donnie Freeman playing the same position.

That was because we had slim pickings.
