Class of 2020 SG/SF Nate Kingz (OR) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/2/25)

All forwards are tall, but some are taller than others. Just this year we had 6'5" Jyare Davis (his official height is bogus) and 6'10" Donnie Freeman playing the same position.
Swap one out for Petar and it’s not much better.

His height says 6’5” and Red says 6’4” and the side by side pic with red on instagram, red has him by half an inch! Liesssssssssssssssss!!

A King in football and a Kingz in basketball. Syracuse is for Kings!!
Awkward Ben Affleck GIF by Dunkin’

That was because we had slim pickings.
Which really explains our record.

We need another center and not a forward masquerading as a center. A legit 6’10 or taller, not frail (at least 230 lbs) BASKETBALL player who can defend and rebound.

We’ve had too many forwards get abused when playing legit teams with a real center, and we’ve also had unskilled BIG MEN who you’d think picked up the game of basketball recently after a growth spurt.

He drives to the hoop and seems to have hops. Gets his shot off quick, and can definitely fill in at the shooting guard position. Keep JJ' s minutes down around 27 or 28, so he is fresh. No excuse for JJ not to play defense next year with this player around.
I think that JJ at 25 minutes is perfect, with Kings/ Anthony getting 25/15 at the 2/3 positions (small ball with 3 big guards)

And the last 15 minutes at 3 playing Freeman there with White at PF.

If he could play defense, a player like Kingz is just what we need. Hopefully as you said, better roster construction forces everyone to play better defense.

Does anyone else think this and the Kyle signing suggest Red will go with 3 tall guards and 2 tall forwards next year? Might he forego the traditional center role due to the inflated NIL prices? It wouldn't be the worst idea considering what Lampkin did to our NIL budget last year.
If Whites skill set is as advertised, I fully expect him to play alongside Freeman for 15 minutes per game (with a center) by January. (a somewhat poor man’s Melo/Warrick combo). Freeman at 35% from 3 would assure we see this. (and playing against bigger teams might dictate we see this).

A Freeman/White/Kyle front court would be as athletic a front court as we’ve had in 10 + years.

As you say, the rest of the time it would appear that we are likely to play more small ball, with three BIG guards. ( we did it lots last year with two small guards and Taylor at the three) . Would allow 25 mpg for JJ, Kingz, and the starting PG, with 30 more for Fennell, Anthony and Womack, based on how they are playing.

I think a 6 foot 10 power forward/center combo that weighs at least 230 is more critical than a backup true center. That way if White is not ready, Freeman will not be locked into playing just the four.

JJ is playing more than 25 mpg. We may not like it but it’s happening.

In two years Red has shown zero appetite to play big and play guys together with similar skillsets. He refused to play Bell and Taylor together this year. Last year he refused to play Brown and McLeod before McLeod got injured. I don't see it changing at all.

The likely scenario is White backs up Freeman and gets in the game if Freeman plays small ball 5.

I'll take that bet. I expect JJ will get banged up at some point in the season as well which will mean an uptick in mins for the rest of the guards.
We had a senior who started every game in 2003, but averaged about 27 minutes a game , and well over 30 + as a junior. Duany a much better shooter, and a great defender.
But he knew Billy needed to play, and played less minutes to help the team win a championship.
If JJ is truly a team player he will play less minutes and stay rested.
He doesn't play defense well enough to play more then Duany did as a senior.
27 minutes is about right.

So what do we expect the plan to be here? 3 guard starting lineup? JJ at PG, Kingz SG? Kingz off the bench?

If we're starting him as the defacto SF and see that lineup 20+ minutes per, I think we're going to get in trouble on the boards/defensively...

He’s not any worse than Bell at either. JJ won’t be the point. We are still in that market.

Worse rebounding than with either Bell or Taylor at sf? Hardly possible.

I’m happy we got kings and this isn’t a direct response to this as I believe he’ll be a good piece and a good upgrade from bell. It’s more just a general thing I’ve noticed the last few weeks but no offense to you and some others, why is the response always “well it can’t be any worse than last year” like yeah that’s the point if we’re even close to anything last year it’s going to be a disaster. I don’t want “any worse than last year” we want and NEED to be significantly better.

Red’s playing height is listed at 6’4“.

Given some slight height reduction due to age (50s), he is probably 6’3 1/2” to 6’4” now.
