Shafer new DC at Maryland

Looks like Harbaugh gave him a good recommendation. Solid.

Shafer and Durkin coached together under Harbaugh at Stanford where Shafer was the defensive coordinator and Durkin served as defensive ends and special teams coach.

Read the book Endzone. Harbaugh is not going anywhere. He's going to retire in Ann Arbor. It's not even a question.

He's not going anywhere as long as there is a brick facade on the front of the practice facility.

At that point, Shafer is barely going to care. Just another football game he'd want his team to win.

George McDonald scoffs at your claim.

Scoffs!

Ha. It will be funny watching him try to figure out who to be mad at from SU next year. He should start preparing his witty tweet now.

Unfortunately for him he will probably crack under pressure and struggle to make a decision on what to tweet. Then Doreen will have to pill him out and make another coach make the tweet for him.

That's... not good. London as a position coach is going to be a ridiculous recruiter. Thankfully we don't go into the DMV much, if at all. Though I'm sure London will go after players elsewhere as well.

9-3 and take a look at the recruiting class Michigan's putting together.

#1 in the nation Rashan Gary will be wearing Maize and Blue. I hear he loves the beautiful look of brick.

They are loading up on the defensive side of the ball.
Good - I hope they supplant PSU in the middle tier of the Big Ten East and let IU, PSU and Rutgers battle for 7th place. Just hope MD focuses their recruiting in different areas than SU (fingers crossed).

Just win baby

When Durkin blows up and become a candidate for another job and moves on who replaces him Shafer or London?

As FBS head coaches, Shafer and London are a combined 41-69. So I would look elsewhere for the next UMD HC.

On another Maryland related note, (not sure if this was mentioned here before) the UMD staff had SU guys Richardson, Bevill and Catalina on it. I hope they land safely somewhere.

I think this means Durkin has made it to the Bowling Green game in his 2015 season film review.

Under Armour is going to offer Belichick $8M per year to coach the DBs.

Who would've thought that Mike London and Shafe were going to be coaching together, as assistants, 7 weeks ago? Granted, London is working for Shafe no less.

It is amazing how quickly college football can change in a short amount of time.

Shafer as DC and now Mike London as DL coach. Two former ACC head coaches as assistants on the staff.

Yep things change quickly. The bloodlust on this board was like the film The Purge, and now, everybody is happy. Well, at least for now.

If the new Maryland HC is a first time HC then it's a pretty good idea to have some previous guys on the staff with that experience.

Recruiting could get shaken up pretty good in a couple places, definitely worth monitoring.

Hyperbole much?

You're right. We are happy for now. This is how sports fandom works. We've suffered through 16 seasons with one legitimately good year, and that was 14 years ago.

One could argue that holding the jock for a guy who won 7 games in two years was blood lust to drive the program further into the toilet. (This is deliberate hyperbole.)
