Shafer new DC at Maryland

If he asks Mike London for advice, he'll end up using his full game allotment of TOs in the 1st series. They'll also do great on defense, partially because London is really good as a DC/position coach and partially because they'll have 12 men on the field.

Well, if Durkin is looking to let his opponent score before time runs out in the 1st half, Shafer can definitely give him some pointers.

;)

Ugh...please don't remind me. I was a big Shafer supporter but that sealed his fate with me. Plus I think he punted earlier that game when on the opponents 40yard line with 1 or 2 yards to go down by a couple TDs against Florida St. I almost lost my mind.

Hyperbole much?

You're right. We are happy for now. This is how sports fandom works. We've suffered through 16 seasons with one legitimately good year, and that was 14 years ago.

One could argue that holding the jock for a guy who won 7 games in two years was blood lust to drive the program further into the toilet. (This is deliberate hyperbole.)

I guess you don't understand hyperbole.

Nonsense, you've been beating this drum that Shafer was done wrong.

This board never went over the top, in fact the over the top stuff was the twisted defense of his tenure.

Completely disagree. Maybe a lot got deleted but there was plenty of bloodlust in the fire Shafer stuff. And the same happened with Coyle after Frost signed with CFU. The pro Shafer stuff was a blip.

Apparently interpretation of what transpired here is Skewed by which end of the spectrum your viewpoint was from.

Why bring Coyle into it.

I don't think anybody enjoyed seeing Shafer getting let go.

Sometimes I really have to remind myself that in the end , we are ALL Syracuse fans and we all want the same thing. How we achieve that end is fraught with the deep passions and emotions we all have as fans of Syracuse University sports. Scott Shafer had the same passions. Shafer felt like family to me, and like family, you don't immediately kick them to the curb if they screw up, or don't meet expectations. You give them every possible chance to succeed. Shafer loved SU, The community and the team, more than Marrone could ever even contemplate. So, when he was fired, it hurt. I hope for the best, fully support Coach Babers and go on, hoping Time and Winning will heal all wounds. Especially here.

Congrats to Shafer on getting a DC job. Hope he does well.
Durkin added Mike London from VA also, Surrounding himself with head coaches could be a smart move for a first time head coach.
