Snowmageddon 2017

the storm hasnt gotten to syracuse yet , its actually ahead of schedule, heavy stuff around mid day i expect.

we just shut down campus for the first time in 24 yrs.

Counties are now closing roads to all travel. Madison county at 6p and Tompkins county at 3p so far.

It's not as bad as expected in Syracuse yet nor NYC, Boston etc.

Starting to get pretty bad in suburbs to the southeast of syracuse

I remember shoveling in '93, finished the walk and it was already filled back in where I started.

If your profession allows for it, these days are perfect for a little unexpected staycation.

Much respect for all first responders, plow drivers, and utilities folks today. Those people put in crazy hours and allow me to sit on my ass in a warm house, drinking booze, and watching it snow.

gonna be tough to get to the game from south of the city for sure

Subject to arrest or prosecution. Wow.

My brother is pissed. He's going to the game and lives in Madison Co. He'll leave about 5 but getting home from the Dome he wonders if he'd get arrested. They have to let people go home from places don't they?

Just say that you're headed to the Yellow Brick Road Casino. They'll probably escort you. ;)

No room at the Bees Inn for the night, you can just leave the light on.

interesting that spots say 20 inches where some people already have 12-15+

For those familiar with Madison County, I was driving west to Syracuse in the middle of a blizzard and approached Morrisville (I believe) where Route 20 dives down an impressive hill into the main intersection. I got to the top of the hill and then completely lost contact with the road. Basically pointed the car in the general direction and wondered how it would all end up at the bottom. Since I was driving a tank (52 Chevy) I was more worried about who I might run into.

i think no travel means no travel.. I know we have to have special cards that we carry for these situations so we dont get ticketed traveling to work when the roads are closed.

So if you legit work till 9pm say outside of Madison, you cant go home?

I would have to believe that if you are coming from out of the county and just going home they would let you go. However, if they ask where did you go and he says the SU game they may not be as nice given that he knew the ban was in effect when he initially left the house. I would find it hard to believe someone would be arrested though even if that is the ultimate penalty that could be given. Maybe a ticket but even that is a steep price to pay.

I know the reason cornell shut down at noon was because they were told the county was shutting down at 3 and they needed to give people time to get home. in the past when the county was shut down we were told to stay in place or walk home.

Knowingly violating an emergency order is a Class B misdemeanor, which carries a maximum fine of $500 and/or a sentence of no more than three months in a county or regional correctional facility. Officers have the discretion to do everything from citing an offender to arresting him. -

they may just give you a ticket , but they can arrest if they want.
