sorry but coaching is a problem

So we went 34-3 in 2012 without having “fundamentals”? Cmon.
Too many turnovers.
That team was 10 deep.
That was special.
Passing wasn’t as good like it was in 2010.
2012 had insane talent and beast anchor in the middle of the zone.
It wasn’t a good fundamental team. Kris Joseph was good for one dumb charge a game.
Scoop was the ultimate no no yes PG.
That year was special but it wasn’t a good basketball IQ team.

Rautins-AO-Wes team had basketball IQ and was the smartest team we had.

Don’t forget Kris Jo dribbling through his legs or behind the back attempts which resulted in it going off his leg/foot out of bounds occasionally. Happened twice in the OSU E8 game.

This seems to get posted here a lot. I'd just like to know in which way he got the most out of the team? He literally has physically got the most out of them by playing 3 guys 40 mins a game. In reality though, I don't seem to remember any kind of strategy or anything else that has "got more out of this team" than any other coach would have. He's putting the 5 best (only) guys on the floor and letting them play 1 on 1 basketball for the most part and they win the games where they have a talent advantage and lose the ones that they aren't. Not really sure how any other coach couldn't manage that.

You do have a point there. By default he has to play the players he has available but it’s not like we’re doing anything special schematically out there.

Yup. Hakim Warrick and Tyler Lydon too.
The only recentish guy that might have done better leaving early is Kris Joseph. Super Soph.

2010 team was so fundamentally sound. So pretty to watch. The carolina game at MSG is the best I ever felt about our game.

This is very simple- next year will be the true year for evaluation. If our offense is still incredibly discombobulated and our team loses double digit games with the experience we are returning and the freshmen we are bringing in, I don't think much can be argued about the issues with coaching, style, player development, etc.

Biggest offseason requirements for me next to bringing everyone back who "should" be back- Sidibe healthy, Chukwu/Marek stronger both physically and on offense (if it's possible).

No excuses next season. Period. We will see. I'm looking forward to it like I always do.

Agreed. Next year, we will have a decent amount of talent on the team.

When I watch games and guys cannot even catch the ball, make open dunks, and cannot hit an open jumper to save their life; then I cannot put that on the coach.

It's so strange. You take guys that in HS were good enough to be recruited by SU, but now suddenly they're reluctant and nervous about shooting. What could it be?

Oooh, I know! The coach is too mean! Otherwise they’d all be good instantly!

If you have any theories to explain how a basketball player recruited to play at a storied program in a P5 conference becomes so tentative about shooting an open jump shot they can't hit one I'm all ears. I can't remember which game it was but Marek caught the ball near the FT line, his defender backed off and invited him to shoot, and he looked back at the bench, shook his head and passed right back to Battle or Howard on the perimeter.

The only other explanation I can think of is we just keep recruiting guys who are wildly overrated by scouts. Just bad luck I guess! It's funny how when we actually have a "bench" people here defend the penalty box/short bench philosophy because the guys on the bench are "just aren't ready to play." Afterall, Boeheim sees them in practice! He knows! So we end up with guys that are apparently so bad they can't be trusted to get a few minutes of play when we're up 10 in the second half against Buffalo or when someone is gassed and struggling.

The coach is mean and he sucks! If he was nicer and a good coach, all our players would be great from day 1!

Why does it have to be one extreme or another.

That’s what I’d like to know. I hear our recruiting sucks, I hear our recruiting is good but they suddenly can’t play offense because of the coach.

Never mind that Syracuse history is filled with really good players that couldn’t throw a rock in the ocean their freshman year or looked like a deer in the headlights, or in some cases both: Nichols, Dave Johnson, Damone Brown, Z Sims, not a freshman but first year at SU Gbinije, are a few that come to mind.

Joseph just didn't show up in that game. He played so poorly that it likely tanked his value in the draft.

Nope. I don’t think we focus on them much. Other teams do not have the issues we have in these areas.
I believe it looks that way to you, because we’ve been very young and inexperienced the last few years. Other teams in the ACC, like Clemson, are playing juniors and seniors who have had several years learning in their systems and improving their fundamentals.

it's a huge problem. and we let Hopkins get away.

Aren’t you the guy who said that it might be JB’s best coaching job if we made the tourney?

Now we are on cusp and coaching is the problem?

Play walk-ons; press more with no bench; play man; this thread is brutal to read.

Wrong thread. This one also brutal but JB Presser after BC, with above examples, is worse.

I went back to January, I cant find anywhere that I said that. I also don't think I would have posted something like that as I have been on the record saying this should be a tourney team.
