Southerland

As SJU (Harrison, I believe) was running out the clock around mid court, Southerland stepped in as he was about to hand the ball to the ref with 1 second life trying to steal it. Harrison pushed him out of the way, rightfully so, and the refs blew the whistle to settle the minor "dispute" briefly.

Just a stupid play by Southerland, and everyone here knows it.

If it was Harrison who did that to Triche, people here would be saying how classless it was. Just like if Dominique Jones threw down a windmill at the end of the game instead of Flynn when we played USF. Everyone read Otto's post--he is spot on here.

Amen. Let's call a spade a spade and let's move on. Defending the indefensible is a contortionist act.

an aberration imo out of character for dirty dix and i GUARANTEE he already regrets it more than we here know.
let's move on.

To steal from David Gilmour...James had a momentary lapse of reason. Nothing more. Not even worth a thread.

Apparently it was worth a ... Long thread. The board decides.

I cannot believe anyone would be okay with what James did. But, many on this board who want to play it off. It would not be the first time this board has surprised me. Sad.

Ultimately it will prove to be forgettable, but it soiled a fantastic moment. Heck it seemed to stop a wild let's go orange chant in the garden.

Bottom line, it was odd. and JB agrees. It doesn't matter if you don't, or many on this board don't.

Jeez man, you woulda thought he'd actually stolen it. Went down. Windmill dunked it. Spit in a STJ cheerleaders face. Ran over to scorers table, grabbed the mic and said " you Lou Carnacecca."

He tried to steal the ball from an opponent during a basketball game. Ohhh the horror. I hope no children were watching the game!!!

Hows the weather up there on your high horse?

Don't worry about the children. They know better.

A guy played clean defense, and we're up to 6 pages now. You would think this thread was about Scoop with all of the overdone bitterness. Maybe it wasn't the brightest play in the world, but it isn't some outlandish act that some of you make it out to be.

And if it were the other team that did it? I wouldn't be upset. I'd be upset at our guy for pushing a guy(as the SJU player did) who simply was playing defense. I'd be upset at our team for losing by so much. I wouldn't be upset for a defender playing clean defense during the game. There is this thing we like to call "focus", and I think we all could benefit from better use of it at times.

I got about half way through this and muttered, "What are you talking about?"

My wife and daughter are staring at me in stunned silence.

We're they stunned you were speaking in twitter talk?

Also... Why is STJ running the clock out in the first place? Everyone knows its stat padding time. Id be going in for an easy layup

I agree with you there. I don't know why they stopped. But once they decided to then it makes sense to let it go. You're up 25 let it go. He tried to steal the ball with like three seconds left.

I was there and I was booing St Johns. Why were they stopping with 25 seconds left down 20+. Weird. Just play to the end. I've seen it with about 5 seconds left but 25, that was a stretch.

+1

No reason for it - analysis ends right there.

This thread is as stupid as the "play" was. Who cares? We finally played a good game after weeks of crap ball, enjoy it. Did the lone 5 st johns fans jump on the board and make a big deal about this? He made a stupid decision (not a dickheaded one) and I'm willing to bet he learned his lesson.

Where was the 100 post thread about poor basketball manners when Fab was throwing down 360 dunks in blowouts as time expired?

Holy crap, lighten up Francis.

I wasn't, but yes that might have been more shocking to them than the bomb.

ha... i jokingly meant speaking in twitter language.

as in you actually said "What" instead of "what the..."

Are there players who can get away with that? it seems uncalled for no matter what.
Dumb stunt but no great shakes - glad we found something to b@#ch
What the hell was he doing at the end of the game?

Just a dumb stunt. What does he think he is? A college student? Glad we found something to b@#ch about though.

My lord...so this is why SU gets the reputation for having "meatball" fans...

Unreal...

If you are telling Francis to lighten up or you liked this critique you have absolutely no cred here!

Gotta love a thread that contiues because people keep posting how stupid the thread is...

It's not a team's right to have the defense stop playing regardless of how much you are down. If you want to run out the clock, dribble the ball and don't assume the other team will quit before the game is over just because you want to. In this game alone Boeheim was upset far more on a number of other plays. He gave JS about as minor an admonishment as he could.

Did you feel the same way about John Lucas III in the Jimmy V game?

My first thread is apparently the dumbest ever. You're welcome. **Kobe Bryant voice**
