St. Joseph's Postgame

Betsey and Kingz along with Kyle were our best players last night, but the first two have to be guys that make free throws being that they are our best shooters. If they go 8-10 we cover and the complaining here this morning isn't nearly as loud.

I thought Nait was mostly good too even though there was some complaining about him in the game thread. I thought JJ was pretty meh. Sadiq and Kiyan are freshmen so we should expect them to be up and down.

We missed 10 ft's in the second half alone.

Why in the hell was this game on at 9. There was NOTHING on at 7. Perfect example of ESPN calling the shots and screwing Syracuse. No reason to play a Thursday night non league game at 9, unless your on regular ESPN.
They gave VT the 7pm ACCN slot...welp looks like I was wrong…

The biggest problem facing this team is going to come when an opponent realizes we don't handle full court pressure at all. The plan appears to be have the receiver of the inbounds pass (usually George) dribble into a dead corner or a double team.

Rebounding and FT shooting are obvious woes but the lack of quickness and ball handling on this team is going to make it very difficult down the road.

Philly teams are always a tough out. We won after a long layover. We're a bubble team with Donnie. Luckily we have stayed in the hunt without him. This team unfortunately plays to the level of its competition.

Thank you Mr. Kyle, Mr. Betsy and Mr. Kingsz.

The team cannot make free throws and now George, JJ, and Anthony have forgotten how to dribble.

Coach if you want to keep your job, you need take JJ and Anthony out of the game every single time they throw up a too quick and/or outrageously bad shot. Combined they shot 6 for 19. The rest of the team shot 19 for 34.

And the rules do allow you to pass the ball to Kyle when he has his defender pinned deep in the lane.

didn't watch the game or the highlights so i have zero context here. but just sitting at the table looking at the boxscore with my coffee the 2 numbers that caught my eye were jj's mere 11 points on 13 shots. that's not very good . and i see kingz played 35 minutes . was that necessary against st joes ? enjoy your day.

We need to make more of an effort to run offensive plays through Kyle. He's not just a raw athletic dunker guy, he has some legitimate low-post footwork skills. There was one play in particular last night where he calmly backed his man down and then pivoted and sealed off his defender's body like a skilled NBA center and finished. I was very impressed by it. Less garbage jumpers and more of that!

No doubt, the guards were super sloppy last night. The turnovers were egregious. Kiyan, in particular, really needs to improve this part of his game. The guy who was really absent last night was Sadiq. Have to believe he was one of the guys under the weather. His infectious energy was totally absent and he never really got off the ground last night. He is such a key for this team on defense and that, imo, was a factor in our blah performance last night.

You know how the “this team won by” game works? We beat Tennessee and Tennessee beat Houston so….
That's not the Gotcha you think it is when all three of those games were 1possession or OT and they weren't all on a neutral court.

It’s pointless anyway. St Joes is about 150 teams better than Western Carolina according to metrics.

I hated how we brought the ball up last high too. Also tho we’ve already played the best 4 defenses on our schedule outside of Duke so who knows, doesnt seem like alot teams want to play that way.

All I can figure is that it just takes once or twice getting out of it and finding Kyle or the front court for a dunk to stop it.

Last night we were just a sluggish mess.

I was actually expecting a performance like last night. 9 days off after the biggest win the of the season. Not a big crowd due to the late start and the weather. I don’t bet on games my teams participate in but if I did I would’ve bet St Joe’s to cover in a heartbeat.

The only thing that really ticked me off was that behind the back pass that Starling tried. Cuse I think was up by 7 and had all the momentum after a sluggish start. It looked like they were a good minute or 2 away from blowing the game open. And Starling does that and allows St Joe’s to hit a 3 the other way. A 5 point swing. That’s the kind of mistake you expect from a freshman, not a Senior who’s started for 4 years.

Hopefully Red learned that Fennell and Zephir should not leave the bench unless we’re ahead or behind by 20 with under 2 minutes to go in the game. In their short time on the court they were possibly -10.

I disagree.

I think Fennell tried too hard and failed. I would like Red to give him a specific role in the offensive plan & see what he can do. This would require Red to have a plan.

The offense desperately needs a plan, purpose, & some unselfish players focused on setting others up.

Fennell strikes me as someone who could be that kind of presence.

I'd actually like Anthony to be that presence too. I think his game would explode.

Fennell, George, and others seem lost bc there is no plan. Imo.

Mr Betsey and Mr Kingz combined to go 2-10 on fts.

Man I’m so ready for Donnie to come back. We need someone to take charge on offense and hit FT’s.
How has Kiyan been regressing since the beginning of the season. So much skill but I guess that’s a freshman for you.
He's forcing things instead of letting the game come to him.
