I go back to the year after Dave Bing left for season tickets. I know - great timing for some years of mediocrity and it was actually my dad who bought the seasons. Pre-Manley renovations. Beautiful memories.
Then it turned. Dennis Duval doing that Globetrotter warm-up thing. Classic! Manley renovations. Louie & Bouie.
Will it work in a football stadium or will the Dome swallow up the cheers? We know how that worked out. Pearl where have you gone? RIP. Make your foul shots and win over Indiana. Still Smarts! (See what I did there?)
Did someone say national championship? Then a few years later one ill time injury away from a second national championship (which should have been the third).
Anyway, the program is finally losing me. Six or seven years ago, I couldn't make the Duke game. (As a Carolina grad in addition to SU - not the end of the world!). I sold my tickets and got back half the cost of my seasons tickets. Today I couldn't go due to work running late. I sold my tickets. Price? $18 each for the # 2 team in the country. What more do you need to know - the market speaks and we seem to be heading toward a depression.
I'll make the Carolina game. (Who by the way seem to run the same offense as SU, that is to say, none.). I'll renew by basketball seasons as a contribution to SU, I know I can be won back, but right now the thrill is gone.
“For of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: "It might have been!"
Peace my fellow fanatics!
