The long term continuity approach to the coaching staff is a great thing but it only works if you have the right guy at the top and we didn't. So you don't keep limping along *hoping* that the guy who isn't the guy will become the guy. That isn't good management. Good management is giving a reasonable amount of time to make your own decision, which Coyle did, and then being decisive in that decision, which he has been.

What happened at the end of the first half against FSU and what happened with Dungey and his latest injury should never, ever, ever, ever ,ever ,ever ,ever be decisions that a good college football HC would consider making the way that Shafer made them. And that is in year 3, not year 1.

I'm literally dumfounded that people actually expected Coyle to not fire Shafer considering the decision making we've seen in the last 5 games or so. Coyle gave Shafer a fair opportunity to audition and he blew it, plain and simple.
You are 100% correct!

Uh, as mentioned, no, the numbers are not correct. At all. Like, not even within earshot of being correct.

It took literally 5 seconds of Googling for me to find the revenue for last year.

Looks like his number isn't that far fetched for 2014, assuming he meant 20mil gross profit and not revenue before expenses.

Which is irrelevant because no one pays salaries from "profit".

Yep, only missed by 4.5X.

BTW that $15M "net" was at least top four in D-1 if I'm not mistaken.

Caveat with all that is that reporting might not align with the internal accounting of the school.

His words..." You guys want to pay someone $3 mil a year (and that doesn't include staff by the way) when revenue for the ENTIRE athletic dept is only $20 mil?"

I will not try to spin his words to say something else. Where in that sentence or anywhere else in his diatribe does he reference 20 million in profit?

Perhaps the reaction to this wouldn't be so bad if the original post wasn't so condescending.

We're not a state school? Do tell!

What's interesting from that graphic is that in 2014 football revenues = $38.5M, football expenses = $23.6M. The total SUAD profit was approximately $16M. That shows most of the profit is generated by football.

Good news guys, we have an excess of +/-$15M for football coaches!

On the first page I had said that perhaps the OP meant profit instead of revenue. Then Jeklish said that "Uh, as mentioned, no, the numbers are not correct. At all. Like, not even within earshot of being correct.

It took literally 5 seconds of Googling for me to find the revenue for last year." Which is why I showed that last year we only made 15 mil after expenses which would also be 5mil less the OP's number.

When you are attempting to lecture others on their lack of knowledge you had better be right with your assertions. Not my place or problem to try to decipher what they might have actually meant. The OP responded a few times without making the correction you suggest so your argument doesn't hold water...good try however!
