Terry Lockett out for the season

We're going to be in some serious trouble defensively the rest of the year. (This is why it's so important Shrader improve his vision and the running game gets going.)

Do they move Okechukwu or Geer inside? Geer looks 250 plus to not the 233 he's listed at.

2 Deep: ?

45 Kevon Darton DL 5-11 266 R-So. Fitchburg, Mass. / Worcester Academy
99 Elijah Fuentes-Cundiff DL 6-4 267 RF Bronx, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes

The bench:

96 Elijah Wright DL 6-3 273 RF Syracuse, N.Y. / Solvay
97 Belizaire Bassette DL 6-0 260 Fr. Broward, Fla. / American Heritage
29 Josh Hough DL 6-3 315 RF Beaver Falls, Pa. / Beaver Falls
53 Garth Barclay DL 6-7 277 RF York, Pa. / York Suburban

Maybe?
93 Caleb Okechukwu DL 6-4 268 R-Jr. Washington, D.C. / St. John's College
4 Jatius Geer DL 6-6 233 RF Anderson, S.C. / Belton-Honea Path
If Caleb could move inside, that would be huge. We have far more viable options for DE.

I think it’s safe to say Hough is out for the year. Barclay’s HS tape looked more like an edge rusher than a nose.

Fuentes-Cundiff got more run against UVA than I recall all season and that was before Lockett got hurt. Hopefully, he’s showing growth.

Sucks , but the way he was helped off I was about 90% sure this news was coming today.

It was a classic ACL type of injury, id have bet rrlbees portfolio he was out for the year. Sucks but every year we seem to have a thin position group this inevitably happens.

I’ve been surprised that teams haven’t run the ball more. I think we’re going to get gashed on the ground. We have our answers. We are so undersized.

UVA caught on late, that last TD drive they gashed us on the ground. Problem for them was it was to late and the last drive they couldn't afford to run.

Yep, I knew Hough was out and Barclay is not going to play thats why I listed them last, But man that's it for depth. Those are the biggest guys on the roster who play DL. Scary.

They did , I think it was more fatigue then loss of Lockett , but I’m sure both were factors. 45 had to play more so the 2 are related.

Barclay shoudl see a bunch of time against Wagner. 6'7 and 277lbs. I know he jsut moved over to DL this summer but I would imagine he's up to probably 280+. The walk on Wright from Solvay might be an option as well - 6'3 and 273.

I wonder if that UCF portal DL who spurned us for Mr. Khaki Pants is second guessing his choice? He is currently 3rd string at NT at Michigan

Sigh...

His name is Cam Goode. He's been getting run at Michigan.

I like Darton but think he is a bit better suited to the later downs. Locket is a little bigger and better on First down and obvious running downs or when they have the offense has the bigger packages in. Don't really have bodies at DT that have much size. I like Geer but he would be depth at DE. After Locket went down I don't think Darton left the field and neither Fuentes-Cundiff or Bassette came in so that didn't reassure my worries. I do wonder about Okechuku moving in side some. If Simmons is hurt too that is not great.

Barron not being in hurt and McDonald not playing hurt as well. What is the deal with him? Injury or illnes maybe?

I have to think that we switch someone on OL to DL.

Do we still have that 400lb 4 star guy from NYC or has he eaten his way out of the program?
You mean the guy that is starting at left guard?

IMO, while neither player was a true run-plugger [and I know we aren't targeting players like that in this system], we were squeezing just enough productivity out of Lockett / Darton to enable the DEs and LBs to do their thing. They were both undersized, but compensated with relentless motors.

My fear now is that Darton will get worn down having to platy an inordinately high number of snaps, with Lockett out. All hands on deck at this point, need Fuentes-Cundiff or others to help replace some of what Lockett provided.

I have no idea with a true frosh like Bassette is ready to contribute, whether Fuentes-Cundiff is ready to step into a bigger role, whether it is realistic to expect a walk on [just going from above] to be able to provide some break-glass snaps, etc. -- but it's time to force feed some of those players minutes, because we now need them to be ready. Would be great if we could get Funetes / Bassette both ramped up to play the rest of the way.

Ya Darton played every snap after the injury and was clearly gassed by that second to last drive. Gonna have to manufacture some depth here somehow/someway. Not much experience but there are some guys with decent size on the roster who could maybe give Darton a series or two off. Just hope the staffs answer isn't to run Darton into the ground, that's not going to work.

I blame HCDB after losing Cam Goode for not getting a one or two year stop gap reserve at the interior. A big difference between a 21/22 yr old vs an 18/19 year old

Why not blame Tony White?
