Texas A&M boosters paying $30M NIL

I’m also not sure about this, but I think donating to the school for facilities is tax deductible. Giving money to a kid I doubt is.
Its tax deductible. The 25k that you said you donate can come off your AGI. My accountant also deducts the contribution portion of our season tickets.

I'm not convinced NIL is such a good thing in the current iteration. What I see is a select few players making possible 7 figure payouts. (Money given to them before even playing a down in some cases). This inequity surely will create locker room dysfunction.

I also see that college sports spending is out of control and the "inmates (boosters and star players) are running the asylum". All while the NCAA punishes some schools severely and let others off the hook.

The sport is heading to a place many fans don't like. We will see if changes can be made to save the game.
I don’t think NIL has anything to do with all of that except now it’s more out in the open? At the top it’s always been run by the inmates as you say (though I find that analogy a bit problematic).

The good parts of NIL is random volleyball player getting a chunk of change for her celebrity or our football players making anything off of their relative success.

GameAbove is a group of EMU alumni that has donated a lot of money for various academic and facility projects on campus. Looks like they want to get in the buy a player game.

I'd love to see him go to EMU for the farcical way they'll use his image and/or likeness for the million bucks.

Not sure.. that’s just what is being reported by people familiar with Caleb’s decision. This is as of this afternoon.

I'm SHOCKED that an OU writer would create a story like that to placate their fanbase... or get clicks...

I will not believe a single one of these stories.

Nick Saban concerned there could be too much money sloshing around leading to imbalances in college athletics...

Typical training equipment with a nice backsplash and mood lighting?

Yep, Nick Saban wants things to go back to the way things were 2-3 years ago when it was the local boys playing those goons from down state and after a tough game you hopped in a trashcan full of ice and drank pickle juice to recover.

you could solve the problem in one way by all the money being spent going into one huge pot split among all the players and no one person getting paid by them selves. but who would want sports to be about something other than money

But wouldn't you then get people complaining that players that are "worth more" aren't getting their fair share compared to guys that never see the field. This is supposed to be about players benefiting from their own name, image, and likeness, right? Of course, everybody knew it wouldn't be that simple. It would just pave the way the boosters to bring the bags out in the open.

Man reading this thread has really bummed me out. Im gonna be sad to see the death of college athletics, although it is the very fault of those in power. This stuff just doesn’t make it fun anymore. It’s suppose to be about going to school and being part of a community. With the way social media is making people more about the individual and less about a hive the wider spread narcissism and arrogance will reign. I guess this whole thing is a great metaphor for society as a whole. Greed is always the demise of a great society.

Almost seems weird that we have a campaign to raise $150M to build a shiny new facility.

Maybe it should be a campaign to raise $150M to give to recruits over the next several years.

I hope we're not more behind than we think. Will the facilities be important to the college football recruit of the roaring 20s? Or will cold hard cash.
That's the problem facing SU in my opinion. Do we have enough donors to upgrade facilities and fund players...not sold we do.
