What they do is on them. IMO, this is is a low-grade maneuver that doesn’t serve them well. Despite the slavish attention some in our fanbase bestow upon them, Rutgers is considered a joke by most every CFB fanbase. No one “aspires” to be like Rutgers. For some sick reason there is however a contingent of SU fans who love to talk about them, hence this multi post thread that dominates the board. Believe me, whatever spin they put on it will not matter. Win or lose, they’ll still be Rutgers. Period. You hit on the point. “They can spin it any way they want”. Can’t do that if you’re not in it. This isn’t money (or not primarily). This is to show program progress to donors, to the Chancellor, to the students, to the recruits. This is for them to say “We are a program on the rise” and “we wouldn’t have been here without our dedication to academics” which plays well with recruit’s families and the teachers who complain about money being funneled to the AD.
I think that comes from a lot of SU students/alum are from Jersey so of course RU will be on their radar. An ex of mine went to RU and I have lots of friends from there. You ever go to the Catskills? Locals are always complaining about people from Jersey. Locals in Jersey complain about peeps from NYC and Philly. There is a lot of crossoverWhat they do is on them. Exactly! I complain that a vast majority of the “Jersey Shore” cast isn’t from NJ, and in fact is from NY, including Snooki. I complain that most of the traffic problems and road rage episodes I experience are caused by drivers with NY license plates. I’m not sure what that has to do with any of this, nor do I understand it when those on this site besmirch NJ, full of SU alumni, donors and fans.I think that comes from a lot of SU students/alum are from Jersey so of course RU will be on their radar. We directly compete with RU for recruits. If they are changing perceptions, that directly affects us. This is not about them being seen as on the level with Ohio State or Clemson, it’s about them being seen as better than us. DoctorBombay nobody aspires to be like us either these days.
I don’t think many people will argue this. It doesn’t mean they should be excluded from making jokes on. They certainly make jokes about us on their boards.than us. @DoctorBombay nobody aspires to be like us either these days.
I say rip them to shreds. I’m a proponent of this thread. I’m just saying it’s about Rutgers, not NJ.I don’t think many people will argue this. It doesn’t mean they should be excluded from making jokes on. They certainly make jokes about us on their boards.
Our AD and football leaders have lots to do. How does that mean the fans, who can do little other than buy or not buy tickets, or donate for better facilities or leaders should not have an opinion about other programs? Perhaps it suggests there is something we can learn from them, about what we want or don’t want to do? If the last 20 years should have taught us by now, our history doesn’t matter unless we maintain it. We’ve failed to do that. We have no history.Exactly. So instead of being fixated on the machinations going on at NJSU, maybe we should worry about getting our own house in order first.
And honestly, Rutgers football, despite the blip on the screen these last few years and our worst period in our history, isn’t in the same space as SU football. They have NO history other than a Friday night game vs Louisville. We elevate them when we constantly pay attention to them, and it reveals the depth of insecurity among our fanbase to do so.
We need to worry about ourselves- we have lots of work to do. Instead some in our fanbase can’t help perpetually knob-slobbing the Rutgers football program. Baffling. JMHO
Gotcha. My bad.I say rip them to shreds. I’m a proponent of this thread. I’m just saying it’s about Rutgers, not NJ.
We elevate Rutgers to who? The posters on this board or the 5 Rutgers fans that visit once in a while.Exactly. So instead of being fixated on the machinations going on at NJSU, maybe we should worry about getting our own house in order first.

Which hallucinogens are Rutgers using this time?
no one spins more that we do----it never ceases to amaze how much fun we make of them , but they out recruit us(almost everyone does) they beat us etc etc . can we please get our own act together????Fair enough. They can spin it any way they want. Sometimes it’s about more than that. They are risking their players health in a low upside move that’s likely to backfire. That coach and program are beyond shame at this point, but integrity still stands for something.
I’m just glad, and i would hope in similar circumstances, we’d say no regardless. JMHO
Yes, because history doesn’t mean isht. Got it.BCS era
Syracuse since 1998:
125-165-0
Ranked in five years (98,99,01,18,19)
Highest ranking: 11th
Winning seasons: 7/24, 2 .500 seasons
Rutgers since 1998:
121-167-0
Ranked in four years (06,07,09,12)
Highest Ranking: 7th
Winning seasons : 8/24, 0 .500 seasons
We can talk history all we want.
Reality is last 24-25 years, BCS modern era, our programs are mirror images.
So mock away.
No recruit today cares about what happened more than 25 years ago. It has no relevance on them today.Yes, because history doesn’t mean isht. Got it.
“ROSUF” lolNo. No it does not.
Horrible and desperate look for them. Putting players health in jeopardy for the almighty dollar is not a good thing.
And for all the ROSUF (Rutgers-obsessed-SU-fans), here’s reason #2738 why we should never measure ourselves against that program. JMHO
My kids are going to be in high school in a couple years, and they have had one winning season in their memory.
RU had so many better recruiting classes thoughBCS era

We're not talking about only recruiting. A programs history comtributes to its relevance. I agree that the longer a program stays down, the less it matters, but when comparing SU to Rutgers, only using the last 25 years is arbitrary and doesn't make sense. No recruit today cares about what happened more than 25 years ago. It has no relevance on them today.
The average fan 25 years ago is long gone from Syracuse or much older.
I don't think you're thinking logically on this. 25 years man. 25 years of bleh. That's closing in on two generations. Young adults having families now that were Syracuse fans, haven't experienced sustained success. The program hasn't had sustained success since I graduated High School in 2001. My kids are going to be in high school in a couple years, and they have had one winning season in their memory.
makes perfect sense people have short memories. i am 72y/o. i have been attending games since 1960. travelled from nj and now from pa. i and many others have seen it all. su administration has been responsible for most of the issues. many of us can give a good accounting of that history including the demise of ben and pasqualoni. We're not talking about only recruiting.
