The Last Dance

I think he'd average around what Kawhi does - 5-6 threes a game. Maybe more just because he was a psycho competitor.

Easily. He did shoot nearly 3.2 a game in 96 and shot 43% from there. In 97 he shot nearly 4 a game there. I know they brought the line in those years, but in 90 and 93 he was right around 3 a game as well. It doesn't appear like he was completely against it. It just wasn't the way the game was played in that era. Most 3 point shooters were strictly specialists then.

I'll be the contrarian - I'll say Penny. He had 2x first team all NBAs. Hill only had 1x. Granted Hill had more total All NBAs though.

Penny was more of a unicorn than Grant was. 6'7" and could do it all and we had just come off a decade of Magic, seeing what a big PG could do.

I'm not sure if I believe my own argument, but you give me a 6'7" PG in Penny, there is a lot to work with there.

And I'll just say it, I think G Hill's potential is overrated.

Both these guys played during the time, imo, that the NBA was pretty weak. It was post-Bird/Magic and pre-the influx of talent we have now.

People forget that if Grant Hill’s knees don’t blow he and Tim Duncan would have teamed up in Orlando in 2000.

Duncan didn’t sign with Magic because he was worried about Hill’s health and Doc Rivers being stupid about who could go on the team plane.

I would take Hill over Penny.

Last night’s two episodes were amazing. I loved seeing the rumored talked about cocky behind the scenes Michael Jordan.

It was not his knees. That was Penny.

Hill had foot/ankle issues...

It's crazy how much of a difference the shortened 3 point line had. Like you said, in 96 and 97, Jordan took around 3.5 per game, and made, averaging the 2 years, right around 40%. line is moved back out in 98, and Jordan goes down to 1.5 per game, and makes only 24%.

In the 3 years before they moved the line in, the average team took 8.8 3's per game, and made about 33%. In the 3 years of the shorter line, they took about 13 and made 36%. Huge change. In the 3 years after they moved it back, it was down to about 13 per game, and a little over 34%. So it definitely seems like shorter line increased 3 point attempts even after they went back to the old distance.

It was his foot, not his knee.

Grant was already a top player and likely would’ve had another 5-6 seasons at that level without the injury.

Penny had more shooting range, and while Grant had point forward skills - Penny was a legit PG. I think what he could do was just a little more dynamic and higher ceiling.

“Mom and dad, your son’s an alcoholic.” Lmao.

Mike was dead wrong for that Scott Burrell scene. I’m LOVING the old footage.

I forgot about that. It also seemed like he was blowing up his spot with whatever woman he was with at the time. Absolutely cold blooded

Bill Simmons has gone from my favorite sports writer to one the laziest cliche phony sports personalities over the last 20 years.

He is so lazy and uninformed in the crap he spews these days.

I liked Bill when he first started. I still go back and read a column he wrote recapping a Battle of the Network Stars show - it was hilarious. But then he got too full of himself as he got more famous.

Is there anyone more comfortable in his own skin than mj? Sitting there drinking his 1800 grand tequila airing out everything. Not caring what anyone thinks. Such a boss move.

It cost Isiah a spot on the Dream Team.
Laimbeer lost nothing.

The Dream Team selection committee made their first 3 selections after the 1991 NBA playoffs and Jordan said if Isiah is on the team I am not.

I get why Isiah has regrets. It would burn me up forever if I got snubbed like Isiah did. Stockton took Isiah’s spot because of Isiah calling Bird just another player if he was black in 1987, disrespecting Jordan in 1991 and then basically questioning Magic’s sexuality after he got AIDS.

Isiah is like Richard Nixon.
He has some great things on his ledger but he has stains that destroy what could have an even greater legacy.

That's a good point about Isiah. It wasn't just walking off the court that caused him issues. His big mouth got him in trouble a lot. Laimbeer was just a dirty jerk. Granted I was a Celts fan but I couldn't stand those guys.

Not sure how well known this story is nationally, but if you needed any more reason to hate Isiah

That is unbelievable but honestly makes me feel bad for Isiah.
He could have been trying to kill himself and embarrassed by it tried to play it off like it was daughter.

Which is pathetic to sell out your daughter like that but comes off like he was depressed and almost ODed.

I get what you're saying, but the idea of trying to pin the blame on your 17 year old daughter. Just despicable.
