I have yet to see a video or still picture of the new scoreboard with any scores or stats on it. It looked like an extension of the ribbon/video boards. I was hoping for more extensive information about our and other games.

I was under the impression it would be used more like a video board showing live action.

I would hold off on final judgement until we can all see it live and in conjunction with everything else. Example there could be running score updates running around the dome on the banner boards. Or maybe they use the endzone scoreboards for that info. All of this is tbd until we see it live in my opinion.

why would we want to do that? :):)

When i was a kid i used to love it when the announcer at Arch would rattle scores off. Maybe thats why now our generation has a focus on getting this information in game, in stadium vs on our watch.

Why on earth would you spend all that money on a video board and use it to display text scores?

Have you ever been to any other stadium with state of the art video boards to see them used for scores for more than a few minutes during an entire game, because I haven't.

If it were up to me, I would use the ribbon scoreboards primarily to provide text based information to the fans.

Decide one side of the ribbon scoreboards to always show the basic box score stuff: first downs, time of possession, rushing yards, passing yards, completions, attempts, interceptions, turnovers, etc. Should be able to see how individual players for both teams are doing as well. Dedicate the other side to out of town scores. Yes, it is okay to sometimes show instructions to make noise, and it is okay to occasionally show ads...but no one comes to games to watch ads. The focus should always be on improving the fan experience. Wasting a great resource to endlessly show ads is foolish and an insult to the fan base. Give us reasons why we should come to the games in person.

The center hung scoreboard should be used primarily to show video feeds. Live stuff, replays of key plays, highlights of other games, interviews with players and coaches, etc. It will be great to finally be able to hear people talking on the sound system. I think it is a waste of that great resolution to show stats or out of town scores on them. Timely highlights of other games relevant to Syracuse would be cool.

I think the two endzone scoreboards also offer HD quality resolution and should therefore share the feed with the center hung scoreboard.

The scoreboard in the corner (maybe in different corners) doesn't have the same level of resolution and I think it should focus on text based info sharing: stats and OOT scores, like the ribbon scoreboards.

“Army 15 . . Penn State 55”

Does this mean we’re going to see the Spectrum weather forecast on that thing?

Then why call it a scoreboard? Obviously you can switch back and forth between videos and scores or stats- or have a running line below the video. What's the point of having the same thing on the fancy new scoreboard that's on the end zone video boards?

Daktronics : Syracuse University Debuts the Largest Centerhung in College Sports

'We did not start out with the goal of building one of the largest centerhung systems in the world, but the more we talked through it with the team, the more we realized that we could accomplish something very special while still remaining within the project budget. Besides the new centerhung, there are new high-resolution end zone displays to enhance the viewing experience in the building.'

Cool. So they have new scoreboards in all 4 corners, as well as the end zones, and all have 10 mm line spacing. Better than expected! Kudos!

Now, please let me come inside to look at all this wonderful stuff.

Why not see how it is used first.

"Meh".
- some SyracuseFan posters (you know the ones). Almost guaranteed.

It sounds like a complicated high-tech system. I hope they hire a professional to operate it and not some Newhouse freshman.

Doesn't exactly sound like SU had this cobbled together on the cheap, as many posters keep lamenting.

Perhaps this post needs a fact check similar to the slew of misinformation spewed during last night's train wreck presidential debate. ;) Where are these "many posters" that "keep lamenting" specifically regarding the center hung scoreboard being "on the cheap" as you allege?

I've commented on the architectural/aesthetic nature of the roof structure itself and how, in my opinion, is quite unattractive, but so what. It's just an opinion, and shouldn't in any way be controversial, let alone perceived/deemed offensive as some here have expressed by their seemingly snide remarks.

I actually don't call it a scoreboard. I call it a videoboard. But I guess people may do that out of habit/tradition the same way that every tissue gets called a kleenex by some.
A better question is why waste the best and most viewable screens in the building on something that can be put somewhere else? If I'm in the nosebleeds or opposite endzone from the action I'd like to see on the screen what is going on rather than see stats that I can pull up on my phone.

they really just need someone who actually cares about sports helping them figure out what to display. great in can do in game replays but that doesnt mean just do that 1 thing all game long.. pre-game show other games half time show other games or replay highlights.. Out of town scores should be on way more because it builds buzz and fills dead time. stats should also be more than some random "hey look the punter has punted for 285 yds today"
