Tourney Selection Show Observations

LOL UCLA at 42 is a joke.

Look at Providence's resume and Georgetown's and yet one is a 4 seed and the other is a 6 seed.

I had Georgetown as the 4th best team in the Big East -- a 7 seed. The matrix had them as a 6.

Yeah I mean I saw no difference between Butler, Georgetown, and Providence. Providence swept Georgetown, Georgetown beat Butler 2 of 3, and Butler split with Providence. I just don't get that logic. I guess Utah losing to Oregon knocked them down from a 5 to 4. If Utah were the 4 and Gtown the 5 atleast that could have made sense.

other than ucla inclusion the committee did a good job selecting teams

I tend to disagree a bit. Colorado St and Temple were both clearly better picks then BYU in my view.

BYU had a bad resume
4-6 vs top 100
1 top 50 win
3 bad losses.

The win at Gonzaga was huge. But it's not enough by itself to get you in.

Sure Colorado St was missing that Gonzaga game, but they were 5-5 vs top 100, and only had 1 bad loss. 2 top 50 wins. It's not overwhelming, but it's easily separable from BYU IMO. I have never seen a committee seemingly judgmentally ignore bad losses like this one.

Ole Miss had 4 bad losses. 4!!! How many bad losses are some of these teams allowed?

If bad losses didn't matter, might as well included Old Dominion. They got eliminated because they had 5 bad losses.

But they were 6-2 vs top 100, including OOC wins vs VCU, LSU, and Georgia St (a 13 seed), and Richmond (a solid NIT Team).

I think Jay Bilas really frustrates Dickie V. He will actually dispute Vitale if he thinks he's wrong when he is going on one of his rants about who got snubbed during the selection show. It was Murray State this year.

I don't even know why they bother publishing these lists. When you move a team for travel reasons then show it -- that is the whole purporse of the list. They admitted some lower seeded teams would be moved of the s-curve for travel from time to time and then they don't bother showing it.

It's pretty obvious to anyobdy that compared resumes that Eastern Washington was not a 13 seed. Just like Montana was not a 13 seed a few years ago and we benefitted from it. All the Western Pods were to host 13 or 15 seeds... so you moved them around. That was what you said you might do... just ng admit you did it.

LOL you mean like this when Bilas just went right after Vitale and gave up. Murray State should take guarantee games and play tougher teams. They honestly didn't have the wins to justify being close to the bubble.

They also have to account for the BYU no play on Sunday rule.

I think we can agree most people had someone clearly over UCLA!!

Ghost's lock for the tourney this year:

UCLA is on fire - Final Four all day!

I was just looking up how they closed the year and it's a no doubter.

6-4 in the last 10? That is fire!

Destroying USC for 2 of their last 2 wins to close out the year? FIRE!

Before that they took down not one, but both of the Washington schools! Oooooooh, no they didn't, you say? Yup, they did.

4 of those 6 wins in their last 10 against the bottom three teams in the Pac-12. Bet the house, they're looking good, F4 for sure.

Think we would have been a lock if we won 2 games in Greensboro; hell, even 1 win in Greensboro puts us on the cusp.

Wonder if wins vs. @ND, Louisville and Iowa would have been enough.

The largest deviations from the consensus on the Bracket Matrix:

Georgetown 4 seed vs 6 seed
Xavier 6 seed vs 8 seed
Wichits St 7 seed vs 5 seed
Dayton 11 seed vs 9 seed

Colorado St - Out (88 in out of 96)
Temple Out (85 in out of 96)

UCLA - IN (17 in out of 96)

They also have to account for the BYU no play on Sunday rule.

I haven't checked if they did correctly yet. I would have forced BYU to play Dayton. BYU screws with the bracket makers all the time because of the can't play on Sunday rule... and if you do a bracket sometimes you have to move many teams because of it.

Because of that it should be BYU that was forced to play Dayton, not Boise.

I doubt it with only 1 win in the ACC which would have been a meaningless game. A quality victory in round 2 against a tourney team would have helped.

Sure if you just compare us to UCLA then maybe. But there are half a dozen teams on the outside that think they have as good a resume as UCLA.

byu is in safe place for no play on sunday

I suspected so. My point was that since BYU caused some issues in the past, they should be the one that suffers from Dayton's placement as a play in team. Make sure that game was on Tuesday.

Duke has a cakewalk to the elite 8.

8 - San Diego St has been sliding in recent weeks because they can't score. The teams that have taken out Duke in the past year's Lehigh and Mercer were able to go basket for basket with Duke.

9 - St. John's sat Obekpa

4 - Georgetown - Enough Said

5 - Utah - They are also on bit of a slide, and overseeded by a line.

I don't see how Dook got a walk. Utah is the only good 4/5 seed other than N. Iowa.
UVA got hosed pretty good; Sparty & OU just to get to the E8, ouch.

Utah isn't that good there ok

I don't buy the committees UCLA argument. Seems fishy to me. "gaining steam"? 4-3 down the stretch with zero good wins is gaining steam?
