UNH post game

We're not going to be a good rebounding team. Especially without Benny and with Brown not 100%.
We're not going to be a good 3PT team either:

FG 28-67 41.8%, 3PT 5-21 23.8%, FT 22-27 81.5% We are looking good at the line.

i think there was a bit of panic that set in...first game stage fright for a new staff and regime...and it trickled down throughout the team.

unfortunately, the team needs shooters but the shooters dont offer enough besides shooting...a bit of a conundrum.

the coaches need to figure out the half court offense...here's a tip: try to make assists!

in other words, 1 on 1 bad, buckets off of passes good.

on another note, I like Cuffe and hope his role expands.

I'm trying to be positive internally so I can be optimistic as long as possible. I'm also trying to not be too hard on Red until I see how he adjusts game-to-game through the first month or so. But tonight was a little concerning in a handful of areas.

I don't think Benny is a lights out shooter or anything but he better get his head out of his ass because we need his floor spacing. If he isn't playing by next week I will be very worried about this season.

The patience needs to be in him getting a roster full of the guys he needs. He's getting his first chance to see a lot of guys in bigger roles and then get to work on molding them.

He's already recruited well for '24. We are going to find how who's willing to be coached and get better and who isn't this year.

Did Quadir really get 13 rebounds?
He was all over the floor, the usual stat stuffer. I thought Red forced too many minutes with him as primary ball handler, teaching moments for Judah I suppose, and QC flat out dissed JT on some otherwise open looks a few times tonight. He needs to develop a repoir with the best player or he's going to try to do too much himself. Stay in the flow Qadir.

Biggest stat for me we came out winded in the second half and tried to blow them out shooting within 7 seconds of the shot clock and we missed a lot and got punished on defense. Whether it was because UNH made adjustments late in the first or not, Idk.

My biggest concern is rebounding, we’ve heard our entire lifetimes Syracuse wasn’t a good rebounding team because of how difficult it is to rebound out of a zone. What’s the excuse now? We have to crash the glass. If this team is going to struggle shooting early on we have to limit the 2nd chance points. Rebounding has to be pounded in practice.
It's tough to collect offensive rebounds when you're playing 5 out on offense.
Even though there are plenty to be gathered because the team doesn't shoot well.

Crazy overreactions here, give them some time, have to learn to go for 40. Outside shooting will be a problem obviously, Have to find ways to overcome that .
I am as worried about hoop IQ as I am about 3 pt shooting. And I am really worried about 3 pt shooting. A lot of good athletes. No doubt about that.

Hopefully, he will be back sooner rather than later.

He's probably the closest thing to a true PG this team has on the roster and it showed tonight once we got up big and guys got overconfident.

Copeland is still a bit rough around the edges...but if you're going to pick troublesome points from the UNH game...he'd be faaar down my list.
I hated the two 3 's he took and when he took them. Plus, he is still too careless with the ball. Talent, no doubt. But those two things are troublesome.

Mintz was 5-15 and Starling was 3-13. Hopefully, they can improve on that because I can't imagine that flying in ACC play.
Neither can shoot a lick from outside going to be difficult to play them both at the same time in the ACC. ESPN says they are both 6 4 but man they look much shorter than that. Taylor is 6 6 but looks like he towers over them and he looks like he’s bulked up too. He’s got to play more and shoot more. The ball hogging guards chucking up 3s is not a winning formula against better teams

Especially strange that he get run once they committed to full zone.
id guess the coaches thought to use players who played the zone last year when they went to zone...esp with the small size of unh...brown over mcleod makes sense...

(although i get what youre saying, naheem seems a dream center for zone d)

100%. But there is enough talent on this roster where it is fair to expect us to be playing in the NCAA Tournament.

It's going to be a bumpy ride but if Red is a competent coach and we stay healthy, I think we can be a very scary team by the time the calendar flips. But there is a long, long way to go.

I am very excited to see what Wednesday night looks like. I hope there are some noticeable changes.
