Virginia Gameday...

Brutal last few weeks for Hop
I think part of it is that Michigan and Rutgers are getting better and Hopkins may have been overrated but Melendez being out has really hurt them. Ohio State didn't dominate Rutgers today and Michigan looks they're better than everyone thought. There seems to be less separation among teams this year - Big10, ACC the two best with Ivy close but Yale, Brown, Penn weak links. Dartmouth is finally out of the wilderness. Duke and UVA have definitely taken a step back and I'm loving it. They were so tough to play in 2019-21 when we had some pieces.

Based on what I've seen so far, Cuse has a legit sniff at the final four. Cornell and Notre Dame will really be true benchmarks for where we stand over the next 2 weeks.

We started Payton today because we thought he could handle a pole and dodge and make some plays. In the past these guys have traditionally shorted one of our attack players and kind of taken us a little bit out of our offense so the idea was to put Payton in there so if they wanted to short him he was going to Green Light to the net all day.

Don't think it was Harvard but your right it absolutely happened another Game, maybe Towson? He fought through it but definitely something to keep an eye on. Bigger concern is the lack of depth. Drew Angelo has not looked good the last few games. Need him to be better. Cuse may need to hit the portal for a backup Fogo we don't have one in this coming class.
Yup totally agree gotta have somebody on deck if this happens

I've changed my mind on Cornell - they haven't proven themselves yet as haven't had a very tough schedule imo.

I think your selling Spallina short. Yes he's struggled against elite poles but keep in mind he is drawing each teams best defender which is freeing up our other attackmen especially whoever is drawing that 3rd pole. Spallina playing with a truly great dodging threat I think would open up his game which is why I've been begging to get Anderson extended run.

I do think that when Thomson comes back he and Anderson should split time between attack and the 2nd midline. Anderson is to good not to play
I understand. I’m sure you’re right. We just desperately need an attackman who can dodge and finish, and Anderson checks those boxes. Regardless, great win, congrats to the team, and, most importantly, we got ourselves a goalie! McCool has been incredible these last 2 games, like All American good! The final four drought needs to end this year!

From the PC sounds like we can expect a lot more of Anderson, I'd be shocked if he didn't start next week at attack (assuming Thomson remains out).

Where does Fin fit back in? I like Spallina, Hiltz and Anderson at attack. I want to see the first line remain intact. Second line mids should be Thomson, Deere and Hottle.

I’d like to see our defense stay with their matchups and not get caught up on switches. Its amazing how Joeys cover never switches off him.
It does get frustrating to see that time and time again, and I’d love to see us on the hands of shooters more as we seem to love to give away time and room shots from up top

I think keeping Anderson at attack and putting Finn on the first mid line so him and English can work the two man game like they did last year. Rhoa is too good to be a second line mid but I think he’d get more opportunities with a second line of him Deere and hottle. Also feel like Rhoa and Deere could develop a two man game like Finn and English do

The money shot...

Kind of funny we’ve gone from calling for Gait to be fired, to this in the span of 30 minutes of game time. Sports are funny.
Some of us are entirely happy with the program's progress, and the pace of that progression. Realistically, it takes time to go from where we were to where we are now,.

Does anyone know why Tucker Kellogg doesn't get playing time? He's got a monster shot and feels like he could make an impact on the second line.

I was saying that the other day, our MTM is pretty good but when we slide we lose players in the worst place to lose them. (Right in front, 5-10 yards out). But it is extremely rare when our players get an open shot in front of the goal unless it’s a cutter getting the feed from Spallina. Other teams have defended us very well there. Yesterday Anderson had one and Leo had one after his fake. But those are few and far between.

hopefully Anderson can help with that.

Quite the game of streaks.
UVA played better than I expected.

Hoping the Orange keep improving.
A Final Four appearance would be great.

Agreed. It's so hard to evaluate coaches when you're not on the field, in practices, coaches meetings etc. For what it's worth, I think coaches can only be graded over a longer period of time with a variety of talent levels and assistant coaches. It's hard to argue that Cuse doesn't have the talent right now which is why expectations are high. It also doesn't hurt that 2 of our arch rivals Duke and UVA are "struggling" for the first time in years. Gait's coaching image is very hands off - I'm not an insider so don't know if that's really true. If so, Odierna and March are the guys who really should be praised or dissed.

nice post presser lord tyrion. .

If Deskos recruits wanna championship it will have nothing to do with Gait. Guy is complete garbage.
