We need to go 12-6 in ACC Play

I still think that in "theory" an 11-7 Syracuse season could be enough (on the bubble line). Or it may not be enough.

I'll worry about it if we can actually start showing we can get to 11-7. I don't believe we do right mow,

We're going to be in just about every game. We've been in every game minus one half of ISU. This isn't last season. If the second half of Donnie is any indication we have an absolute horse out there.

I hope Red was lying through his teeth last night with his presser. 34 minutes of JJ isn't a serious option. Staff goes out and gets a good roster but...JJ kills enough possessions to be the difference in W/L. I hate picking on a guy but it's beyond obvious.

JJ is average 31 minutes/game this year (excluding his 3 minute stint pre-injury in the Binghamton game).

34 last night wasn't an aberration, it was by design.

Red wasn't lying. JJ is his #2, right behind Freeman.

Seems like Red is in the process of burying Anthony. The guy who got 22 mins/game in Vegas has played just 12 and 15 the past 2 games.

The problem isn't Starling. The problem is that Red sees him as a 32+ minute/game guy who is our #2 scoring option. That ain't going away. That's the guy who should be picked on.

Betsy and Kiyan got 31 minutes and 15? points. Agree Red is pushing JJ to be something he's not. Doesn't excuse such unforced turnovers.

Betsey should have been in at the end of the game when we needed a 3. Would have likely required moving Kingz to the 2 which would be like an act of Congress around here.

Agree completely.

I'm not excusing his turnovers. It's that Starling is the same guy he was when he got here 3 seasons ago. He's never had an outside shot, never played great D, and always played loose and sloppy.

Yet Red still gives him 31+ minutes a game as if he's one of our great 3-level scoring, 2-way players of old.

After watching yesterday's game it became abundantly clear to me that this is all on Red at this point. All the excuses are out the window, IMHO. We hit our FTs, got a productive Donnie back, and we still found a way to lose. This coaching staff is awful.

Red's the guy that keeps him in so yes, agree. This isn't last season, the team has plenty of options.

There would be some sort of perverse interest in watching a JB presser after a game like we had yesterday.

Both coaches that JJ has played for in college will have been fired.

Our next 4 opponents are junk:

GT = 162 NET
Pitt = 112
BC = 180
FSU = 123

Lose any of those and I'd say the season is effectively over.
Yea they need almost everything in January. The team has yet to play multiple games in a row of solid basketball. They play 8 games in 25 games, 3 on the road out of the next 4. Always a slim possibility that with so much talent on the court something shakes loose and the players just decide to win. Hell they don't really listen to Autry anyway on offense, likely cuz he's not coaching an offense but just based on them airing up terrible shots. We saw Donnie be the alpha late finally.

I'm not changing my tune unless they somehow come out of January with 7 or more wins, but still a long road. They will be favored or tossups in 5 games I think and dogs in 3 (VT/Miami/NCSt), but at the same time 2 of these are at home. Not unheard of for other programs, but a longshot for SU in the ACC.

Everything you said with Autry/JJ is spot on.

My take is that Autry is just a very one dimensional and stubborn coach, he see's a scouting report that there are starting Sr guards on the other team and Freshman Guards rotating in. He's automatically going with JJ no matter how bad he is playing and then he's bringing in Kiyan when the younger bench guards rotate in.

Honestly Kiyan isn't strong enough yet to win on both ends against Senior guards that are more physical so there is some merit to that thought process to start the game, but once the game is rolling he needs to adjust. We've seen time and again JJ space out, really all our guards.

The big difference in my mind though is that a Freshman like Kiyan getting the ball ripped away in the lane or taking a wild shot or not finishing does not derail the team the same way as when JJ dribbles the ball off his foot or misses a terrible shot. Kiyan is not the answer but JJ's mins and shots need to get dispersed to Kiyan and Betsey so they can at least try to make a play. Not even going to talk about George because if he plays like he's been playing we're sunk no matter what.

There is so much momentum given to the other team when your Seniors and Point Guards make dumb plays.

Correct and we may need a couple of blowout wins in the next 4. 15+ point win. I can’t wait for the you still want to fire red posts after the next 4 games.

I think we are gonna struggle to go 6-12 in ACC play, sadly...

But who knows?? Mebbs Freeman's second half yesterday is the start of something and he puts this team on his back on sheer will and talent to overcome our offensive deficiencies and lack of effective schemes?? Hope is a fickle gutter slut, tho.

Win probabilities per Barttorvik for the next 4 games

A Tech 57%
A Pitt 43%
H Florida St 77%
A BC 68%

Those %'s seem a little low. The above would imply we have about a 13% chance of going 4-0 the next 4 games... I think its a little bit higher than that, but its certainly less than 40%.

When you are average (like Syracuse) running 3 straight conference road games is not easy no matter the opponent.

All conference road wins are good wins.
