We shouldn’t care who leaves as long as the staff reloads

I'll bet you we could find 5 or 10 guys in the portal who are coming from a pretty good team where they were the star player, where they could beat out Joe Girard at PG. Guys who are looking to move up a level, like Eli or Andrew White. (Obviously neither of them are PGs, but equivalent players are out there in numbers this year.)
I hope you are right. If we lose guys I would love for us to retool better.

Just the recent results of somewhat underwhelming recruiting makes me think it isnt definitely happening.

I think that person would have to be pretty exceptional to supplant joe though. JB stubbornness is strong.

not to knock these guys personally but i am nowhere near invested in the transfers as the program guys. hey players like wes who came and sat yes. players like gillon , griffin or white3 ? no.
(although i don't think i dislike allen griffin as much as JB does these past few weeks)

Doesn’t Gillon come back most years to play for Boeheim’s Army?

It’s out of our control, not worth the worry.

And the rule is they can only transfer 1 time, right? I think the volume will die down as life goes on. This year will be the worst of it.

One free transfer without needing a waiver.

Next transfer and you'll sit a year.

We will be appalled at the guys we are losing...then enthralled with the guys we are getting.

I agree. I don't want him to leave, and if he stays I want him to start over Joe.

But if Kadary doesn't think JB will give him the starting job and he leaves, I can't say I blame him.

But I also think we can find someone better who can still move Joe to the third guard.
It’s been repeated on here that if KR leaves, it’s not about basketball.

Why? Everyone else associated with the college and with the team gets to move on whenever they want to, without sanctions, but not players?

LOL more recently, there is also Leron Ellis, Ryan Blackwell, and i'm sure guys I ma not thinking of

Michael Lloyd, Jason Cipolla (both JUCO - not sure if that is the same).

I would say our success in the transfer market is mixed at best. Hughes and AW3 were great but also ended up with chewy, gillon, Thorpe and AG. Not that they were all bad (besides Thorpe). Just rotational guys.
Do we really have that much confidence in getting big time transfers given our track record lately in recruiting?
chewy was a nice pickup, griff was great early this year for us.

I'm disappointed when good players leave, especially if they haven't lit the world on fire while they were here. Seeing unrealized potential walk out the door so often and having to get to know rosters that change so much has definitely reduced my interest.

I get it, the players have the right to do what they think is right for them and owe me nothing. At the same time, if I feel less of a connection to the team and the "product" is watered down, I don't owe the sport, players, or team anything either.

Good post. Sums up my position perfectly.

I think the bgger point is that SU has gained more from transfers than they lost with guys transferring out. Way more.
I think to be fair, they ran out of ships after they stole our guy. It was almost like a trade.
When it comex to UConn, nothing needs to be fair.

If players have to sit a year then coaches who buy out contracts to move on can't take recruits with them. Or accept players from their former schools which is now a real possibility with the new transfer rules.

Like isolating kids off campus, for up to 3 weeks, so they can play basketball, during a pandemic?

say it louder to the people complaining about this years transfer debacle understand it better.

THERE WASNT GOING TO BE A SEASON DURING A GLOBAL PANDEMIC IF THE PLAYERS OPTED OUT SO THEY THREW THEM THIS BONE

Like many things the NCAA does, this is messed up! Unfortunately since the college & university Presidents vote, they are the ultimate source of the problems. As long as the money coming in looks good to them; they seem to just ignore the issues being created by a feckless staff!

The portal is great for the players, but terrible for the fans. Could not imagine being a fan of a mid major and seeing your best player enter the portal to go to Michigan State or Kentucky.
Was watching one of the games last night and it seemed like half the kids on Oregon came from a mid-major.

It definitely sucks but I think continuity is more important than having a star player for mid-majors. Having a coach committed to the school that recruits dudes that fit the system and will want to be there for 4/5 years usually outweighs a single kid like Tyson Walker who left Northeastern for MSU or that damn Tre Mitchell.

It's a different story if that one kid is the difference between just competing for conference title or being an at-large bid but those instances are so rare.

Boo Hoo. They are going to college for free they are celebrities in this town all athletic and academic resources available to them.

Is that really what happened? Based on what JB said about the Ivy league and about his son, I think most players wanted to play. Saying this was simply a money grab by the NCAA is oversimplifying things.
