Western Michigan Attendance guesses

30. I don't see much of an improvement over last week. It was sparse. Maybe because it was LDW and the State Fair.

Probably, and I hate to say it, but a big driver of September performance is the opponent and the fact that it's the last few Saturdays of great weather in UNY. I will not be there this weekend due to a family commitment. I probably will only make the 3 ACC games in the dome this year.

There's tix for less than 10 bucks available on seatgeek. I'll never understand how those don't move.

We sit in the upper deck and my cousin and his girlfriend joined us for the game last week. He said, you know, there isn't a bad seat in the house. And with $7 tickets and a TV blackout for most, that statement rings even more true.

This really is true, and it's not true in all stadiums. In many stadiums, higher seats you feel very disconnected from the action. You may have sun glare, wind. You may NEED to watch the video screen in REAL TIME to see what is going on at all. The Dome isn't like that. Even back row tier 3, you can, for the most part, clearly see the action on the field, and the sound in the Dome (talking about the crowd noise less than the PA) envelopes you to make you feel part of it.

Their are a few reasons but they all involve getting the casual fan to pull the trigger. SU coming into the year had a good buzz on this board but really no where else. So your not getting that 2019 hype after the 10 win 2018 season. Secondly as someone else pointed out, no name opponents early in the year are usually a death sentence for attendance. Look at least year, a 4-0 SU team with a few real nice wins had like 15K for Wagner. The end of the fair and the forecasted iffy weather could push another 1-2,5K to the gate but the majority of casuals probably aren't going to be serious about attending until Army at the earliest and probably really Clemson.

Even back row in the corner doesn’t make you feel cheated out of the game experience. You still feel like you’ve got pretty good seats.

Syracuse fans have not consistently filled the Dome since the 90s when the team was, consistently good. In some college markets it may, but in Syracuse at least, the tail doesn't seem able to wag the dog.

I think it's smart for SU to do all it can to get fans in seats. Social, promos, etc. But I think that we are talking about drips and drabs insofar as upticks unless and until the team begins stringing together multiple winning seasons and bowl appearances in a row. Not saying I endorse this viewpoint, it's just what I think is the reality.

Thanks but the same narrative over and over. My point is you can go for less than 15 bucks.

We brought 13 people who normally don't go to the games with us last week because the tickets were so cheap, it was a no brainer. All of them were amazed at what a good time they had tailgating and taking part in the game (even if it was a blow out). 7 of them are coming back again this week.

I think the fact that tickets are dirt cheap is pretty clear, my point was for most casuals who aren't going ticket cost is pretty much irrelevant.
Exactly. Unless and until the team becomes consistently good again...I'm talking to a point where 8 wins is the norm and we are occasionally competing for conference titles...attendance will never be consistently high because casuals wont care.

I hear stories like this on this forum all the time. SU would be smart to take this idea and reward people who bring new people to games somehow. Person could get a pin they use to purchase multiple tickets that break from the norm of their normal ticket purchases. Then if anyone in that group purchased season tix the “influencer” gets discounts from their tix or special merchandise only made for people getting their friends to games.

Like last season the casuals are waiting to see if we’re for real… Army will go up some and Clemson will sell out …. despite last Monday.

The casuals might not even know they lost Monday. If we can keep Clemsons record hidden the week of the game, some casuals might think they're still a top 5 team.

34,377 at kickoff
And…
34,379 when we get there at the end of the first quarter!

I'll say 36k announced. If I were the marketing department, I'd be all over the Spectrum ESPN issue and be really pushing that in advertising this week. But im not so what do I know. Just win
SU athletics being proactive?

Theres got to be some marketing effort.

But I hear SU does all it can and traditional marketing is a waste of time!!
