Mike Waters is great. We are lucky to have him. Everyone knows Red is gone. There is no benefit to Waters saying anything about it other than what he did.
Hofstra is projected as a seeded NIT participant. SU is still projected as a possible NIT participant but I doubt that will last given the likely outcome of the remaining games and I imagine/hope SU would decline an invite. Then again maybe I missed your sarcasm font. When the season over. Also it depends if Syracuse accepts NIT bid.
I hope the NIT isn’t considered meaningful games in MarchWhen the season over. Also it depends if Syracuse accepts NIT bid.
Because half the team doesn’t even want to play out the regular season.I would expect SU to accept an NIT invitation. Why would we not? At least let the players play in one more event before it is all blown up.

This is true even if they get an NIT invite. There’s zero reason for him to be part of the team moving forward. Happens all the time with college football. He should resign, to avoid having the University fire him.
Win-win.
Not a chance, especially if they expect us to host a game at the Dome.I would expect SU to accept an NIT invitation. Why would we not? At least let the players play in one more event before it is all blown up.
We didn't play in the NIT in Red's first season with a roster full of freshmen and sophomores. Ironically, his most together team and the team with the best culture was last year's team. They just weren't good and it took them way too long to start playing decent basketball. When they decided to slow the game down they became a better team. If they played the way they did in February from November-January they could've made the NIT and I think they would've accepted the bid.Because half the team doesn’t even want to play out the regular season.
I think it's a safe bet he already knows his fate.He should resign, to avoid having the University fire him.
Win-win.
If they fire red before it and new coach comes on board (Hopkins) maybe worth seeing the test drive no?Not a chance, especially if they expect us to host a game at the Dome.
Ticket sales would be abysmal and SU would lose money by opening the doors.
Or they just announce they’re hiring Buddy from CBAI think it's a safe bet he already knows his fate.
In a recent interview Red talked about how being the HC at SU "was an honor of a lifetime." I feel for the guy. He gave everything he had and it didn't work out. I suspect and hope that Red will coach to the end of the very last game with his head held up and let the chips inevitably fall. The university will thank him for his service and dedication followed by an announcement that a national search is under way.
There isn't a universe anywhere where this would make sense. If they fire red before it and new coach comes on board (Hopkins) maybe worth seeing the test drive no?

Obviously the ACCT leaves room for some weirdness (I truly think he would need to win the ACCT and go on and win a Natty for Syracuse to change it's mind on the obvious, we have two other recent examples where an unexpected run didn't signal a change in program trajectory), but I hope at the last home game for Red, there was a way for fans to pay the appreciation for his service. Some signs and a standing ovation for him win or lose at the end of the game. For where the program was when he got the job to now, I truly believe he made Syracuse better off the court and will set up the next coach (Hodgson hopefully) for better success because of it. For Red, I'm rooting for him whether that is going to a lower level and somehow working his way back up (it would be a cool story, as long as Syracuse is also succeeding) or being a high major assistant again. Truly a great guy and I hope we get to a point where he can be a basketball alumni that will be welcomed with open arms in the dome again.I think it's a safe bet he already knows his fate.

Agree it seems like that would be beating a dead horseBecause half the team doesn’t even want to play out the regular season.
Red will always be respected for his playing career and his years of dedication to SU basketball. No reason to worry about being welcomed in the Dome.Obviously the ACCT leaves room for some weirdness (I truly think he would need to win the ACCT and go on and win a Natty for Syracuse to change it's mind on the obvious, we have two other recent examples where an unexpected run didn't signal a change in program trajectory), but I hope at the last home game for Red, there was a way for fans to pay the appreciation for his service. I hear you RF. I always keep in mind - Red didn’t hire himselfI'm not "mad" at Red. Loved him as a player, appreciate all of his contributions to the program as a coach.
He was put in a tough position, and granted a role he showed little-to-no apptitude for prior to being handed the head coaching job.
Him getting the position in the first place was misguided, given his lackluster credentials and the fact that our basketball program had slipped several notches. We needed a proven commodity, not someone who [best case scenario] would require on-the-job training.
There was nothing in his background or the team's performance to indicate that he had a master of X's and O's, that he was coveted by other teams, or that he excelled at teaching the game. Quite the contrary, in fact -- given the product we were seeing on the court. These should have been red flags, given that Red was one of the architects of the program's slippage over Boeheim's final years.
But alas, all of that was ignored due to overreach from certain BoT members and donors, who valued relational considerations over what was best for the program, and steered the search to an unqualified candidate.
Hopefully, he can step away and have the negative sentiment die down, and that eventually the fanbase will come to view him favorably again.
But this was destined to fail from the beginning. It's really too bad.
Do you really want to drag this out any longer? At this point in the year, the sooner we officially start the search, the better.I would expect SU to accept an NIT invitation. Why would we not? At least let the players play in one more event before it is all blown up.
This is scarily the exact sentiment currently being leveraged for Hop. We're going to get a clear-cut answer if this AD has learned anything. But alas, all of that was ignored due to overreach from certain BoT members and donors, who valued relational considerations over what was best for the program, and steered the search to an unqualified candidate.
Day after the season is over if a new coach is lined up the day the season is over so AD can address the teamMike Waters is great. We are lucky to have him. Everyone knows Red is gone. There is no benefit to Waters saying anything about it other than what he did.
That's so sad...He took down his big SU flag outside his house. Feel for him. Guy loves SU but that had to hurt because sometimes it’s the small things that make a big impact on ya
