When Benny finally figures it out…

You are certifiably riled up(!). From year 1 to year 2, Battle went from being Option 4 as a frosh to Option 1 as a sophomore. So he learned the roles and responsibilities that came with that. He also learned to play some point guard along the way, which he did not do as a freshman. Remember, Howard Washington was the third guard for Tyus' second season and Jalen Carey struggled his final year in the program.

I loved Tyus' time with the program and, yes, he was a remarkably consistent player. I don't think anyone could have made him a 24-25ppg guy, unless he went to a program and became Option 1, 2 and 3 all in one. Did you want more/better passing? His Asst/G went up every season, but truthfully, I wanted him scoring (those teams struggled with points). I'd guess you are hung up on his 3pt%, which declined during his time at SU. If so, that's fine. But Tyus was never a shooter, per se, he was a scorer, a slasher, a defender and yes, if open, he could hit a 3 for you..

As for your initial point on Benny and the blame and shame that should come with that, remember, your own scouting skills could use some polish. You spent 9 long, loud months telling everyone here that E.Hughes was a wasted scholarship. Is that not true?
You make it like I don’t admit when i am wrong.
When a poster says you are dumb at a poster because they disagree with a take and doesn’t actually provide any analysis because they are lazy i lose my chit.

Atleast Cous explains what he believes.
I lost my chit because the poster couldn’t do anything but attack.

I backup everything i say even if you disagree. I am sure i can find plenty you got wrong. I don’t care if i get stuff I will own it. I also said we would struggle the entire offseason because i said we lack was necessary of a complete team. Do i dunk on that? No because I didn’t want to be true but i say what i think.

I am sick of the status quo. I am going to make opinions based on what i see. If somebody wants to take a shot at Benny i will take a shot at the person paid.

Pretty simple. This program is trending down and if a couple wins in March are all that matter then just admit the standards are down.
They won’t. They will pretend people are haters when they aren’t.

The fanbase is like politics. Some loyal to a degree I won’t be specific out of respect. Others want to be better. Politicians stay too long as well.

If there was an expiration date the temperature would cool. If the arrogance was gone it would cool.
Go watch JB towards Donna D after Saturday’s game.

I like and respect JB but if we are only allowed to have one opinion and its getting there then the frustration boils again.

Benny was either mis-evaluated or the coaching hasn’t unleashed his potential.

It’s not just the kids fault.

That’s the thing. There does not have to be “fault,” for Benny or the program. There is simply a reality in place. Benny has largely struggled as a freshman, but while he has a great deal of potential, it is unlikely it will be unlocked this season. There is zero shame in that. There is, however, a great story that can come from it in the coming years if he does take that step forward. It’s happened for so many players to come through this program. Hakim, D-Nic, Sherman, Shumpert, Etan, David Johnson, Rony. A.Griffin, Damone Brown, Elijah, K.Joseph, Buddy is an example, too.

I think Benny has progressed to the point where he can become an important contributor on this team. With his athletic ability he can lock down one section of the zone allowing JE to cheat to the other side making the defense much stronger. In order for this to happen, Benny has to score or his net is going to be lower than James or Cole. He just needs to see the ball go down and that will give him a huge boost in confidence.

Why? Because he may have realized that he is not high major talent and needs to retreat to a lower level. This is not my prediction, but he has shown very little potential this season.
Yes…because halfway through his freshman year playing high-major basketball, he’s ready to give up on himself and walk away. Makes perfect sense. #Silly

And Fab Melo.

#11 Nate Bittle Ore
#12 Peyton Watson UCLA
#16 Hunter Salis Gonz
#19 Daimon Collins Kent
#21 BHH Tenn
#31 Jaulon Tyson Tex
#33 Bryce Hopkins Kent

all players averaging less than 6 points per game - all less than 15 minutes per night most less than 10

Oregon: NR, 15-7, 9-3 in conference, they have four centers on their roster it looks like.
UCLA: #3
Gonzaga: #2
Kentucky: #5
Tennessee: #22
Texas: #23
Kentucky: #5

Not sure that list is saying what you think it says. We're 12-11. We aren't deep at forward.

Not saying Benny should or shouldn't be playing, but that list isn't what I'd use for my argument.

So you are saying Sallis sitting behind a Sr PG that was 6th man of the year in conference sitting behind nba draft pick Suggs on the #2 team in the country is not the same as Benny sitting behind an all Ivy league honorable mention player who sat out last year?

come on now.

I am thinking Benny is on the same trajectory that Jesse was on last year where late in the season he really put it together. This next 4 games I expect him to bounce to the upside.

#1 2023 player in the country reclassifies and is eligible to play this semester. But Calipari says he’s not ready to get on the court yet even though he will never use all four years of eligibility. Kentucky fans aren’t happy. They think he’ll never play for them and go to the NBA instead. If he didn’t reclassify then he wouldn’t be eligible for the NBA this coming draft and would play next year at Kentucky.

What does this have to do with us?

Are you talking about the #5 team in the country that already is laden with talent?

You are comparing apples and candy canes.

Braswell might've helped too. Would help put less pressure on Benny to produce quickly and just focus on getting better
Rather surprised with Bras. He has long had the leg issues but took a step down with the transfer to Charlotte, is a starter, but is only scoring about 9 ppg and grabbing fewer than 2 boards per game. I really felt that he would blossom at that level if his legs held up. His rebounding stat is especially surprising.

He's shooting really well, and 9 points in 22 minutes per game isn't bad, but his rebounding numbers have really dropped off from what he did here.

He was a perfect zone defender and weak side rebounder because he could just use his length. no idea what D Charlotte plays, but wouldn’t shock me if his decline was moving to m2m.

Could be. He was never a great rebounder at SU (6 or 7 per 40 minutes), but 3 per 40 is pretty low for a guy with his size and skills.

Red Bruin was Jim's first huge recruit. His first year was not very memorable. Yes that 79 team was stacked talent wise but I still have the magazine where boeheim said he was their best recruit since Dave Bing. Red ended up having a fine career but he sure looked lost when he first got here.

He can be a nice guy off the court, but he has to get the mentality of a dog while on the court. I want to see him sprint up the floor to get to both offense and defense. Keep those arms up on defense and cover the floor. On offense, keep your hands ready and keep moving. Set picks, cut to the basket, just keep moving and stay ready and when the ball goes up, go after that thing like your life depends on it.
Many young players have a tendency to overthink things when they get to college ball, they have to absorb a lot of new info from both academics and athletics. A few make it look easy the majority do not.
I have always thought you have to play instinctually(without a lot of conscious thought) to play really well, and for some this takes time. I think this is Bennys main problem.

He always looked like Joe Namath moving on the court. Going to m2m has to mean move movement and pounding on his legs.

Yep, in high school, even at IMG, he was the man. He could just play. But, now he thinks way too much. He will get there in time.

Yeah if he's declined with rebounding and defense then perhaps it's not a loss. We have plenty of scoring but desperately need guys who can defend while not being a liability on the offensive end.

Why is being a liability on the offensive end an issue if the rest of the team on the floor can score?

We made a F4 with KEITA playing a bunch of mins. Won a championship with Jeremy.
