If AW cleared everything with SU Compliance, as he has said, then why was Syracuse scared?

What part of this are you continuing to struggle with? Here’s the timeline:

1) AW clears things with SU
2) NCAA specifically calls out what he is doing as a no-no
3). SU tells him they need to course correct, what he was doing was not OK
4). AW apparently doesn’t like this and says “but you said it was OK!”, takes his money and leaves.

How does that mean AW is in the right? Because it really looks like he’s a disaster waiting to happen and Syracuse should honestly want that ticking time bomb as far away as possible.

The only possible argument is he didn’t hear that from the NCAA himself - but again, if he expects that call he’ll be waiting a long, long time. Syracuse is a member of the NCAA - that is who they will contact. They are not generally going to contact boosters. If hearing the NCAA was unhappy from Kent and not the NCAA is his hangup - good riddance.

Bottom line is, AW was willing to adhere to whatever rules he was presented with. Other donors didn’t like how Adam did things. They voiced this to Kent. Kent never spoke to Adam. Kent could have been a mediator. Instead, he just cut AW off.

Btw, I struggle with nothing. I’m not an idiot, nor do I presume you to be. So be civil.

I don’t know the guy from Adam, but AW sounds like the kind of guy who believes any attention, even negative attention, is good attention.

And any attorneys that he apparently hired would have had a fiduciary duty to him (the client) and not the university. Keeping AW from being sued (successfully) and keeping SU away from NCAA sanctions are not mutually exclusive.

Syracuse tells a different story
I’ve only heard one side. And, I do believe he’s telling the truth as he sees it. I do believe there was a chance to make it work, but that didn’t happen. That’s all that really matters.

Maybe it was more than just having Weitsman on a PowerPoint slide. Or, maybe the administration thought it was. And as Horn88 posted later -- the worry was about strike 3.
And according to the NYS law the the Governor signed their is nothing the NCAA can due about NLI. They also according to the law are not even allowed to start an investigation about any actions the school takes regarding NLI.
You can go online and look all the things in the NYS law.
Other states have done the same thing. The NCAA is pretty much out of the enforcement business for NLI.

Was that the law in NYS in March 2023? [I assume you meant NIL, not NLI, which usually refers to a national letter of intent.]

And according to the NYS law the NCAA has no legal basis for any actions on NIL in NYS.
Go read the law, it's in black and white.
The problem seems to be with the Chancellor, maybe it's time for him to resign, academics haven't gotten better under him, and Athletes have also gone down.

It was signed in June 2023 by the Governor, but obviously the University knew it was in the works, since they pushed it.

Entertaining few pages of reading about Weitsman. Nobody should bemoan funding or oil money or Phil knight when Syracuse quite simply ran their program loving billionaire off the reservation.

Do people really not care because he 'used' Syracuse and is self serving? Syracuse would be using him right back for his money. This is mutually beneficial usage.

It's such a Syracuse thing though. I'm sure Syracuse didn't like the attention of things like Choppa cause it's always about optics for SU. The landscape has changed over the past two years though and nothing he was doing is against the rules. Certainly not now.
Thank you. I find it a joke that the same people on this board that complain about Adam supported Jim through two sanctions. Yes, Adam is a self-promoter. Who cares. He went out of his way to support the teams and draw attention to SU and yes to himself. I know what he has done for others in my community and i think he is great. I dont know him but i appreciate what he does. There are a lot of celebrities that help others while promoting themselves. It doesnt matter. What matters is the end result as long as it's within the rules which it was with Adam.
Oh, and the same crowd that was ok with JB and the sanctions might want to remember that Jim and Adam are extremely close. Very good friends. I blame this one on Kent who has a massive HO against Jim. Wish we could Adam back.

100% percent. Ever since Jim stuck it up his arse by pulling the Hop coupe Kent has been against JB.

Adam Weitsman has people monitoring his social media, I'm sure "Adam" will drop by the thread soon enough.
45 minutes later ... good prediction on my part.

Isn’t most places the donors help fund named after them? Melo Center, John Lally athletics complex. So they all get recognition.
It’s funny people hate on AW for wanting his recognition as well. If he is willing to fund our NIL and only wants his name in the press that’s an easy trade off.

Think about a Fran and AW connection. We would be recruiting like Bama.
Great point.

Let me add to your timeline some possible additions:

2) NCAA specifically calls out what he is doing as a no-no
2a) Maybe the NCAA contacts the University and says they are looking into it and starts, or says it "might" start, an investigation
2b) Maybe the University Administration is concerned about yet another rules violation investigation by the NCAA (what would be the 3rd(?) under JB).

Doesn’t a timeline have dates? And, I’m pretty sure there are no “maybes “.

Idk, can you name an attention seeking NIL donor from Alabama, Duke, Tennessee, Iowa State, Auburn? Doesnt seem like they need to deal with it on the basketball side

If I followed them as religiously as I follow Syracuse I'm sure I would know who their attention seeking donors are, but I could care less. Lots of people like attention, just look at facebook. Anyone who is putting their name on a building is seeking attention. Who cares. I doubt any random fan at Kentucky or Tennessee has heard of Adam Weitsman. We all know TBoone Pickens and Phil Knight.

I hate that we are always playing catch up to the Florida States of the world. I'm envious when I hear an SMU booster talk about a "hitter's room" where a collection of oil money billionaires buy their way into the ACC. I loved that Adam was supporting our programs and didn't really care if he got some pub for doing so, but everybody needs to be very clear about one thing. If the NCAA drops the hammer, it doesn't get dropped on Adam, it gets dropped on the University and the athletic department. We know how the NCAA operates, so Kent and Wildhack had an obligation to reel things in.

If Kent and Wildhack had an obligation to Syracuse to reel things in then why didn't they ever reel in their head coach who put this University through not 1 but 2 sanctions? I am not advocating for Adam or the way he goes about his business or if Syracuse ever does business with him again but that can't be a reason when you keep a head coach employed who went through 2 sanctions and had wins removed and still hasn't given them back.

Go read the state law the NCAA is told in the law they have no authority in NYS. The law also states that if they start any type of investigation about how a university applies NIL in NYS they will be in court.
Also unless there is a Federal law set forth which will never happen, because too many states have similar laws. The case can't be tried in a federal court, it must be tried in state court.
Guess who wins and damages would probably wipe the NCAA completely out of money, and out business.

The speed part makes no sense. If there was $1m pledged to a collective, the funds are there. What does approval have to do with it?

You did your best to contribute, but when it wasn't your name attached you couldn't contribute? That makes no sense to me.

HS booster clubs are bad enough. I can only imagine how bad/slow and the amount of red tape there is with something run by a Syracuse collective.

I’ll say once again that I think hiring Autry was the only way to get JB out in a relatively peaceful way, as well as appeasing the boosters and alumni that had become as pro-Boeheim as they were pro-SU.

My feeling has always been that if we went internal, and that internal hire flopped, then the AD would be able to look broadly with his replacement. Since it would have been proven that the Boeheim tree didn’t bear fruit.

I have no illusions that Autry won’t get a third year. He will. But after that, should next year result in no tourney yet again, then we can move on and look externally.

Doing that 2 years ago would have reigned down a sh!!tstorm of epic proportions from said boosters and alumni. And if that outside hire flopped then we’d be in a perpetual cycle of hiring JB guys for several cycles, IMHO.
We've seen this other places.
Legends stay too long, the guy who follows the guy stinks, and the guy who follows the guy who follows the guy makes them good. it's the path of least resistance
