ESPN Cut List..

TNT seems to be doing just fine with the NBA. It's the second most watched sport in America. Now wonder you don't know anything about the Draft if you think the product stinks.

What? I don't know anything about ghe draft? Actually my # was wrong. In the latest Wildhack article, espn paid 2.6 per for the NBA, and 1.9 for the NFL. so, you tell me if relatively speaking thats a great deal for rights. Who knows what TNT pays but its far less than that obscene #. Tnt does the NBA and part of the baseball playoffs. That's all. The 4 letter tried to ungulf every sport and own it all and it caught up in a big way. And yes, the NBA regular season is a joke if you are older than 30 you should get it.

The NBA number was through 2026 for 2.6 Bil. The NFL number was through 2021, 5 less years.

im just waiting for when the cable channels I want...ALL OF THEM...actually ends up as a cheaper option than what all you snowflakes will be paying for with your ala cart cord cutting nonsense.
I'm with you. I'm a channel surfer that finds things on channels that I wouldn't pick if I bought ala cart. Probably would've never found impractical jokers.

I pay $25 per month for Sling TV. If "all the channels" fall that low, we'll all be back on cable packages.

The benefit of sling and playstation vue and all of the new streaming packages is choice. Choice benefits everyone.

Except maybe those 100 ESPN employees :)

It seems to me that ESPN has made the classic cost cutting mistake that most companies do. Cut the lowest hanging (cheapest) labor (i.e. The people doing all the work) and keep the overpaid execs.

You don't think Jayson Stark and Ed Werder were making some cash? They cut 45-50 people that are arguably name brands.

Nope, the article said, per year with those numbers.
Actually, you are correct.

Did some digging and ESPN only has Monday Night Football and one Wild Card Game each year for their $1.9 Billion. Total NFL Revenue from TV Rights is over $7 Billion per year.

How much do the NFL and TV partners make a year?

The $2.6 Billion reported in that article paid by ESPN is inaccurate. BOTH Turner and ESPN together paid $2.6 Billion per year each eating about 50% of the contract. So ABC/ESPN's stake in that is about $1.3 Bil per year according to every article I read. I don't think that is overpaying for the NBA at all, especially considering how much live content per year that is. That $1.3 Bil is also split between ABC Division and ESPN (Both Disney of course) so they aren't footing the entire bill.

McNabb's stock seems to be rising at ESPN. I've seen him all over the place lately and he's co-hosting First Take with SAS today.

He doesn't have a contract so they can use him on a per appearance basis and save money. While having a big name.

I've never seen him do TV, but if his TV work is as bad as his Twitter game...yeesh.

I was surprised how awkward he was on Fox sports whatever, but he has been growing and developing into his comfort zone and improving.

LOL. I am 32 and have been watching the NBA since the 90's/early oughts. The skill is ten times better than then and the product is better. The Bulls/Jazz, Knicks/Rockets, and Pistons/Spurs were awful finals on the eyes. It was all ISO ball with constant defensive hand checking.

I like PTI for that reason - Kornheiser and Wilbon are knowledegable but also admit what they don't know, and they don't exaggerate their friendships and connections to professional athletes like SAS does constantly. PTI guys agree on some topics, that how you know it's not completely made up. SAS and Skip ALWAYS took opposite sides, that's how I knew it was scripted. PTI is two guys giving their opinions whether they agree or disagree, SAS and Skip is the "Real Word" sports edition.

PTI is fantastic. It's been on a long time but both Tony and Wilbon are very good together, and very intelligent.

So where should I go for sports radio? I've listened to the espn line up for years, and it's been getting worse and worse.

I get in for the last hour of Lebatard, most days I'm good with him. The segmants with the constant screaming, or random buzzing noise for two minutes at 8am are a little much.
Love Russillo, miss SVP, thought Kannell was good.
Love me some Bomani. (I realize most of you don't and that's cool, you can keep your "worst post in the history of the board" comments to yourself tho, because that's just idiotic)

NBC Sports? CBS sports? Any good local talk? What do you knuckleheads listen to?

Disclaimer- I'm sure I spelled some names wrong. Didn't care enough to google.

On xm I listen to Chris Childers and rick niehizel sp. Also Dan Patrick sometimes and mark packer. I don't mind Bomani and I have always like svp and Russillo and now Danny Erie Kannell

You nailed it, taking away hand checking, and not calling carries, or travels has blown up offense and offense = ratings. Problem is the talent pool is lopsided, the east has been horrible for 10 years. No natural rivalries like the 80's and 90's. I agree the game is more watchable these days instead of those 78-76 knick/heat games of the 90's. I agree. Then again, the reg season is a bore with 1/2 the teams making the playoffs and teams not caring about seeding and playing hard down the stretch.

They are what everyone tried to duplicate with numbskulls like skip Bayless and failed miserably

Yup. I'm pretty much all Sirius/XM these days. College Sports Ch. 84 is great. Childers, Neuheisel, Mark Packer, Spatola, etc. Good stuff.

Not a fan of Spatola, but I will listen to him. I miss Jack Arute. Wonder what happened to him.

Good question. Spatola I like because he actually knows hoops. He has broadcast games before as a color guy and was a former Duke asst. coach and Director of Basketball Operations there. He knows what's going on.

That's a good channel if you like hearing about SEC football 75% of the time. Or maybe I just tune in at the wrong times? :noidea:
