2016 Top 25 G Tyus Battle Commits to Syracuse

Michigan basketball had a far worse scandal that Syracuse could ever dream of being involved in. Maybe the second worse of all time, behind UNC's.

Are you referring to the new UNC scandal?

"UNC Put On One-Year Accreditation Probation Over Academic Fraud Scandal"

"RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- An accreditation agency important to colleges receiving federal funds put the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on probation Thursday for a year over its academic fraud scandal."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/06/11/unc-accreditation-probation_n_7564842.html

"UNC has been plagued by scandals for many years. The first looks into possible academic misconduct at UNC began in 2010, when UNC and the NCAA began an investigation into improper benefits given to athletes.

Currently, formal federal prosecutor Kenneth Wainstein is undergoing an outside review of academic irregularities at UNC. The NCAA reopened their investigation into possible irregularities this summer."

lets see who gets this...

MCW and Waiters didn't stick around long. I am not sure if Battle is a Group 1 prospect or not. You say no. Here is an interesting analysis of the odds; depends where you classify him.

well... i didnt say "no"

I said he was dropping in the rankings and its not all that rare for 5 stars to stay more than 1 year.

FYI there were 14 1 and doners last year but I'm going to toss in Emanual Mudiay for you to make it 15.

Cliff Alexander Kansas Freshman 5 star
Devin Booker Kentucky Freshman 4 star
Stanley Johnson Arizona Freshman 5 star
Tyus Jones Duke Freshman 5 star
Kevon Looney UCLA Freshman 5 star
Trey Lyles Kentucky Freshman 5 star
Chris McCullough Syracuse Freshman 5 star
Jahlil Okafor Duke Freshman 5 star
Kelly Oubre Jr. Kansas Freshman 5 star
D'Angelo Russell Ohio State Freshman 5 star
Karl-Anthony Towns Kentucky Freshman 5 star
Myles Turner Texas Freshman 5 star
Rashad Vaughn UNLV Freshman 5 star
Justise Winslow 5 star
Mudiay 5 star

so 14 out of 24 5 stars were 1 and done. I wouldn't exactly call 10 of 24 staying a "rare" occurrence. But maybe something got lost in perception with our opinions.

dion was definitely a 5 star who dropped to a 4 star.

I am pretty sure MCW hit 5 star before dropping back to 4 star.

ESPN has Tyus ranked 27 - which is 4 star territory (espn is restricted at work - do they still do stars? i am saying he is 4 star base purely on rivals and scout usually cap 5 stars at 20 or 25)

All I can tell you is how the recruiting websites (Scouts and Rivals') have them classified. Both MCW and Dion were 4 stars on both services. And Battle's a 5-star on S c o u t (20):
http://www.. . . . . . . . . /college/syracuse/topic/players?type=players&start=0&category=Basketball Recruiting&classYear=2016&team=Syracuse&minimumInterest=Low

5 star on Rivals (21):
http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/rankings/rank-3375/0

I don't think the history of the recruiting services' star ratings is searchable ... so I can't go back and look to see whether they moved or not. But I don't think MCW was ever a 5 (he was not highly recruited). The only "name" schools to offer him were SU and ND.

I understand that. you are seeing the final rankings with Dion and MCW FYI.

Yes, see my post above yours. FWIW, I'm not trying to be critical, just trying to check and get things right on here.

IIt's Christmas at Syrac- oh wait, wrong pun.

The irony of them calling us cheaters is that their 1992 and 1993 Final Four banners are currently rolled up in a storage room somewhere.

Ha...they're still ticked off that we (those glorious SU fans) walked straight into Crisler Arena and stole their beloved "Go Blue" banner prior to getting spanked by McNabb & co. in the 'Big House'. Still, imo, the best sports related story in the history of these boards! :)

Hah...Steve Neikam even noted "message boards" today...

Nice list. So last year 60% were gone in a year. I expect most of the rest in 2 years. The number of 5*s who stick around for 4 years like Christmas is very small. That is what I mean by rare.

You are correct. The recruiting services update their lists regularly, but their prior lists are not recorded. Because of my interest in ratings, I maintain my own record.

MCW was rated 4*s by Scout and 5*s by Rivals and ESPN in 2012-13.
Dion was rated 5* by Scout but dropped to 4*s in 2011-12. He was always rated 4*s by Rivals and ESPN.
