Let's all give Red at least a year or two. If we can't do that then maybe SU Hoops isn't worth the time to follow.

I guess no one then. 12 dead guys should get a few.
I know you are having fun with it, which is fine, but it really is a valid concern. Rebounding was a huge weakness last year and our best rebounder took a walk down the Country Road.

Maybe Red is capable of creating a better scheme that won’t put us at a rebounding disadvantage, but right now it looks like we have a glaring weakness on our roster.

I think Jesse's rebounding may turn out to be a matter of being the only guy who could more than being elite at it.

Everything will be different playing mtm and playing faster. That favors rebounding at all positions including wings and guards rebounding well. The key is Jesse's replacement being capable here. Not to replace him completely but to do their part.

It's going to be so much different it's hard to make a major case until we see things under Red including the final roster.

I think you have the answer to your questions and concerns. Williams and Bell should be better for that reason alone. I think Maliq and Hima wouldn’t be the worst duo ever. I would expect we will add one more big, but if not postseason success in college basketball is not determined by 5 men anymore.

well, no forwards ... that was the point. Maybe a G and a center, but the center market is overpriced and pretty blah.

Need a big.. more than a center. So technically that can be a forward who can play the 5... if we play 3 guards then we need the extra guard more than another forward...

He didn't rebound in HS... they play a zone there?
He wasn’t really required to rebound. I am not saying we will be transform into Dennis Rodman but rewatch the games after he was benched. Much more aggressive. He will get 4-6 I truly believe that.

So here's the thing, is it a valid enough concern that a HC and his assistant coaches would be aware of it? My guess would be that Red is more aware than all of us as to team deficiencies and critical needs. So let's maybe give him a chance to build things and see what happens. I agree we need to find glass cleaners, I trust Red knows that and is looking to resolve the problem.

I think it’s fair to assume he has an idea of how he wants to play and how each player he has fits into that ideal. It may be that how he envisions us playing will lead to better rebounding.

Are you kidding me

Local guy and not a bad player. Watched him play a few games for Bryant beyond ours and to me he plays too out of control and his numbers are helped a great deal by DeGrassos style of play. I know some may disagree but I think he would underwhelm at this level.

Look at the places he is visiting...its telling

I don’t think we need another guard, even with Judah potentially staying in the draft. Bell, Taylor are basically shooting guards. Q is your backup PG. Unless the staff thinks Peter Carey is going to have a breakout year, we’re only rolling with Benny and Brown at forward. Adding another forward gives you some insurance if you can’t land a solid center.

It seems that Red is building a three guard offense and going to aggressive m2m defense. I’m all for it, but I’d still love to see some beef down low.
We have little idea what Red will do, so most of this is guessing. Here is another guess:

Based on what Red has said, we will play multiple defenses to suit the talent on the roster. This does not rule out playing zone at times. The "3 guard offense" has never been mentioned specifically by Red (I think). I would tend to think he would like to play an aggressive, pressure man defense with players that are capable of defending multiple positions. This could get players like Judah and JJ and Chance on the floor at the same time, but not primarily with the intent of a 3 guard offense. The intent would be defensive pressure.

If that is the case, swing players like Chance, Bell, Q, and Taylor will see their time as "forwards" in a positionless offense, along with Benny and Mal.

I just don't see Q being the back up PG, unless that is the only option. His skill set is much better suited as a "3" or point forward type.

These might be some of the reasons why Red is targeting another guard. He will need a PG even if Judah comes back.

Rebounding has been a glaring weakness for many seasons. Gotta hope we cause more turnovers and shoot a higher percentage to conmpensate.

Agreed on everything except that Quadir isn't suited to play PG. I think he'll take a huge leap, and will demonstrate great playmaking, vision, passing, craftiness etc and he'll be awesome on the drive and kick, and will add really good finishing at the rim too so the defender won't just think he's passing every time he drives. On m2m defense he can match up with whoever is appropriate, he's good in the press, and he'd be great at the top of the zone for the instances where Red will play zone, which will happen if he has the personnel.

With that said, I would gladly take a great transfer pg this year if Judah doesn't come back and start Chance at the 3, but I wouldn't sleep on Q as backup pg this year and starting as an upperclassman.

I agree so far it looks like a weak rebounding team. We need to be able to rebound better than last year. Last year's team was an average of -1.4. I thought it would have been worse, although that includes playing undersized mid-majors in the non-con. The change in scheme will automatically help. Boxing out opponents in m2m instead of rebounding zones should be good for taking a handful of rebounds out of the opponent's column and putting it in our column. We do need to replace Jesse's rebounds, but I expect just about any center will naturally get at least a large chunk of his 10 per game. And I think our forwards step it up with at least one more rebound per game. It certainly won't be our strength, but it will probably end up being serviceable. However, this team would really elevate its potential if Red gets a dominant center and a stud forward from the portal.

Hmm - WVU recruiting FSU’s center portal entry 7’4” McLeod supposedly to sit behind Edwards.??
