2024 bowl projections thread

If Gator is more prestigious I presume that is specific to this year? Past matchups show the Holiday has had more ranked matchups. Seems the pac 12 tie in this year is really what was the killer given there were a total of 2 choices and one wasn’t bowl eligible.
This is absolutely correct. Without the Pac 12 tie-in Syracuse could’ve played a team like USC or Colorado, which would’ve provided a great showcase for Kyle and a sold out snapdragon stadium. Washington State won’t bring many fans and I’m afraid neither will Syracuse. This is a massive missed opportunity for Syracuse football.

There’s rarely ever any beach time in San Diego. Never gets too cold but really never gets too warm. I think the weather in December is probably better than June. Just a weird micro-climate
Forget the beach, make sure you go to Balboa Park.

McCord said he and a bunch of the starters were gonna decide to play or not together based on where we wound up... Gator bowl v. say Bama and they play...

Not now I'd guess.

There is no upside to this bowl... More money than Gator but that goes str8 to Charlotte anyways... Practice for our 2nd string players but we still have to win to not lose recruiting edge. It's very possible we lose playing the b/c squad in friday primetime on national TV in a sparse stadium.

Hopefully Wazzu plays their backups as well.

I saw he said he would decide. I didn’t see where he said “a bunch of starters” . I’m fine with this bowl , always saw it as a good bowl game. Players are getting a nice mild locale .

These are not official 2024/2025 numbers, but -

It looks like the payout for the Holiday Bowl is about $6.5M.
For the Gator Bowl, it's about $5.35M.
For the Mayo Bowl, it's about $4.8M.
When bowl eligible nobody ever wants the Pinstripe bowl but they pay the most out of all the mid-tier bowls. This matters little, or when you want to make an arguement.

I don't have a problem with this bowl per se... I have a problem with Dook getting the Gator over us and us getting the opponent no one wanted... It was kinda a double screw job... I am not surprised, however. We are who we are in the ACC.

Definitely no beach time but after living here for over 20 years it’s great. There are so many activities during the holidays for those who make it out here. Here’s just an example of one I’ll be doing the day before the game.
We were staying in Carlsbad but spent our time from there to SD. Tons of things to do, beautiful coastline, Torrey Pines, Sea World , Great Restaurants, SD Zoo, if your bringing kids Lego Land, We loved our week there ! I actually played “ The Crossings in Carlsbad” … nice course!

I wouldn't knock fans for being disappointed. Right now, hard core fans I know think A LOT of SU football. Nothing wrong with that. It comes from confidence and belief in what's happening on the Hill. People just want a bowl game to match that.

I wouldn't concede that we would lose to an SEC team. If we are, we should be outraged that Alabama didn't get in over a lowly ACC team. I have seen us beat LSU, Ga, and tie Auburn in bowl games.
I would (not absolutely, but likely). We don’t have the depth and that shows up quickly when the opt outs hit.

When was the last time we beat any of the teams in your post? It’s unusual to be stricken by both recency bias and “remember when” in the same thought.

The bridge over to. Coronado Island scares the crap out of me. The island is fantastic.

Eh it’s clearly the third best out of the realistic options

Gator

Pop Tarts

Holiday

THANK YOU.

It’s not so much the Holiday Bowl -
although that really is 3/3 of the potential bowls we could’ve gone to-

It’s also being paired with a no-name, bleh homeless opponent who beat nobody and has zero buzz to playing them.

Fla is a recruiting hotbed, we have players from there that could bring boatloads of family & friends, and there are a zillion cheap direct flights.

And - we’d be playing a name opponent with a number next to their name.

San Diego is lovely.
But we have nearly zero alumni there, zero recruiting, and it’s insanely expensive to fly and stay there.

We. Got. FFF’d.
Period, full stop.

Hell - TexanMark ain’t going to the game.
He goes to EVERY game.

Shouldn't have to worry about McCord getting hurt in this game, pretty sure he won't see the field.
He shouldn’t go make us proud in the nfl. Let’s see what jakhari can do.

So did Gator select Duke over Syracuse in the end. Or Holiday selected Syracuse first before Gator.
Duke guaranteed the Gator they'd eat 20-25K tickets.

The team gets to hang out in San Diego as a reward for our a good season, be honored by a wonderful American city, and play another game, the last football game ever for many. Fans are greedy and I don't blame them, but the bowl is a party for the players, coaches, and their families. They worked hard for this and I'd like to hope we let them celebrate. We all wish we had a second try at the season and made the football tournament, but the team did well in Fran's first year with some justified hope for a general upswing in our football fortunes. I wish we had McCord and this wonderful offense for longer, but think it would be good to see what our other QB's & other players can do, especially on offense. A preview of coming attractions could be fun, if we can win. Kudos to the team for finishing the season in style. Enjoy your reward!!

I have to assume a lot of players will be getting the talk. We are probably going to have more than normal portal out. Available players might become an issue.

Now we're too good for the Holiday Bowl? Oh, ok...

I don’t think anyone is saying that. I think people are just disappointed that SU seems to get the short (dirty) end of the stick from the ACC every time. Give people a chance to express that fir a day or so, and then it will be full steam ahead again.

Didn't we already have someone portal that will still be playing in the bowl game?

Carlsbad is my town. It’s great up here but a little far from snapdragon.
