The veterans on the team, mainly first- and second-team players, are taking fewer reps, which allows coaches to spend more time working on technique. It’s also an easier toll on the players’ bodies, but not to the point where they are missing out, Shafer said.
After the veterans’ finish practice, the third and fourth teamers, including many freshmen, stay late for about 15-20 minutes. Coaches then gear the pace of the practice to the younger players, allowing them to do more teaching and help the players acclimate to Syracuse’s schemes.
"So who are the athletic freaks on this year's team?"Stephen Bailey @Stephen_Bailey1
Syracuse DC Chuck Bullough spent time working with the young DL and then Raymon alone on stances, assignments and stunts.
Rodney Williams stood out at punt return. Syracuse assistant Bobby Acosta told the group RW did a good job of getting behind the ball first.
Cole Murphy continued to take first-string field goals. He went 2/3. Backup Ryan Norton went 1/2 before the open session ended.
A skowt from the New England Patriots attended the practice. He was talking mostly with Syracuse S&C coach Will Hicks.
Quarterbacks continued to drill footwork and moving in the pocket. WRs spent time practicing releases against jams.
