Anyone else concerned

I think Marshall and the Sun Belt conference are getting a lot of heat from bailing on the Independence Bowl. So other bowls are making sure they aren’t getting played. Especially this close to the game. I saw one guy saying this will affect Marshall getting bowl invites for years because of the way they handled the withdrawal
makes sense.

You know what would make the most sense?

One portal window after spring ball.

I know, I know. People are going to have a million reasons to tell me why that doesn't work.

It doesn't matter. It makes more sense.
I'm fine with that too. Allowing transfers in-season is the height of stupidity.

So, right on brand for college sports.

Not sure if mentioned before, but from a standpoint of advertisers and and the entities that are providing the $$ for the bowl games, I’d be concerned that I’m not getting the “product” that was promised. The current landscape cannot be good for the future of bowl games.

They're only not getting the product that was promised if they don't make the money they expect to.

So we'll have to see.

And it will affect ticket sales and concession sales etc. because local football fans who may just decide to go last minute will not because obviously the product on the field is not worth the money they are asking for seats.

explain how portals after the bowl season gets these kids to play now?

For most of them school is done.

Don't forget the fans! I worked too hard pounding Labatts and screaming on 3rd downs to be anxious about this.

Indeed!!

And won’t anyone think of all the keys that got jingled?!!!

one or two portal windows AFTER bowl season, including the entire CFP, is the only thing that makes sense. the chaos that is going on with bowls right now is not fair to the bowls, advertisers, broadcasters, teams, coaches, and especially the players.
I really don't see timing being the issue, kids will just sit out if they're worried about injury etc. IMO best two options are to limit kids to one transfer without sitting a year out, or just admit NIL is money for playing a sport and allow it to be dependent on x years at an institution.

I believe the courts have ruled that both of the options you mentioned aren't legal.

So glad the aholes who did bowl matchups didn’t match up SU and Colorado in the Holiday Bowl, what a terrible matchup that would have been with both teams apparently not having opt outs. Who doesn’t want to see Colorado play their Big 12 conference mate BYU instead?
I didn't even realize BYU vs Colorado was happening - how stupid

This is going to sound insane but if WSU lost 50 players over the next week, they should still agree to play and figure out a way to make it safe for all by working something out with Syracuse. For the sake of $13M to be paid out in total to both schools, it’s critical that they figure this out. I’m serious, if I was Syracuse I would even go as far as offering them walk-on players to use if necessary. More playing time for all, makes the game safe and most importantly, both programs get paid.

We need to stop thinking of bowl games as anything more than a glorified scrimmage. Albeit a scrimmage that pays a ton of money that both programs need.

I believe our $6.5m goes to the ACC to be part of the bowl pot that then gets distributed equally. So we’d get about $400k for this bowl. I think only the CFP participants get a larger cut of their bowl payouts.

Question on that does teams that did not qualify for a bowl get a percentage also? Aka Stanfod,FSU and Wake forest.

The Holiday Bowl is now offering the first 10,000 fans to the game free tickets to SeaWorld
They always were. Problem is that most of us are gone on Saturday.

Good question. I would think so.

so you throw the 30-40 million in a bowl and everyone gets 1-2 million. Plus some money for expenses perhaps to get to the bowl.

Dont forget this

Teams also can earn success money by finishing in the top 25 of the CFP rankings and reaching a bowl game.

There is nothing else I would rather do on Dec. 27 then watch Cuse win by a gazillion points with McCord throwing for 500 yards while popping down a few Ballast Points
It happened to us last year, what's good for the goose is good for the gander, what goes around comes around and all's fair in love and war and whatever clichés I can add. Let's obliterate them.
