Better Call Saul

I think that Michael Mckean should be seriously considered for best supporting actor at the Emmys. He had so many superb moments. The best being his meltdown on the stand after Jimmy had the battery planted on him
he turned it up to 11 this year

that being said, I thought this was overall the weakest season in Gilligan's ABQ universe. I thought the writing was weak and lazy (compared to previous seasons and BB, not to the rest of what is on TV)

Really? You made your thoughts known on Mike. What's your issue with the writing in general this season?

two examples:

deus ex machina -mostly in the persona of Mike. need to fix a plot issue? give Mike an improbable new skill. blech.

internal inconsistencies; e.g. Jimmy is supposed to be near broke, scrambling for funds, but somehow he manages to score a trunkload of MBT shoes?

again, not to say it is bad, but far below Gilligan's previous standards. thinking of 5 seasons of BB & 3 of BCS; this season ranks firmly in 8th place.

also, this may or may not be due to the writing, but Mark Margolis has been a let down; not nearly as good as he was on BB

Hasn't Hector Salamanca been given more dialogue in BCS than he ever had in BB? All I remember in BB are a few flashback scenes and, of course, him as basically an invalid at the nursing home.

the stroke that he just suffered in BCS3 will render him partially paralyzed and unable to speak. Throughout BB, with the exception of 1 or 2 flashbacks, he was able to communicate only by laboriously pressing a child's bicycle bell attached to his wheelchair (and a few other brilliant options). Despite those constraints, Margolis was fantastically expressive in the role. The younger, healthier Don Hector has not been nearly as interesting. Or at all, really.

Good memory. Oh no question he was very expressive. It's all coming back to me re: the bell/wheelchair and such. I don't know. I find him fascinating in both shows. I like his short, more direct dialogue in BCS. He certainly has portrayed an intimidating and no-nonsense presence for me.

What were those skills and what plot holes was Vince patching?

People can be broke but still have money, or other means of purchasing things. But he considered himself broke because of his suspension, the loss from the tv ads, and his desire to keep the office space. The shoes were just a part of his scheme to get Irene to settle the sandpiper lawsuit, which would net him over a million. I dunno, is it lazy or ridiculous? Maybe. But imo not anymore than anything in any other season of bcs or bb

Great, great show. Jimmy is such a down to earth character.

Being out here in NM, I love it when I recognize some of the background shots.

Would love to see them incorporate some local foodie staples like green or red chile into an episode or two. Maybe they have already and I missed it.

I thought Michael McKean would be a lock to win this year's Emmy for best supporting actor . . . but he wasn't even nominated today!

Unreal he wasn't even nominated. I don't care for his character, but the acting from him was terrific this season.

He'll be missed [presumably].

Season 4 Episode 1: Great housekeeping episode that was so much more! These guys really have a gift for taking seemingly mundane moments and making them amazing television.

Watching now. Idk this show as an idea has been better than execution. It’s so boring and unmemorable. Like I couldn’t remember what last season was even about. Had to google it

Spoilers for anyone who hasn’t watched don’t read the rest.

The opening future scene gave us a lot.
I thought Saul was going to have the same electric disease as his brother but that wasn’t the case and the cabbie definitely knew who he was.

There is no doubt Gus is going to blackmail and eventually turn Ignasio over to twins eventually.

Mike is the freakin coolest character on the show. That was awesome.

I can’t decide if Saul/Jimmy is sad at what happened to his brother or if he is pissed at about it at his brother.

Should be interesting to watch what happens to Kim.

It’s definitely a slow burn. Much more so than Breaking Bad.

I love getting the backstory filled in and seeing the character development of Jimmy/Saul.

I think Saul was in shock, and then as a way to cope he’s just shutting off the caring side of himself. The way he let Howard take the blame. The way he was whistling - reminded me of Walt after the kid on the bike got killed by Todd. The same way Jesse looked at Walt after that, is how Kim was looking at Saul.

Those Cinnabon flash forwards are awesome. The guy is completely paranoid over getting caught.

The Gus stuff has the least surprise factor of the whole show because we know the most about that, but it’s still awesome to watch IMO. I’m curious if we find out the meaning of Saul’s “It wasn’t me, it was Ignacio!” in the desert to Walt and Jesse.

Good Lord, Kim! I had no idea we were waiting for that scene between her and Howard. But, we were.

Nacho put in all that work and took all those risks to get away from Tuco and then Tio Salamanca...and now he’s stuck with Gus.

Gus was so menacing in this one.

And I couldn't help but think of the similar scene from Beverly Hills Cop, where of course Jonathan Banks played one of the villains.

I would say that if not for her huge outburst at Howard about Jimmy. If she felt any of the slightest that Jimmy was slowly morphing into Saul (to us the viewers) I don't think she goes in there and shoves her foot up Howard's anus
