Chance Amie Ends up at Grambling

Clemson operated with 2 QBs because their backup transferred. Same situation.

We will be fine. Odds are that if Devito went down WITH Chance as a backup we were screwed anyways. Same situation we find ourselves in now.

Very few teams can operate at a high level with their backup regardless. It’s not just about talent, it’s also about reps (live and practice).

Ding! Amie wasn’t going to rescue us if Tommy went down. Excellent athlete but no experience, a year of 3rd team reps(at best) and issues off field does not equal savior.

And I feel sorry for Chance that he wasn't given the ability to tweet out his leaving himself.
So I’m guessing, completely off the top of my head, pierre/coley/rtb/trotter...cam jordan?

I could be very wrong. I dont see scoop leaving.
I don't see that many.

Missing the point. He was developing. In another year or so, he'd likely be ready to contribute. Now we’ll need to develop a new QB in another year and he’ll have ZERO experience if we need him to replace DeVito. That’s how bad our QB situation will be after next season. It’s why you need to keep developing QBs.

I cant really say that. With his second year and increased reps in practice he could have helped. I heard Chance was what Dungey was like his freshman year. His off the field decisions would have got in the way of that though. Im hoping the staff has a good plan in place.

Fair points. Too bad the kid had issues that makes this impossible with him

The recruiting carousel, just like the coaching carousel, is in high gear. I think we just need to wait and see where some transfers land. I still think we end up with a 2019.

A serviceable transfer would be ideal.

As the parent of three kids that have mostly completed their college years, I feel for Chance and all of the other athletes that are looking for the best place for themselves. We're all fans that have a vested interest in all things orange, but these kids are still trying to find a pathway for themselves and have many people giving them advice. I'd liked to have seen Chance in orange, but he made a tough choice, gambling on finding a better situation that will help his overall career and life. It could be that he's now more interested in Houston with the change in coaching staff. I trust that Dino will assess his options and find a solution. He seems pretty competent...

Wasnt coley our backup safety and his dad is a coach on the team?
Yes but I’m not entirely sure how stable that rotation is with Clarke healthy and Jonas healthy as well. Just a total off the top of my head. I didn’t list players based on disappoining performance. I listed them because they’re guys who’d be starting now at other p5’s. Dino’s accomplished great, talented, depth. The safety position may be our deepest position on the team next to WR

So, if there were whispers of a problem, then obviously the coaching staff is not blindsided by this development. As such, they had to be looking for options for a little while. This gives me some comfort. The idea of a mad scramble is more concerning. The next few weeks, and into the Spring/early Summer will be very interesting to say the least.

I'm struggling to sort this all out. Yes, January is attrition month. Guys like Devon Butler that have talent and haven't been able to put it all together here - look for other opportunities. I get that. But you don't normally expect players with Chance's potential - by many accounts tearing it up on the scout team - to bolt before they even get an opportunity to compete for playing time. I'm not an insider, but Chances was talked about as a future starter, backing up TD this year and possibly getting some playing time situationally (or due to injury). So this isn't the kind of transfer that's healthy or expected, at least that's how it seems. I'll stay tuned for more as this unfolds. But something tells me exogenous forces are at work here.

Non football stuff would make things more clear...

That's a critical point. Without even a PWO on the roster who runs the scout team now? If Rex moved to TE for a realistic chance to play and contribute at that position (and I truly believe that to be the case) I would hate to see him move back to QB3 just because there is no one else. Really important to have someone in place to start getting acclimated during spring ball.
