They should have known better.
Appears like the man's wife was harassed on facebook and phone calls.what did the lallys do?
We will never know.what did the lallys do?
Exactly. He's another Nevin Shapiro. From the article:
But he said he prefers the excitement of personally attracting and building a relationship with a program-changing recruit.
That's why you can't have this guy around. It's such a slippery slope.
He clearly wanted the credit, as well as the prospective future "opportunities" that a "relationship" with a program-changing recruit could provide. But he said he prefers the excitement of personally attracting and building a relationship with a program-changing recruit.
This has been brought up before, and it gives me the "ick" as the current lexicon goes these days. I said this back in May: "One thing about AW's appearance on ET and Devo's show that has bothered me was him saying that he was a mentor/wanted to mentor the players. I'm sorry but a billionaire donor should not be mentoring student athletes. That should a parent, coach or teacher. "
I caught some grief for that but I still stand by it.
You might want to seek some counseling, because you are letting personal hatred make you post some bizarre and unfounded allegations. He clearly wanted the credit, as well as the prospective future "opportunities" that a "relationship" with a program-changing recruit could provide.
But man that sentence should be studied with care after some of these "relationships" that have been playing out on the news recently. Wonder if he ever met a certain P*ff D*ddy back in the day.
No allegations at all.You might want to seek some counseling, because you are letting personal hatred make you post some bizarre and unfounded allegations.
That special list tgst dominates the news?No allegations at all.
I said I was wondering. The man liked to hang out with celebrities. He recently congratulated another famous man that's in the news for being on a certain list too.
Reading this comment in my head I was like I know exactly who is gonna respond and like clockwork. He’s Too easy to goad.He clearly wanted the credit, as well as the prospective future "opportunities" that a "relationship" with a program-changing recruit could provide.

Ehh. There’s some real grimey things he’s done to people that it’s not worth bringing this up.No allegations at all.
I said I was wondering. The man liked to hang out with celebrities. He recently congratulated another famous man that's in the news for being on a certain list too.
You're right, "allegations" was too strong. But, even the suggestion is an awful thing to put on someone. No allegations at all.

You are the company you keepYou're right, "allegations" was too strong. But, even the suggestion is an awful thing to put on someone.
The very apt idiom "the juice is not worth the squeeze" applies here. The amount Weitsman gives does not come close to justifying the attempt to accommodate his nonsense.First, I want to thank Dasher for his time, work and diligence in this matter and for informing me of the difficulties he was facing with all parties. I appreciate his honesty. He is a good man.
I am a little surprised no one has mentioned what AW did in 2004 before getting involved with Syracuse University and Syracuse Basketball. Trust is the issue here.
First, his education: In 1986, Weitsman graduated from Owego Free Academy. Weitsman majored in banking at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville.[2] In 1989, Weitsman worked at a Manhattan art gallery, Hirschl & Adler Folk, and opened the American Folk Art Gallery in Greenwich Village in 1991.[2][4] In 1995, Weitsman became vice president of Ben Weitsman & Son, a scrap processing company owned by his family before eventually purchasing it from his father.[2]
Perhaps part of the reason Syracuse University does not want any relationship with AW is because of what is underlined here. I believe someone at Syracuse University did a simple background check on AW as a part of doing any business with him, found this and an instant aura of mistrust was formed. Check kiting is for me complex. However, for those who would like to know about it, please Google Adam Weitsman and click on Wikipedia’s bio of him. There is a link here, (not sure if it works on this page), that details how it is done and has been used by individuals and corporations in the past. It is a very serious offense. If you are caught as AW was you go to jail and pay a large fine. See below:
After losing his sister to cancer in the early 1990s, Weitsman quit a career in New York City and returned to his hometown to the family scrap metal business. Here, he built up an interest in the processing side of scrap metal recycling, which led to the foundation of Upstate Shredding.[5] In 1997, Weitsman opened Upstate Shredding at the Tioga County Industrial Park in Owego.[6][4][7] Weitsman was sentenced for check kiting in 2004, paid a $1 million fine and served 8 months in prison.[8] In 2005, Weitsman acquired Upstate Shredding's sister company, Ben Weitsman & Son, Inc., after his father retired[6] and acquired an 11-acre scrapyard in Solvay, New York from Peter Matlow in December 2009.[9] Between 2012 and 2016, Weitsman acquired a scrap yard in New Castle, Pennsylvania,[7] a port facility in Albany,[6] and Empire Recycling in Watertown, New York.[10] By the end of 2016, they were collectively known as Upstate Shredding – Weitsman Recycling.[6][11] That year, Weitsman won the Platts Industry Leadership Award and the AMM Scrap Company of the Year award for the second year in a row.[12][13] He was awarded Scrap Company of the Year by American Metal Market in 2015 and 2016.[14]
Weitsman and his wife, Kim Weitsman, have invested in real estate in Skaneateles, New York.
In 2010, Kim purchased the Krebs restaurant, which was founded in 1899.[15] The restaurant re-opened in the summer of 2014.[11] Weitsman has supported local philanthropic efforts through personal funding and this restaurant.[15] In 2015, Weitsman and his wife donated the restaurant's profits to 16 regional nonprofit organizations.[16][17] In 2018, Weitsman began construction on a Mexican restaurant, Elephant and the Dove, in addition to development of a sushi bar in Owego.[18][19] The restaurant opened on April 11, 2019.[20][21] In 2021, Weitsman announced a collaboration with Rise N Shine restaurant owner, Danielle Mecuri, for a new Italian restaurant in East Syracuse.[22]
In 2021, he started Viridium LLC,[23] a cryptocurrency mining company.[24][25] As of 2022, he is a billionaire.[26]

I believe the time in jail and the fine affected him deeply. It turned him into a workaholic and his efforts in the development of the scrap business eventually into a billionaire. He and his wife use some of their money to build restaurants. The profits of two restaurants exhibit his philanthropic efforts. To me it all seems to be a way out of the guilt from his past. The money he paid for his seats and suite and the inclusion of celebrities to him means, I am good, I paid for this with my hard-earned money and donated to the non-profits. I agree with some who've said he could have given money to build at Syracuse - but also see that not being an alum has its problems for him.
It is very obvious for me to see that he, a very rich scrap metal business owner and the Lally's clash.
Egos far apart. Lally's may feel that AW is not on their level though he is in wealth above them. They do not wish to associate with a junk yard dog nor does Syracuse University. It is a real shame. So much good could come if they all could work together. And we on this board have to sit and write how we feel about this enigmatic situation. I wish they will see that they are all human beings and their actions make each other and us suffer for not accomplishing what they could by collaborating for the University and its student athletes.
I appreciate the point you make. You may be right. But I'd like to suggest that his activties with SU didn't appear to be a problem until NIL came to the fore and maybe the NCAA was nosying around as to whether his activities were all within the then rules, or what some thought were the then rules, and maybe the Chancellor just didn't want to take any chances after two prior investigations and penalties.First, I want to thank Dasher for his time, work and diligence in this matter and for informing me of the difficulties he was facing with all parties. Thanks for the great information for those who might not be as familiar with AW as others.First, I want to thank Dasher for his time, work and diligence in this matter and for informing me of the difficulties he was facing with all parties. I appreciate his honesty. He is a good man.

This 1000x. When Adam was a “friend of the program” the athletic department was about facilities, facilities, facilities. I could dig up threads here where people were bemoaning how far behind we had fallen. They had a huge campaign going!Kinda. It was before the extravagant NIL deals. But my understanding is that the vast majority of our booster whales have donated money for facilities. Hundreds of millions of dollars towards that critical need. And the article makes clear that Weitsman never donated at all for facilities. That’s where his millions could have made a real difference years ago.
He chose not to, which is 100% his right. But he did make that choice.
Jake...you can do more. He's fools gold and Lucy with the football? How about there is no i in team. Or there is no tomorrow. Could throw in our backs are to the wall. This 1000x. When Adam was a “friend of the program” the athletic department was about facilities, facilities, facilities. I could dig up threads here where people were bemoaning how far behind we had fallen. The only facility that Adam donated to, was upgrading his own private box (which, the rumor is, he thought the school should have paid for).
This guy is your savior?!?! C’mon!
He was never among the biggest donors ever - 200k/year in the world of whales, is whale shitake - why do people think he’d be making a difference in the world of NIL.
The money he donated for those seats has been replaced, and other donors have stepped up to shell out real BIG money for players.
He’s fools gold - Lucy with the football.
100% Agree. I'll round up this time. What he gave is the equivalent of $67 to someone making 100K. Divide that over 6 years and it's a little over $10 to him annual for him. This 1000x. Haha. Yeah maybe the cliches are a bit much,Jake...you can do more. He's fools gold and Lucy with the football? How about there is no i in team. Or there is no tomorrow. Could throw in our backs are to the wall.
How about thank you for your interest. We will continue to study the matter.Haha. Yeah maybe the cliches are a bit much,
I’ll give you credit for trying, but I don’t think your attempt left the chancellor an exit strategy from a pr perspective.
He certainly can’t take a meeting with such a polarizing entity that was arranged by a “fan”. And there’s really no sense engaging a fan on a subject they aren’t willing to publicly discuss.
If he had no desire to move forward with your offer, this should have been the response. How about thank you for your interest. We will continue to study the matter.
