Clean House

Fran Brown turned football around in 1 season. Red clearly not in season 2. And I don't think he will next year either. He is not head coach material at this level. Simply way over his head. Sticking with Carlos is incomprehensible.

Yep, keeping JB around so long ruined the program. Red is trying to dig us out but the job is too big for him. But, he needs time to learn and grow. First and easy task that even Stevie Wonder x Ray Charles can see is to START MOORE!
JB is long gone at this point. This Isn’t 1995 where it takes you 3 years to get your players and install a program.

I so strongly disagree. He does not have to be here. The class is very good but not elite and that is not good enough to justify wasting another year. And we have no reason to believe that it won't be wasted.
I want Red gone. But I understand from Wildhacks perspective that if you do it now, and it causes Kiyan/Sadiq to bail; it really puts him in a difficult spot - he’d have to nail the hire.

Normally I wouldn’t say that 2 incoming freshman are the reason to keep the HC, especially in this day and age - but Kiyan brings more than just his skills - Melo, etc.

If Kiyan chose USC then Red should absolutely be gone. But if he fires Red, then Kiyan bails, and the hire is unimpressive then it looks really bad on JW.

I’ve never been more confident a coach ain’t it for Cuse than I am with Red tbh. Have to keep him around one more with the class coming in though. If he doesn’t make the tourney next year, he’s outta here
No you just involve Carmelo Anthony in the next hire. It would be a good idea even without his son. It's not preposterous that say Mike Woodson leave IU for us if it was a favor to Melo and he doesn't win a title this year.

I'm not sure the class is all that great either Moore and Freeman are probably better than everyone in it. Still need to make a hire that retains that group.

Even Mike Hopkins would be an upgrade and decent emergency choice as badly as we all want a change.

to never have conducted a national search was an insane error by Wildhack. I give him a pass since he hit on Fran, but how does an assistant who oversaw the collapse of the program get promoted to the head role with no head coaching experience?

This same experiment failed at Louisville and Michigan. They both went external this time around and got it right. It’s not hard to find an up and coming coach at the mid major level

Start JJ Moore and Anthony together. College game has changed and we aren’t playing 2-3. Use White Petar and a portal center at big spots. Have a freakin plan. Soft as man to man ain’t a plan. Should be an athletic team next year. Would love to show a multitude of looks on defense. Should have multiple natural scorers. Let’s go 5 out and push tempo. You have to establish an identify if you’re Autry. What are Red’s Orange about?

I think you pull the plug now and make a splash hire . Fran brown has proven you can bring blue chip elite talent to su from pure hard work, sound coaching and strong relationships. Add the prestige our basketball program has had . Red has made the major mistake of mismanaging his roster , he has completely whiffed on all major roster decisions. I could ride with this if boeheim had run into the sunset on a high note. The problem is our program is at a critical impass. We cannot accept minor goals. This program should strive for a conference and national championship, noooo wait your, head coach should demand that poise in all of his players. I don’t see it in this team. We need a culture change, we need to raise the bar.

You ain’t changing anything this year. This team is what it is. (BAD)

The only question is what does JW do at the end of this year. I’m not so sure Red’s job is saved by his recruiting class if he goes 10-24, which is a real possibility
If 10. And don't make the ACC tournament.

Whomever the coach is next year, we need to do a whole lot better in the transfer portal.

Yes it would be nice to get some frosh who hopefully stick along for term. But frosh are not changing your program in their first year.
To do better in the portal you need a coach who players want to play for. Like Fran.

Did Red even shake Barnes’ hand?
He may have gone back to do that. But why did he go over and talk to Moore instead? Was he not happy that Moore just held the ball with seconds to go?

The fact that they went with him with zero head coach experience is wild. He wasn't even the head coach when he coached a HS team.

I'm glad it worked out so far with Fran but he brought a whole new culture and fire. Turned over everything for a perennial loser.

Cuse basketball was a power house. A household name.

Yeah I just get the feeling we’re going through the motions. Not coaching and playing with heart.

In CFB, when a team sucks recruits usually bolt for the exits b/c they sense the future is bleak and opposing teams, and then the coach typically gets canned. (Unless the buyout is huge like FSU, USC, etc…).
Why, in CBB, do we hesitate to sack a coach out of fear that a recruit(s) will leave?
Wouldn’t a player want the best coach possible in what could be their only year in college?

Honestly this experiment is not working. Need someone outside the Cuse family to come in and change the culture that has developed.

We lack ability, want to, overall athleticism and TERRIBLE coaching.

Carlos is not a major D1 pg…he’s just not. Good passer and probably a leader, but lacks any ability to defend and can’t score.

Lampkin great passer and distributor but his athleticism is going to be exposed. His lower back injury is limiting him. He can’t defend any big guys.

Not starting Choppa is flat out fireable offense.

Benching Freeman for his bump. Kid showing some fight and obviously knew he messed up. You dont bench the kid.

Chris bell has regressed. Used to be a 3 point specialist and now has zero confidence.

Like honestly we need change.
You ever read what you wrote. In a game where the coach is patching a gigantic whole where they just lost their number 1 scorer the day before, you are gripping that he didn’t start his number 1 scorer off the bench.

Sit down and hope that other players come to play along with Moore and Freeman.

I thought before season started this was an NCAA tournament team, boy was I wrong, we might be the worst team in the ACC and if we lose to Georgetown who is horrible next week I say fire him the second the season is over. We not only look inept, but most 2of the team looks like they are playing at 70 percent effort. That’s a recipe for continued a$$ kickings.

What the hell are we doing at PG? It's SO DAMN FRUSTRATING. The dude is incredibly limited on offense, plays poor defense, and doesn't make plays as a freaking POINT GUARD. He dribbles around like he's going to make a play and then just dishes off to someone on the perimeter and then asks for the ball back so he can do it again. So frustrated after tonight. Maybe the most in a few years.

Haven’t posted here in a long time. I try my hardest as a fan to not overreact to things and to be patient. However, I think I can no longer be patient with Red. I’m sorry but I need to see SOMETHING to feel like he as a coach and this program are trending in the right direction. Outside of recruiting, there’s barely anything I think he does… well. Theres been good moments but only a few. Like this is all a fault of coaching to me:
  • Constantly start games slow and get in a hole
  • Almost always playing down to the level of inferior opponents
  • Rarely look in the same weight class of basketball as top 25 teams
  • 0 and i mean 0 identity on either end. Arguably my biggest concern, this team looks like they just go out and play pickup out there.
  • Seriously this team couldnt defend high schoolers. They genuinely look clueless, its maddening and somehow worse this year than last.
  • Bad energy always, other teams simply play harder for longer
  • Barely run any offensive sets, minimal movement
  • Poor roster construction. Sure we can blame some on NIL but someone has to take blame for banking on Naheem at C last year and JC at pg this year and sorry but thats red
  • Awful out of bounds plays
  • Dont see much improvement in players themselves. More guys have regressed or not improved than vice versa
  • AWFUL AND ARBITRARY rotations that seemingly have no rhyme or reason. It’s like Red is coaching pre-season exhibitions still.
  • These dont feel like legit teams. Theres no chemistry. They look like guys who dont like eachother or want to even play together.

I want to believe in Red and getting this program back on track. I know its year 2 and i know he’ll get a year 3 regardless. But i need a reason, need to see something to feel like we can get this program back on track. Someone please tell me why i’m wrong and convince me otherwise. I can be sold pretty easily but i’m just not seeing the light at the end of this tunnel. I am desparate to have syracuse be good again, its one of my few loves. Go cuse.

Wouldn’t a players highly famous and respected former nba father also want his kid to be coached by the best possible coach. I don’t see how the melo family can be happy about what is transpiring. If anything this is a perfect time for him to step up and start putting some feelers out to those he knows that would possibly consider su as a new destination.
